You don't know the meaning of GDP. That's why you think its an irrelevant word. GDP is the sum total of economic activities in a country. It determines the economic growth of that country. And it is only GDP we can use to compare the economy of countries in Africa presently.

No single country in Africa is yet among developed countries of the world. Because economic development is completely different from economic growth (GDP). There are critical criteria a country must have attained before it can be called a developed country. Even China as a country that her GDP is in trillions of dollars is still classified as a developing country and not a developed country.
