Even the VOs know that most people are not returning to Nigeria cheesy

So..just like a student on an F-1 visa (who presumably must have demonstrated non-immigrant intent) will not be sent back to his/her country or denied just because they at some point later apply for a visa with some kind of immigrant intent or permanent residency, visa officers typically need to prove that a prospective student does not already have an intention to immigrate even before entering the country. Most students choosing to stay and work would probably be classified by VOs as those who made those decisions some reasonable time after. This of course can be subjective smiley
In fact, USCIS has their own way of double-checking this using time between when the individual enters the country as a non-immigrant and when they start processing such immigrant visa or GC.

Biko help me out o.

I have an interview soon.

I'm a Nigerian university graduate.

I'm seeking for admission into a US community college in Washington.

I have two siblings who are citizens of US and they are based in Washington.

My sponsor is my mother and I have her bank statements.

Now here come the real part

What are your advices for me?

I'm still perplexed on how to escape the "Why community college" question and why I chose Washington when my siblings are there.

The bold statement is absolutely incorrect. For an international student to gain entrance into U.S, it's up to the VO to decide if the student is genuine or not. They are paid to screen using their discretion. It's not about your choice but about being able to convince the VO that you're a genuine student. Getting the visa is no one's entitlement but an opportunity. So let's not be too overconfident.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your post. What I meant was that it is up to the original poster to decide if a masters is good for him or not, career-wise. Of course it is definitely up to the VO to decide whether or not to grant him the visa. His job is to do the best he can to convince the VO.

I wanted to post this yesterday, but was busy reading this part from page 1 to the current one. I usually check my topics after work so there wasn't enough time to read through the entire thread yesterday.

My sincere thanks to the all those who posted their transcripts as well as the members who gave out tips on how answer questions. I prepared for this interview by reading the part 10 visa transcripts uploaded in the last part by justwise.

Visa approved yesterday morning, 7am appointment.

I left my workplace at 6.30am, because I had to drop my bag. I got to the embassy at 6.55am, promptly joined the 6.30/7am queue and went through the verification process. It finally got to my turn around 8.05am, I was interviewed by a young lady in window 2 and the whole process lasted for about 2 minutes.

V.O: Please pass me your passport and I-20

Me: Drops my passport with the I-20 and SEVIS fee confirmation paper inside the tray/bowl before realizing I was not asked for the SEVIS
confirmation, but decided to keep quiet.

V.O: Why do you want a Masters degree?

Me: (Paused for a bit) I want a masters degree because I am interested in carrying out research in control systems, my research areas
include robotics, UAVs, autonomous systems and machine learning.

V.O: So you're interested in machine learning?

Me: Yes

V.O: Where did you obtain your undergraduate degree?

Me: Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife

V.O: Why did you choose Colorado State University?

Me: I chose Colorado State because of two Professors, Professors Edwin Chong and Tony Maciejewski. Prof. Edwin Chong does research in
autonomous systems, network control stammers a bit here while trying to recall some of his research projects) and target tracking and
acquisition so I quickly move on to the next prof. Prof. Tony's research areas are in robotic control and robotic vision.

V.O: (She was typing while I spoke) picks white paper and passed it to me with my I-20 and SEVIS confirmation. Your visa will be ready in 3
working days.

Me: Thank you (and walks out).

Note: Those hustlers at the embassy are very convincing, it takes a lot not to fall for their tricks. My advice to anyone going for his/her interview is to ignore those people completely as has been advised several times here. If by chance you have to ask for directions, ask any policeman or security personnel you see around the area because those hustlers seem ready to capitalize on any opportunity they see.
Congrat on ur Visa approval. Will be heading to Colorado State University come Spring 2018. Please let connect to share info. I av pm u already. Please reply ur mail. Thanks

For anyone who did not upload their picture as part of the DS 160, I don't know if we can just bring a passport picture to the embassy. It says that you will be turned away and advised to book another appointment.

Can I do a new DS160? cry

Bro, we are in this together. I am also going for my second masters degree. The first I had was in finance and now I am going for a masters in education policy. Totally different fields.

Here is what I think. It is up to you to decide what you feel is best for you, not the VO. You should really think whether another masters will truly get you where you want to be. Perhaps going for a PhD straight is the better option. In the end though, it is up to you. Whatever decision you make, follow through fiercely. You have a scholarship of $20,000. Fight for that. Apply again.

I pray that it ends up well with you bro. God bless!

Mr fenix, which school are you considering for masters degree in educational policy?

Have you tried looking at Ethiopian airline? they have relatively cheap flights so far

Ability247:
Abeg where can one find cheaper flights? My destination is Chicago Airport and the prices I'm seeing on travelstart.ng are mind-boggling shocked Like half a million and above

Also, can anyone comment on the services of Turkish Airways? From flight experience to layover experience to food

Well I just found out that there is no way to reopen the DS160 or do a new one. I guess I have wasted 64k....

This is my own carelessness. I can't even blame anyone.

You can fill out a new DS160. Go to your log-in page, just below the appointment history you will see "provide feedback". Click on it and send a message requesting to change your DS160 number. Keep checking your profile update to see when the update is made. It should be done within 48 hours max. I do not think you wasted that fee. PM me if you require further clarification

On God, I would never "yes mam no mam" anyone. I mean, think about it, it's ridiculous. People school themselves for Visa interviews and then play it like a lottery ticket. You act like you are going to bomb a plane. Whatever your preconceived notions, the VO knows technically. I have my money and then I'm gonna coon and be subservient? Hell to the no, honey.
Am not saying be arrogant. Just relax. Visa interviews are brisk and straight-forward. It mostly depends on you. The VOs simply react to your responses and reactions. And ofcuz smell good. Don't go there looking like trash, and don't suit up, goddamn, just be casual but classy and you'll be fine. Ultimately, relax. It's America. You might get shot for just being black, so don't overplay it.

OK na ....... The bold , only works when you live in insolation , don't apply for anything and work for yourself with only yourself as the customer then this attitude is fine

For the rest , who applies for things, work for someone to learn new skills and earn a living then "yes mam no mam" is perfectly fine . Yes mutual respect is key as well, even respect (nobody owes you that). It is mostly earned .

Nothing is a right, and most things acquired is a privilege
