You welcome.
You could also explore Career Edge organization. They have bridging programs for internationally trained professionals( immigrants) where they place you as an intern with an host company for a period of time and with that you are able to launch your career.(it's all about gaining the Canadian experience).
Most interns are absorbed by their host companies if they perform beyond or meet the required expectations.

Thanks for your response. My career is currently not in the line of HR, I plan to do a career switch. I have seen @Britiko's post and other contributions. I'll start with the Cke 1&2 and take it from there. Already researching and looking for study materials.

Hello, you need to join this forum https://www.nairaland.com/3999848/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled and ask all your questions about express entry to immigrate to Canada. I believe you already have a job? You need about $10,000USD more to add to that your saving to immigrate to Canada though. You'll find out all you need to know in the link provided above.

I started from the APEGA website. Put in an application for EIT and was then directed to the WES website where I followed the step by step guide for APEGA licensing applicants. My previous posts gives a break down of the cost. See summary below -

How to Obtain a World Education Services ICAP Report

1.Register for APEGA's Member Self-Service Centre, and receive your ID number. This ID number will be required to order your WES Report.

2.Follow the instructions to continue to the WES website for the next step of the application process.

3.Follow the instructions provided by WES. If you already have an evaluation report from WES, you may need to upgrade that report to an International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP).

4.WES will send the completed evaluation report to APEGA digitally. Physical copies will not be accepted

On the WES website it states that the docs I used for my initial application will be transferred to my new upgraded application (i.e. ECA to Course-by-Course) BUT surprisingly they came back with an email saying they are awaiting verification of my BSc transcript from my University. All other docs (i.e. my MSc + BSc degree certs and MSc transcript verification) were transferred from my previous application so I didn't have to do anything. I don't know if this is now the norm, but yeah that's the process I had to undergo.

Please note that APEGA licensing is for those who will be settling in Alberta and want to practice Engineering.

All the best!

pls how much did it cost to upgrade your ECA to ICAP?

Hi-

The total was CAD162.72.

100 for the upgrade, 7 for delivery to APEGA, 30 for the additional copy they sent to me (can't remember if this is compulsory), 7 for delivery to me, then Harmonised Sales Tax of 18.72. If the additional copy is not compulsory, then you might decide not to go for it.

All the best!

For your trip, you can wear light sweaters or cardigans from Nigeria but pack your winter jacket on top of your luggage. This is because you need your hands free to carry your hand luggage and it might be too warm to dress up in them but once you land, you can retrieve your winter jackets/head warmer/neck scarves at baggage claim and wear if it's a really cold day. If it's not that cold, you can put them back on top of your luggage. Canvas or tennis shoes are okay, you won't be doing any trekking and ice might not have formed at that time of the year on the streets. A taxi or your host will get you to your destination from the airport. Have a safe trip.

It really depends on you as an individual and your city of residence. I would advice, you research on colleges in your intended city and find courses or certification that are short and not expensive.
Some IMGs do challenge the health care aide certification and do well in that. It aids one to work while reading for exams.

Ekpekus how ur side!! Been reading your posts! Are u a doc? If you would like to join a doctors pathway group, pls let me know so I invite you!!

Btw, about this health care aide certification, what jobs can one get from it? Is it available as an online course? And is it in alberta and ONTARIO?

The fear of uncertainty will be there no doubt. The fear of "what if" is bound to come but have this at the front of your mind "IMPOSSIBILITY IS NOTHING". Many IMGs have been matched, so you stand a chance.
Yes it's competitive, so are you.. brace up to the challenges and see them succumb.
We nor come Canada come look oyibo face, na professional we be and we nor go settle for less.
In essence all things are possible if you believe and work it out.

Obobs i dey reason that kind route also!! Still dey reason am!! But won't that route have consequences on your PR calendar?

Hi, I believe you will be able to find a position to start off with based on your current experience while you pursue the necessary engineering licensure. A break down for this was recently shared on the thread by salford1, https://www.nairaland.com/3617393/living-canada-life-canadian-immigrant/52#59515959

I wouldn't advise rushing into an MBA just yet, not that it isn't good but you may come to find life pulling your career in another direction in your field. I would feel you should land first, see what is happening, see where employers are hiring vis a vis your skills, network with people already working here, see where various sector of industry are heading and where/how you can position yourself for the long term future.

An example, some people I know in Saudi Arabia are already thinking how they can transit their engineering skills in the petroleum sector towards solar technology as the Saudi government is diversifying away from dependence on revenue from fossil fuels. So likewise, research online and see where engineering is going in Canada and how you can position yourself to be in a good place 5 years from now professionally instead of doing 'catch up' at that time.

I have a friend here who was into power systems back in Nigeria, batteries and electrical back up systems etc. Having landed here, he got a job in this same field through Linkedin but is now studying for an opportunity to get into solar power as a tech. He got his job and started to read and pass each stage of licensing and certification required for his job. Having gotten some certificates under his belt, he has switched to another employer and doing well. This guy is also now able to do minor electrical work for people and getting paid for it, private practice.

The Ontario government is going big on solar power having shut down coal power processes a few years back. As manufacturing concerns are looking for cheaper and environmentally friendly power sources, they are taking advantage of government incentives to acquire and install solar power systems, not only nuclear. A lot of people are also getting solar systems for their personal homes and getting incentives from the provincial govt for this. Once one installs a solar power system in your home or personal business, you get a reduction in your hydro bill especially if you are generating and feeding power into the public grid. So you can imagine the sort of work/contract opportunities for the companies and people who have experience in this area.

If after you land, you still want the pursue the MBA, good and fine. At least you would have 'seen for yourself', the way the wind is blowing and set your sails accordingly. My main point is please be open to what is available through lots of research for someone with your skills. Networking and reaching out to people on ground will save you lots of time and bring you closer to your aim. I came with certain expectations too based on my previous experience in control, audit and fraud investigation but I ran my ideas by those I met on ground in my banking and finance area. I learnt from their experiences and coupled with the training for experienced newcomers I received, I made some moves. Not long after, I found myself in AML Investigations, a related field I wouldn't have thought of back home. Less then 2 years at this job and another unit in the same bank is coming to poach me to join them on High Risk Investigations because of the successes I've recorded in my current unit. This is another people manager role, the only person hired at that level with non-Canadian experience in the group, no fancy certifications, just experience and demonstrated skills. If I was not open to research, study and mentorship, the story may have been different. If I had discounted my foreign experience, I would gone on a round-about journey only to arrive here in some donkey years whereas my directors value what I have to offer. I still pursue mentoring opportunities and also actively mentor others in return, that way, I'm ahead of the curve, always in the know as to what is going on. Please see this post I made concerning some organizations dedicated to helping newcomers find some success after landing, you can get in touch before you land to learn of how they assist and see if their services make sense for you. https://www.nairaland.com/3617393/living-canada-life-canadian-immigrant/43#59077193.

Hope these tips help.

Brother man, i admire the way you take time to properly reply people here with your experience. Nice one.

Pls throughout your stay in canada, have you seen any doctor or individual doing Health Informatics (aka. Health Information Management)? It's one alternative career i love and will be happy about although the salary per year nor belle full me sha.....lol

So far I don't believe in them compulsory masters so i was thinking of NAIT or SAIT in alberta because these schools are good. If at all i would do a masters in this field, which schools would you suggest?

Lastly, blackbody, are there really loan programs available to immigrants in a alberta for study, like the one in ontario. Personally, is it advisable for immigrants to take up such loans for actual study?

Thanks

Please I need an advice. I am planning to migrate to Alberta. Most importantly I plan to start afresh once I arrive. I need advice on what certificate or diploma program I can do so as to get a good job. Gurus in the house, maternal, Salford, Congo and blackbuddy please kindly give suggestions. I dont have any preferences just something that will make me job ready. Am coming as a permanent resident.

As an experienced banker, you may want to consider financial analyst, I heard they are very well paid and I have seen a lot of job placements also.

Here comes the planning aspect. You can tidy all your Canadians and maybe PLAB/USMLE.. then see if you can get matched in Canada. That's plan A, if not, then opt for plan B which is doing residency outside but hopefully by then you don hold the Canadian passport smiley

Giving answer to your last question..
Yes there is loan, both federal and provincial in Alberta. You might also get a grant self.
If you really wan go school, then take loan cos you can't be using POF to be paying for school fees except your pocket is deep. Collect the money keep, use the grant and when you are almost done with your schooling, pay off your loan. However, if na small small you wan take pay off the loan, that option still dey.

Hello good people,

Please could anyone offer advice/direction on public/community health practice in Canada? My wife is a Medical Doctor and also has a Masters in Public Health. She worked with WHO on contract for a while as Local Govt Area Facilitator in Port Harcourt - they go to communities to sensitise, give talks, vaccinate and monitor for outbreak of epidemic diseases, etc.

We are expecting PR and would appreciate any info that might be helpful in this regard. Thanks.

Someone kindly help please.
