Red Flag Number 1: 8 Years Gap is enormous

At this point , your fate was decided, you're about tk spend thousands of dollars for another liberal arts degree in a third tier school; This further raises another red flag

The VO cornered you here real good. and strengthened his resolve to deny you the visa , because you went ahead to waste application fees on a school, that didn't offer what you were looking for; Huge red flag sign of a desperado.

all this was just formality, dude already resolved to deny you minutes ago.
CONCLUSION: Aim for a Postgraduate degree, in a somewhat better school.

Thanks for your suggestion sir ? am grateful am actually thinking of a post graduate studies and good suggestions of good affordable schools are welcomed I would need to write exams GRE right?

TBH,
You have to take it along, all those CGI guys will be telling you it's important right on the queue..
So, it's better for you to go with it or else you want them to send you back..

I went for mine last month and I was told to put my 2 passport photos , ds160 and appointment confirmation in between my intl passport..

So, you must take it along.

VO:Goodmorning your I 20 and your passport .
Me:here your go sir .
VO:why are you going to the US?
Me:I am going to East Central University Ada Oklahoma state for my degree program in business administration and management.
VO:when did you finish high school?
Me: 2009
VO:what did you do after that ?
Me:I want to obtain my bachelor's in history and international relations
VO:A bachelor's
Me: Yes exactly( the question was coming very fast )
VO:why not a master in BA
Me:wanted to advance after my bachelors
VO:how many school did you apply to (honestly) I answered 4 name them
Me:Kettering university ,HCC ,Centennial collage and ECU
VO:you are aware HCC don't offer a BA
Me: yes that why i didnt go on with the admission
VO:who is your sponsor ?
Me:my dad.
VO: what does he do !
Me :he just retired from EEDC and is running his vagitable oil business .

So he said sorry you are not qualified bla bla bla bla so I left need advice would like to get it right next time thanks .......

These might not be the reasons but against next time....

1. Saying your dad just retired implies the statement of account you showed them might not be sustainable as his income is affected

2. STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING & MATHEMATHICS) courses take priority. It's the ingredient for development and it gets priority as they have a shortage of them here.

Understand that your visa is non immigrant, but they are also gate keepers to ensure if you do migrate you will benefit the United States. So every NIV interview is a potential audition for a future American.

I am highly suspicious of some first class from some state and private unis in Nigeria, the overall student environment breeds the one eyed man , king of the blind situation .

However,
you might find some of the info below helpful, its not every time you will be this lucky. With proper planning now, Fall 2019 shouldn't pass you by.
First, you need to decide on the course you want to study, To save you some stress start from this website http://graddecision.org/ to know the application process, So step 1) Decide on the course you want to study 2) Search for schools using a)www.msinus.com (open this website with a laptop, you should see a list of school and ranking for some of the most common courses, you can start from there b)www.gradschools.com c)www.google.com (you can just type 'msc in bla bla in the us in google' d) www.usnews.com e) www.4icu.org . 3) check up the website of the schools you find, to see the requirements. most schools will require GRE and some will require both gre and toefl . 4) Register for standardize exam and take it. You can register for gre as soon as you are ready and prepared to take the exam. Its done online at www.ets.org. You can also get all the information you need about the exam on the website. You will get adequate materials to prepare for the exam in this dropbox I created https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t9ot6d07hp1lkm7/AADL_dTihjEvNBRCBsmAcoXja?dl=0

TOEFL is an English test required by some US universities. though, some schools waive due to the fact that Nigeria is an Anglophone country.
For toefl, all you need are the speaking noteful videos in the link below, the ets toefl guide is enough to ace the exam for other sections. Just download the toefl ETS Guide from there website and the simulation test.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/45tvc3ifi8wh8sh/AACXR5j6l3nsWK8vZx5P28TVa?dl=0

As for the Tuition, if you have good results (GRE, GPA, Toefl), SOP and LOR; US schools do offer assistanship to graduate students. This can either be Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant or Administrative Assistant. Depending on the school, if you get an assistantship, your Tuition will be waived and you will also be paid a monthly stipend that can take care of your living expenses. One advice, once you shortlist schools, send emails to the grad cord of the schools and ask specific questions relating to that course and funding opportunities, be very explicit.

Lastly, there are basically 2 admission session in the US, Spring (Jan) and Fall (August). Schools admit more students in Fall, so Its advisable you plan towards Fall 2018. If you plan to resume in fall 2018, make sure you submit all your application documents before ending of Dec 2017. If you don't give it a trial, you will never know.My philosophy in life is to always do my part, with that I don't get to regret later. Above all, if you believe in God,pray to him..if not, good for you.

If you have any question, drop it here and you should get more than one good answer.
For every Engineering graduate school prospect coming here to ask for school suggestions, who does not have access to US news ranking, this spreadsheet might save you some stress. It has all the 2017 ranking of Engineering schools. It wont take you more than a week to start sending emails, perusing each school website to see which one of them you have chances of getting into and which one meets your goals and aspirations.

Well maybe private schools but I will never question a first class from a public school, because I know how hard it is to make a first class , at least I know of my Alma mata, OAU. Its a matter of life and death.

From Bsc in history and international relations to another Bsc in business administration and management.......

I said it many times here it makes no sense and scream of someone who just wants to run away .....because why would you spend another 4 years and $$$$ getting a similar degree but i keep seeing that here.

Also your response that " wanted to advance my bachelors" .....no a bsc to another similar Bsc is not an advance and a wrong response especially when the VO has hinted you that why not a masters .

Sorry about your denial

Is BSc in Statistics similar to BSc in Information & Computer Science with concentration in IT?

I already have the former... going for the latter.

I'm not actually shading you, but I've seen situations where some first class dudes in some universities, never held a single scholarship award, or didn't even know what an aptitude test was either, all they ever cared about was the good ole GPA and an intending civil service job. In public universities here in the south west, the social scene is vibrant enough that student s get the required exposure of what corporate life and life in general looks like on the outside.

What you are saying is exactly the truth, here in South south most people don't know about it. I had to meet one of my lectures ( Yoruba) for advice where he told me about seeking for scholarship if not I wouldn't be aware. Since then I had a positive mindset about it.

You didn’t ask me what food you should eat today though?

For a guy with a first class, this question is an awful disappointment. There is asking questions to gain knowledge and asking because you are intellectually lazy.

The VO who interviewed you is a badass. The guy methodically dismantled and exposed you. Another closely related bachelors degree for thousands more and you supposedly applied to a community college that does not offer the degree you claim to be interested in. Obviously the VOs are reading these threads and are already aware of your tricks.

good evening house i am back with another question.I am currently checking up on schools that I would likely apply to.Please what should be my guiding point in avoiding choosing a school that is graded low by the embassy? oga twood n co pls ur opinion is highly needed

You’re going about this all wrong. The aim shouldn’t be selecting a school favorable to the VOs but one that helps you achieve your goal - which is to advance your career. In that case, these are things I would think about if I were you:

1. What is my major of choice?
2. Which are the top schools for that major?
3. Depending on cost and admissions requirements, can I narrow my list from 2) above to 3-4 schools?

Chances are, all schools selected in 3) above will be acceptable to the VOs and you are better placed to answer the question “why did you select this school” without needing a mock or cramming someone else’s answers.
