Urgent help needed, I bought a tokunbo corrolla 2006 model from a car shop ,custom papers ,receipt of purchase ,remote keys given. After 10days of registration, zone 2 police stormed my house, arrested me and took me and the car to d station at onikan . Next day, seller was arrested,on interrogation ,he said the name of the original person that sold to him whom police said is hospitalised cos he drank poison as his secret is the open .
Now ,for 1week ,police is not making effort for my seller to refund me even though on his arrest, 4 vehicles was taken away from his car lot ..all I hear is we,still investigating matter which am beginning to smell a foul play as given that Nigerian police is easily compromised .
I need help and suggestions on what to do to get the car or my refund .
Am open to help of any kind .
Help a sister in need .

Police can't enforce your money to be refunded.

Get a lawyer to draw your money (I really hope you didn't purchase a stolen car).
Re: My Car In Police Custody?? by GAZZUZZ(m): 1:56pm On Nov 19, 2017
1. Police will not come to arrest you for a car deal unless there is an issue with the car.

So I understand car is stolen.

how did the autorities find out?

2 ways. 1. A tracking device, 2. Vehicle registration.

It is impossible to register a stolen vehicle with its original Vin presently in Nigeria, once a vehicle is registered, its info remains on a database in licensing office. vin was blacklisted, waiting for vehicle sale.

This has nothing to do with brand. Audis can be stolen (not common and easy sha), tracked and recovered so what are you saying?

People don't steal Audi. Mercedes Benz and BMW.. Like Toyota.

Anytime you purchase a new Toyota thieves in the neighbourhood throw parties to celebrate the new asset.

Are you saying Toyota has no safety except from 2006 upward?
Re: My Car In Police Custody?? by Enyinne(f): 3:11pm On Nov 19, 2017
The agent involved his friend to help in driving the car as agent was contracted to clear 4 vehicles and the corrolla was 1 of the said cars. His friend happens to betray him by stealing one of the spare keys ..
Does it mean that if it's a stolen car and I bought it innocently, that I won't be refunded ?

I'm saying toyotas made prior to 2006 were not safe to an extent.

If the car was stolen or unlawfully handed over to you, the car does not belong to you. You could be liable to be tried for purchasing a stolen item. Whether you knowingly or unknowingly did this will be determined later and does not acquit you of liability.
It is a Criminal charge.

It is the duty of the police to recover a stolen item, verify the owner and return same to the Owner.

Any money you have paid for such item could be recovered by filing a Civil claim against the person or company you paid to (if they refuse to refund you).
The records -police/court of the substantive Criminal transaction will serve to buttress your *separate* Civil claim.

On the other hand, if the car was not stolen, its still not your car if it wasn't sold to you by the legal owner.
The longer your money is out there, the harder it is to recover.
Your best option is to get a lawyer to intimate you with the options available to you.
S/he will be in the best position to defend you against criminal culpability and earnestly pursue your claims.
Good luck.

Admit you bought a stolen car.

Involve a lawyer to claim back your funds because once the police releases the criminal seller, you are on your own.

Perhaps if you calm down and explain your ordeal better you may get useful advise. Everyone here is yet to understand what the actual problem is because you’re all over the place. I guess you’re under pressure.
