"Sell me this pen" Are you trying to sell a product or service? Are you terrible at Sales and marketing? Each of us is a sales person and every day we sell one thing or the other. It can be a product, service, opportunity, religion, hope, faith, emotions and love. Little things like trying to convince your boss you need a raise, wanting to make your spouse see reason behind going to a new church, trying to convince your new catch that your friend's place is your house or dressing to kill and catching the attention of everyone around you. Some of you are quite good at doing these, but if presented with a product or service and asked to sell, the results are totally different. Why? Some will say "I hate selling", some will say "I can't sell", while others will say "i am not a sales person". Truthfully, you are good at selling, its the process of selling whats placed in front of you thats lacking. And that my friend, is the core reason for this thread. As i haven't seen a group or thread that talks about the art of selling in various industries, i feel its time nairaland has one. Let bring together the sales people and business people who have challenges getting customers for their products, and together lets talk about how those products can be sold. Lets focuses on the "How to sell question" from industry to industry, no text book and school lecture theories. A purely experience based selling resource that provide answers to questions like these How does a marketing Officer at the Bank meet his N100 million per month target, when its the 20th of the month and only has N6 Million so far? How does a sales executive at insurance firm sell N4.2 million worth of premiums? How do you sell a plot of land in Ketu for N72 million in under a month, when the plots around it are going for half your price? How do you sell a meter of pipe for N650 when others are selling N800 for 4 meters? Answers from professionals and business people who have faced them and done it. So if you have questions about selling in any particular area or industry, please feel free to drop your questions. Also, Aside from questions and answers, the thread will be a resource of videos, audios and books that will help anyone looking to get better results in business and in sales. cj1080:How do I introduce new product which is fruit juice to my target markets? How do I avoid selling on credit to my target audiences? What marketing strategies will you suggest to me on how to penetrate the markets in Lagos? |
Re: Learn Sales: Group For Sales people And Budding Entrepreuners by cj1080(m): 1:25pm On Sep 16, 2017 |
cefezyA: Hi CefezyA, It depends on the product. I am guessing it's a food or beverage and not a generator or plasma TV Where it's a FMCG, that's under the street price of 200, then it has a chance to sell. That chance depends quite a lot of factors. Is it a food or beverage How much is it How much do street hawker gain from selling each pack, pet, unit. Quality of product Taste Customer approval Packaging. Etc. Examples of products that fit the criteria above. Pure bliss wafers. Yummy yummy Big cola. Why no tell us a bit about your product? |
Re: Learn Sales: Group For Sales people And Budding Entrepreuners by cj1080(m): 1:47pm On Sep 16, 2017 |
edoman2016: First off, who is your target market? Are they Restaurants Bars Families Clubs Supermarkets You will need to find out what type of fruit juice they are buying? How much they are buying them for? Why they are buying them as against other brands? Will credit sales help you brand reach? If you sell on credit will more people buy or less? If you don't sell on credit, how many buyers will you have? In a test month of selling on credit and another of not selling on credit, what was the total sales? I can't really advise you on credit sales as you will first have to test both to know which best suits you. But I can tell you that if you brand is well received and liked, then the amount of credit sales will reduce. Now to your final question Marketing strategies? What has worked in the pasted for other fruit juice companies? Is it road shows? Market surveys? Or physical brand reps in sale locations? Have you tested any of these strategies before? I know I answered most of your questions with a question. But what I want you do is, see these questions as likely tests or processes for developing a sales process for your product. 1 Like 1 Share |

cj1080:Selling on credit generates more sales than not selling on credit. But selling on credit affects our cash flow and production targets since we don't really have much money for working capital on ground compared to the big companies. Sometimes, we had to wait between five to seven days to receive payment from our customers after supplying them. I never knew Bars is also a target market for our fruit juice. Is it not only alcohol that is sold in Bars? 1 Like |

edoman2016: This is a common problem faced by growing FMCG companies. At begin it will be able striking a balance between credit sales and running capital. But at some point the need for more running capital will surface. To counteract this, reduce the number of customers who delay payments extensively. Gradually demand for your product will cause then to strike a deal for new payment periods Also selling to bars and clubs, should be considered. As not every guest will drink alcohol, plus consider the spirit drinkers who mix their drinks with juice or coke. |

cefezyA: Selling facial cream on the street using street hawkers, Hmmm that might be a tad hard to pull off. Except you are targeting the local salons and makeup artist, but it will still be a hard sell, as your product may be way beyond the cost of what they are already selling. In the long run, street hawkers and their customers might not be the right way to go. |

cefezyA: Hi again CefezA Since you are in the cosmetic market, you can try contacting supermarkets and makeup salons For supermarkets, see if they can give you a display lace on their cosmetic line area, or a place to display your poster in and around the supermarket that indicate what you sell. A step further would be to have a sales person at the supermarket(If its a big one) that talks to clients about the cream, with this have a name number and email collector, you will use it to retarget these customers later(if possible) A third step for supermarkets will be to organize a music and display canopy outside the supermarket(If space is available.) for awareness and possibily testing of your products. While for makeup Salons, go with having a sample of your product there and a place to put up your posters. These are all to create awareness and traction, which you will use to convince other supermarkets and future distributors that your facial cream already sells. Although there are more expensive approaches you could use i.e Adverts in Newspapers and on tv. But that can be left for a future time. 2 Likes |

Ifylicious:What you need is sales canvassers to push your chin chin to your target markets. Your target markets should be shops in busy locations like motor garage, public and private schools, offices in business districts. If you need sales canvassers, there are lot of job agencies in Ikeja computer village. Kindly contact them for their services. |

jefy: Wow quite a lot of questions, Not so knowledgeable about the ok field. But being it's clothes and your targeting women, I would ask what particular age range are your targeting? Where is your sales location relative to where your customers are? Close or far? For bumper sales, in a competitive market, it would mean your offering quality for a far less price. Else you go the way of a niche. One that targets a subset of market rather than a while. I. E rather than women clothes, you do bra, nighties, sexy bathing suits. Kinky wear. For the part of your using your running capital to handle other issues, I would advise you have someone do your accounting for you, as you might eat deep into the capital you need to run the business. Or you could plan for 3 months stock and use the profit from your first months sales to handle other issues. |

Thanks for your indepth analysis of my questions in view, I will put thoughts to it and impliment.God bless you. To your question(s)'am targeting young fashion concious Ladies who wants to look trendy without breaking the bank...My location is close to a market, but nt in the market. So yes, my prospective customers are close to my sales location..I was actually looking at veriety rather than an aspect of the market. Dont you think variety will pull in more customers rather than an aspect of the market, since we are talking about cloths. On the aspect of accounting,i totally agree with you,but what do you think is the best saving plan for a business man? |
Re: Learn Sales: Group For Sales people And Budding Entrepreuners by cj1080(m): 11:52am On Sep 21, 2017 |
edoman2016: Nicely said Edoman, Ify these are the best options for. Surprsing before i got into sales, I once worked as a production supervisor at a Chinchin factory. Exactly what Edoman said, was how we grew our sales, but back then you wouldn't see chin chin being hawked on the street, so shops, schools and markets were the target for sales canvassers. It took a while but we went from selling less than 100 bags of chinchin(1 bag = 50 packs), to over 4500 bags of chinchin in 2 year. That said, some of it was credit sales at first, before upfront payment to produce started coming up. |
