I just stumbled upon Lateef Omidiji's IG page. So, a good number of the Super Eagles team sent him birthday wishes. Kelechi, Ighalo, Leon, Troost, Onazi, Shehu.

He's very much in NFF plans and Nigeria in his plans from what I've seen. Even his sister is dedicated to Nigeria

Is his elder sis,Sophia not with the female u20 team preparing for the qualifiers against Tanzania?.

Yes, it was kinda flukey
But I'm not saying Moses won't play again for CFC this season. Of course, he will get some minutes against "lesser" EPL sides, FA cup and league cup opponents. Hence, he shouldn't go to another club in January.

na wa 4 u,just one match,n u r ready to throw away everything he did last season to get to where is today, now u r limiting him for just lesser EPL side material, because he is a nigerian?

Players don't have to play in the country's local league in WAFU. The NPFL season is also over for most clubs.

Liverpool put in a bid for £9 million and he refused politely a few years ago.

I am concentrating on black players showing my bias unfortunately.

CIV central defender Bamba plays for Cardiff.

Players go to Turkey in the twilight of thier careers not for football but money. The tax regime is very favourable I'm talking 7% in some cases. The football is not so intensive so you can extend your career, less injury, etc

Barkley went to Leeds from Everton but was sent back as not being good enough. A few months later he's playing for England and the toast of the EPL.

Nasri is not a current international.

But if you want to talk about past internationals we can.

John Terry at Villa, Agbonlahor, past present Jonathan Kodjia CIV.

Lol.. You know you're scrapping down the barrel when you mention Agbonlahor as a proper ex international.
In my earlier quote, I clearly stated that you can only find African, Scottish,Welsh, Irish internationals in the Championship. Kodija, Bamba are Africans while John Terry is English.

The gospel truth is that the championship is too small for guys like Van persie, Sneijder, Pepe, Nani, Podolski, Quaresma , Bruno Alves, Nasri etc to strut their stuff.

Nasri had a great season with Sevilla last season. If not for his problems with the French FA, he should still be in the mix in the French set up.

You can't deny the draw of the Turkish league for established players. It is even muted that Ozil could be playing in Turkey next season.

I am not saying that Turkish league is the best in the world but comparison with Championship is way off the mark if we want to be honest.

First issue is money the Turkish league pays more and probably has much more money in addition the Lure of Champions league.

In reality the intensity, raw physicality and speed could be a lot to handle if you are looking to have an easy life or take it easy in the twilight of your career.

Two different types of football, playing a season or two
in Turkey and you can loose your competitive edge. It's just a much slower build up and far less intensity you can cover lack of speed and stamina with technical ability. I do recall speaking to a Nigerian international who came back to England and he struggled to capture previous form as a result.

The EPL preferences, particularly outside of the top 6 teams, a different set of attributes to succeed.

I'll put it this way a striker who scores 20 goals ➕ in the championship and one who scores the same in the Turkish first division. Who do you think will generate more interest in the Premiership and the Bundesliga

But we pay absolute peanuts. It probably wouldn't be enough to just maintain the high end cars he most likely will bring home.

Gambia Considers Quitting WAFU

By admin -
September 13, 2017

The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) is considering its position within the West African Football Union (WAFU).
The comments are coming after refereeing controversies at the last two regional tournaments.
The GFF has submitted complaints to the regional body and the Confederation of African Football over a penalty awarded at the ongoing WAFU Cup of Nations in Ghana.
“We’re considering our position in WAFU because with all the resources invested in it to go out in such manner is not fair,” the GFF President Lamin Kabba Bajo told Tidesports source.
“We will probably discuss the issue in a month’s time during our next executive committee meeting.”
The Gambia was knocked out of the tournament when hosts Ghana scored from the spot after Burkina Faso’s Boukari Ouedraogo adjudged a Gambian player had handled the ball.
This is the second consecutive WAFU Cup of Nations tournament in which The Gambia feels they have been treated unfairly.
Two years ago Senegal was crowned regional champions when The Gambia refused to play extra-time following a goalless draw.
They pointed to the fact that the match officials had said the match would go straight to penalties before ultimately reviewing the rules that stipulated extra-time should be played first.
The GFF’s protest also pointed to two other matches that it feels were poorly officiated recently.
One was an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in September 2016 when the Scorpions lost 2-0 in Cameroon, when the recently banned Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey was in charge.
The other involved controversial offside decisions during an Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in July 2016 as The Gambia lost 2-1 on aggregate to Guinea.
Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the League Management Company (LMC) has rescinded its decision to relegate Shooting Stars from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
On Saturday, the LMC announced 3SC as one of the four teams (alongside Remo, Gombe and ABS) relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL).
The Ibadan club lost 2-0 away to Niger Tornadoes in Lokoja on the final day of the season.
Their relegation was confirmed, after it was reported that another team fighting relegation, Wikki Tourists, pipped Gombe United 1-0 in Gombe. But reports later surfaced, that the game was abandoned due to crowd trouble.
Following the development, LMC has now come out to state that until the match report of the game between Gombe United and Wikki Tourists is available, the fourth team that will join Remo, ABS and Gombe (Wikki and 3SC) in the lower division is yet to be decided.

Yep this was what happened at Gombe United this past season. I must add that this is not what happens at every club in the NPFL. Normally clubs like Kano Pillars, Enyimba and IUFC are the high paying clubs but when a governor likes football things improve in the club. The highest paid player in the league is Godwin Obaje(IUFC) 2M a month. Before him the highest paid player was Rabiu Ali(Kano) 800K a month. Mid range should be around 200k a month. I should also add that most clubs give bonuses for winning matches.

Super Eagles Stars, Pinnick Confident Omidiji Will Choose Nigeria Ahead Of USA

Super Eagles star including Kelechi Iheanacho and William Troost-Ekong are confident they can persuade Feyenoord wonderkid Lateef Omidiji Jnr to commit his international future to Nigeria ahead of his country of birth, the United States.

The Nigeria Football Federation, especially Amaju Pinnick and vice president Seyi Akinwunmi, also deserve plaudits as they have been working behind the scenes to make sure the young striker pledges his allegiance to Nigeria, ahead of the 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup.

''Some of the Super Eagles players (Iheanacho and Troost-Ekong), Lateef has had long lasting relationships with them,'' a top source told allnigeriasoccer.com .

''They are super supportive of him, encouraging and see him as a baby brother and the one coming up behind them in the future.

''Today most people are finding out but he's known most of them for a while.

''Akinwunmi has gone above and beyond. Pinnick has been in contact with Feyenoord. They have emailed, called, spoken to Feyenoord to make sure Feyenoord know he's their player.

''Lateef is going to eclipse anything we've seen in a while in Nigeria in the coming years.''

Lateef Omidiji's father is a Nigerian based in the Netherlands, which makes him eligible to represent the three-time African champions despite being born in the United States.

Kelechi Nwakali Starts For VVV Venlo In 5-1 Loss To Monchengladbach

Forty eight hours after netting on his debut for VVV Venlo, Kelechi Nwakali was in action for the Limburg based club in a friendly against German opponents Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Manager Maurice Steijn decided to give a run-out to a number of players that were not named in the starting eleven in Sunday's clash against FC Groningen, plus the reserve team players.

But it backfired with the Bundesliga side thrashing VVV Venlo 5-1 in the behind-closed-doors friendly.

Raúl Bobadilla, Julio Villalba, Jonas Hofmann (2) and Cuisance registered their names on the score-sheet for Borussia Mönchengladbach, while Jonathan Opoku scored a consolation for the visitors.

Nwakali has been loaned out by Arsenal for the whole of the 2017-2018 campaign, as he's not yet eligible to play in the English Premier League due to the strict work permit requirements.

The Nigeria U20 international ensured VVV Venlo grabbed a point against FC Groningen when he netted in the second minute of second-half stoppage time.

TALENTED ONYEKURU NOT UNIQUE ENOUGH TO GATECRASH NIGERIA WORLD CUP PLANS
By Solace Chukwu

The highly-rated youngster got off the mark for Anderlecht at the weekend, but faces an uphill task to be relevant for Nigeria in a World Cup year

Henry Onyekuru is, without doubt, in a very strange place right now.

The subject of extended interest in the summer, he attained closure with a move to Everton, before going out on loan to Anderlecht. This past weekend, he opened his account for the Belgian champions with a well-taken brace in a 3-2 victory over Lokeren. On Tuesday, he will get a first taste of the Uefa Champions League in a visit to mighty Bayern Munich (already played).

While all seems well on that particular front, there seems to be a lot less certainty on the international stage. The 20-year-old made his international bow in the June 1 international friendly against Togo, coming on in the final half hour to somewhat underwhelming effect. Since then, the Super Eagles have played three internationals; he is yet to play another minute.

On the one hand, one might point to the high stakes involved in those three games. A double-header against African champions Cameroon (which now puts Nigeria within one win of a place at the 2018 World Cup) and the first qualifier for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, a competition the Super Eagles have been absent from in the last two editions; hardly occasions to experiment.
Then again, even the nature of his sparse involvement so far has been telling.

While the hype around his considerable ability reached a crescendo in the second half of the 2016/2017 season, affirmation from the national team coaching crew was reluctant, and somewhat belated even. When it did arrive, a 30-minute dive against Togo, with the game already won, hardly screamed approval from Rohr.

Similarly, while he was in the initial squad for the embarrassing loss to South Africa, he was one of those dropped in the final cull. For the double-header against the Indomitable Lions, he was excluded altogether from the 25.
Presumably, he will get a chance in the final qualifier in the group against Algeria, accounting for the possibility of a dead rubber. However, if Gernot Rohr goes into that game needing a win, it is unlikely Onyekuru will be able to stake a claim in a competitive fixture till Nigeria travel to the Seychelles in March.
The danger with this, and even with the more preferable scenario, is that Rohr might consider his team fully formed already.

At this point, it is clear what the German’s first-choice Super Eagles team is, and it has no place for the likes of vice-captain Ahmed Musa and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi. While Onyekuru does hold an advantage over both, in that he has started four of Anderlecht’s six games so far this term, both are enmeshed within the fabric of the squad.
Onyekuru, however, is not, and was dropped to the bench for Sporting's Champions League opener against Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening.
The aftermath of a qualification series is a fraught time for managers, as they have to juggle stability and the desire to make precise improvements to the squad. As such, it is not always as easy as saying he will get his opening eventually.
So far, one of the hallmarks of the Rohr Era is an unflinching loyalty, even in the face of sub-optimal performance and against the peculiar dictates of game-to-game exigency. He has persisted with the midfield duo of Ogenyi Onazi and Wilfred Ndidi, even though their deficiencies in build-up have been quite stark.
He has similarly kept faith with Elderson Echiejile almost obstinately, in spite of the left-back’s continued decline in output and fortitude, and continues to select Shehu Abdullahi (below) at right-back, even with Tyronne Ebuehi now a regular call-up to the team.

Largely, this trait has paid dividends, and the disinclination to rock the boat could be the factor that edges Onyekuru out.

It would be unfortunate, as he is an interesting player, somewhat similar to Moses Simon in terms of style. However, the Gent man has the benefit of having started three of the four World Cup qualifiers, and is handily holding off Musa at this point.

Victor Moses is even more immovable on the left and, when on song, he gives the Super Eagles the sprinkling of stardust that elevates it to a greater level. Onyekuru has similar potential, and can certainly contribute in the present, but is nowhere near this degree of explosiveness just yet.

Therein lies the nub of his dilemma: while he is a gem, he is perhaps not unique enough to truly threaten. He cannot best Moses for explosive skill and flair, Iwobi for ball retention and passing, or either of Simon or Musa for consistency and experience, even though he arguably has greater upside than the latter.

As such, and being apparently unrated by Rohr, barring a calamitous drop in fitness and form from any of the aforementioned, it is increasingly likely Onyekuru will be the odd man out when the squad to Russia is decided.
