I noticed this cow thing as bride price is common across east and south Africa yall share almost the same culture.
I heard in Uganda and Tanzania they have this beer made from bananas that theu give as part of the negotations
Yes, in the Gusii community in Kenya, the banana beer is very important. Also among the Teso in both Kenya and Uganda, although their traditional beer is millet and sorghum based. I also noticed a beer component amongst the Nyakyusa of Tanzania.
Cows are a huge part of life amogst EA peoples, alot of things hang around how many cows you own. personally, i believe in the dairy type, money everyday guaranteed!

Interesting. I love these insights I try to see similarities between EA peeps and us in the west. I know our Hausa language and the swahili is very similar like the numbers in hausa is the same over there. Then the fulanis too are cattle people though their cattle is not as big as yours over there..

Correct, the killing of a lion was a rite of passage in the maasai community, it's largely gone into hibernation, but some folks tells me it still happens . As for za oza room let @ZarZar decide for herself.

Umqombothi is made in advance by the girl's family. All you have to do is bring your A-game & good spirits of course. Lol, Xhosa love to fight, yes, but not on occasions like that. We keep it peaceful smiley

Hausa is a Chadic language, Swahili is a bantu language. Poles apart. The similarities arise because of Arabic adoptions,e.g waziri means minister. . I have heard Hausa spoken, can't understand a thing, have heard Zulu /Xhosa /Shona/Bemba etc being spoken,i can get the gist.
