We use Mediatek in all our newer phones

As a gamer when I see SnapDragon 8x I buy but weirdly I use a tecno phantom 6 and GPU is not that bad but nothing compared to Adreno. Though I haven't benchmarked Vulkan Graphics with Mediatek since am on Android 6

He is right to have said one cannot compare a chip from previous years to another chip from a different manufacturer in a present year. You cannot compare Helio X20 with SD 8260. Just like you cannot pit a matured lion against a just fledgling Tiger. You can compare Helio X20, X25 vs SD 625, 801. These ones are in ranks.

At least if you know better try educate him softly.

My Lg device I bought from US has a Qualcomm snapdragon processor, runs smoothly and saves power well.. whereas the Nigerian Variant has MTK processor with higher specs to compensate tho.

Mediatek = cheap chipset for cheap phones that you don´t intend to use for long.
Intel = novice. Still new in the Mobile world. So not well known.
Snapdragon: Market leader. have the best chipset for highend phones for now.

Others include:
kirin chipset. from Huawei relatively unknown.
exynos Chipset: from Samsung made from Qualcomm

I wasn't trying to make a direct comparison between these chips. Just giving you an example. Thankfully, you know they cannot be compared because they are not in the same category.

Perhaps use Google or better still ask Samsung. Do note that if Samsung eventually released a phone with mtk soc, it will be a midrange phone and currently, Samsung only produce high end chips... There were Samsung phone seen earlier this year with mtk p25 on gfx benchmark.... There is no rule that says Samsung can't use or will not use mtk chips, after all, they both have a working relationship
