Are you now saying that speaking both your language and English will stop your children from being successful in life. Some people speak 4 or more languages fluently and are very successful internationally. What is important is not to throw your culture away.

We are saying the same thing. If my children speak 10 languages fine. All I want is for these 10 languages to put food on the table. I don't want them to waste valuable time learning a language that its only benefit is to gossip with their mother when a visitor is in the house.

I'll take you serious when you leave mud house in oshogbo and spend one week in an Igbo city. Let's see if you won't shout 'Why everybody just dey speak Ibo for here'.

Even some your brothers who are fashion designers and trado-medical practitioners from the deepest part kwara, Oyo and Osun don dey speak Igbo pass me sef. cheesy

As for the mud house,, though I don't lived in osogbo,,,
What makes some of your igbo states better than some of Yoruba states is
Money from petroleum
and Money ritual...

as for language...
it's hardly you find Yoruba speaking igbo...
it's vice versa,,, even some igbos speak Yoruba better than some Yoruba

Most yoruba muslims dump yoruba names for Arabic names like monsurudeen, Fatai, Lateef.

Precisely

So you really believe money ritual can make a state develop? with the way you yorubas hunt human heads with reckless abandon on per second billing, shouldn't you be more developed than America and Britain since money rituals 'develop cities'? cheesy

Afonjas daft no be small. cheesy

She has every right to decide what language she wants to train her children with and i dont see how that makes her stupid. Languages have come and gone. Culture generally changes with time.
you must be an idiot for saying this.

You're a foolish Afonja. I'm Igbo and i'm definitely proud of my native name.
Don't generalize that assertion to a particular tribe. Even afonjas are ashamed of their "Olu, Olu" names!

The person you quoted may be generalising but you are certainly doing the same. I'm one of those whose name begin with Olu and I wouldn't trade that name for anything. As a matter of fact, I take offence when anyone calls me by my religion-inspired name.

...Black people have an inate inferiority complex to the White-man and yorubas are not exempted..,Stop making it an Igbo thing only..If i had time,i would have given you countless evidences to proove my assertions...
...Igbos bear first names as English names, while Yorubas bear last names as English names e.g..Mobolaji Johnson,Tunji Braithwaithe,Yemi Black,Gani Adams,Funsho Willians e.t.c.

...Black people Worldwide have to emancipate themselves from mental shackles to the White-man....Its a herculean task, but achievable.
most Igbos born from 80s till date have Igbo first name. some have started going for an all Igbo names.

He is very correct.Go 2 Lagos,u go see am tire.
I was a victim of that play 2 where my 1st name is English and stressed from my nursery school,my mum stressed DAT.I followed DAT up even 2 d univ.
Co-incidentally,my parents were born in Lagos,my dad,Ebutte-Metta and my mum Alapere, hence they murder Yoruba just like us.
It was due to advise from my dad's best friend that he had to send his sons to school in d East just to learn Igbo culture, those 5 years shaped our lives.
I am running my PG in UI,I speak better Igbo,am happy about it,and made sure my native name becomes my 1st name now.
If any language will go extinct 1st,it is Igbo and then maybe Urhobo(from what I heard from folks there).

PS:We all wrote Yoruba in our SSCE
he said he came back from Igboland not lagos. read well.

Which Yoruba people have English last names? Just because you know a few of them (mostly Lagosians) you now want to make it look like it is common in Yorubaland. Go to Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo and you hardly see anyone with an English surname. Even in Lagos and Ogun states, it is less than 1%. Yoruba Surnames, are original family/ancestral names.
you want us to come to youruba hinterland but want to judge Igbos with lagos. I pity Igbos in this thread who cant see through your ulterior motives.

In igbo films,,, they speak
98% English & 2% igbo

in Yoruba films
98% Yoruba & 2% English

in Hausa films
100% Hausa.....

judge with these accessions
educated hausas add english to their language as well. Yorubas add english in their conversation more than Igbos. Aside most traditional nollywood movies which are Igbo in culture their are many nollywood movies which are complete Igbo. Watch African magic Igbo. I will begin to dismantle lies here 'cos there are turning into propaganda.

I actually won't be surprised. I heard one overbleached igbo bimbo talking about how she would forbid her children speaking anything apart from pure correct English.
The very depth of human stupidity and the zenith of brilliance and rational thought can be found in the igbo race.
It becomes a serious problem when stupid people begin to outnumber rationality.
those English speakers will turn Nigeria around, watch while we the vernacular speakers are the ones holding it back

one thing Nigerians need to know is that you can never speak more English than the britons, that's why I get pissed off when I see some people who are subconsciously suffering from inferiority complex turn havard engliologist on other people's typographical error when they can't even read and write in their own language
but if you want to do business. with them, you must speak the British.
it's not a inferiority complex.
it's survival pure and simple

sure, being able to communicate in the language like the Asians and North Americans is different, but we nigerians have killed and are still killing our local dialects for English language, the inferiority is so great that someone who cannot speak English properly is seen as uneducated as if being able to speak English language fluently is correlated with being literate
