Why will you even shoot in auto mode? Have you ever tried it with external flash?
And what professional photographer shoot in jpeg? It limits your editing capability and reduces the megabytes of the photo

If you weren't in a rush to comment, you'd have noticed i said "basically". Which implies what i said are the fundamentals.

How do you expect someone not familiar with the principles of lighting to know how aperture size matters? Or how to set ISO settings?

What about white balance?

If someone is not familiar with the basic conventions of composition, how do u expect him to properly frame his subjects?

And if the budding photographer is not familiar with focus, how is he going to get sharp pics, and know about the effect of shutter speed and focal lengths?

So your basic camera settings will be meaningless to someone who doesn't know their fundamentals.
