No option in SLT are in the college of medical sciences as it's not one. Do you even know the departments under the college of medical sciences? You talk like we no go school. All options are in the school of SLT (SSLT) which is under the faculty of pure science.

That biomedical technology (only done in FUTO and UNIPORT) does anatomy, Physiology and pharmacology technology and techniques doesn't and isn't same courses other medical students do. Practical approach isn't same as a course itself.

My brother if you and cronies don't what SLT entails download the NISLT Act and read through it, it would guide you and direct your practice based on your scope.

Look at this your Act and see what the institute isn't true to you guys on. Be guided check 2 (i) and read all sir.

Apart from Biochemistry. Do you do Anatomy( Human anatomy precisely), Physiology, Pharmacology. Haematology, Histopathology and cytopathology, etc, and you still say there's no difference......Just because you've carried out practicals on some blood samples doesn't make it similar to MLS......Pls don't be ignorant of all this.

i presume u can screenshot that of mls for comparism. mls from your own has only the clinical aspect which slt covers. go to page 14 of your mlsn and show us.

so know before u talk.

mls and slt are two diff courses that possesses certain similarities. why mls is limited to the.medical aspect of science slt haa a whole broad range of science to delve into.

slt students should know that slt is a professional course with.a lot of diversification. so dont restrict ur sef to the medical aspect alone but explore ur option very well

Universities in Nigeria offer MED lab science, medical lab technicians are trained in school of health and are there to assist the scientist trained in universities.
Uniben, Ekpoma,UNN,Rsut,Imsu,unilag etc All offer MED lab science

I don't know Why some are insinuating on Biochemistry. We have Medical Biochemistry & Science Biochemistry. The one of SLT is Science Biochemistry because SLT is under Faculty of Pure and applied Sciences not Under any Medical faculty. Those that graduated from SLT departments in Polytechnics they think they are equivalent to Medical Laboratory Science graduates in universities. I don't know what practicals they have done to make them think so??

Differences
1. To become MLT - 3 years
To become MLS - 7 years + x (5 years through school + 1 year internship + 1 year NYSC with X as variable pending strike plus the number of years it took to get internship placement)

2. MLT - College of health technology only
MLS - Accredited universities only.

3. MLT has limited scope they cover
MLS you must be jack of all trade and master of one

4. MLT - No matter the years of work experience as soon as a fresh graduate of MLS starts internship programme he oversees your work.

5. MLT - limited career progression to acquiring more degrees
MLS - You can aim for whatever position you want and continue in your academics without hindrance.

6. I believe you now know the difference

MLS and not MLT is done in the university.
MLT is usually done in college of health technology not university.
ESUT is accredited for SLT not MLS
In Enugu, only UNEC (UNN) is accredited to run MLS

my brother you are blessed. I love you for this post. I have been on this issue with this daft MLS for a long time now but he wouldn't accept. I studied SLT (Biochemistry/Chemistry) at university of Port Harcourt. I currently work at the Medical Laboratory of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University. A coleague of mine did her NYSC at University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Chemical Pathology Laboratory.
