I have seen many claims on here that wearing hijab to one's call to bar is against the law, but I have yet to see anybody cite the specific law that is being violated. This is not about Amasa's religion, it's about her secular rights, and in this case, the law school, in spite of its unique position as the nurturer of Nigeria's judicial institution, is evidently the erring party here. The law school should ferociously adhere to, and promote the spirit of Nigeria's constitution, not brazenly violate it, as it has done against this young lady. I'm happy she's brave enough to stand her ground, and I stand with Amasa Firdaus!
Opinions stink. Herewith is a picture of a female officer in the American Army putting on hijjab without no confrontation. It wasn't allowed before Obama but now, it is. How did they do it? Fighting for it. Same thing this girl's doing. A fundamentalist Female Muslim without Hijjab is naked. That's what this is all about.

Asing for uniformity is NOT taking away her right to practice her religion.

smoy:
so, not the same country constitution that give her same right to practice her religion supersede any regulations?

This is a much bigger issue than what this girl is looking at. Every institution has its code and conduct. The Nigerian Law School has there dress code, so does NYSC. The NYSC dress code of wearing trousers is against a lot of Christians faithful, but they have to wear to fulfil the clarion call. A lot of religious bigot want to bring in controversy in everything. Law is a respectable profession that should not be dragged into the mud by religious bigots.

this is a very brilliant comment

when the lady that graduated from lasu then refuse to wear nysc trouser, she left and no CAN raise any mouth or castigate nysc body

don't know what the fuss with this hijab. does the hijab makes her holy

if she received proper home training, she won't disgrace her family in that prominent convention

if I'm Muslim and my daughter do such, she won't bring such shame home to meet me

one thing why i can't convert to Muslim is because of their intolerance and dominant nature

By the way, what or who is she hiding her face from? Will the husband killer wife in Abuja also cover her face and claim another vieled person did the crime?[/quote]

The USA judicial dress code is different from that of the British which we follow.

Make they settle am this case can be resolved amicably. No be Nigeria we dey. Always a way around to bend laws if you don't want to break it. I hail Nigeria!!!

what are you proud of her for.

she's a Muslim, she should be asking for her right in the Sharia court, because women have no right in the Sharia court.

so you mean she should have worn a hijab for inauguration?

Women have a right in Islam in and out of the Sharia Court.

Hijab is COMPULSORY, Olodo.

Easy with the rush. What's the worst that will happen if she doesn't wear it. The Muslim sisters that has been called before her, are they inferior Muslims to her.
The law doesn't permit it. If it doesn't go down well with her let her find another profession. Stop the fanatism. Some people pointed out sharia courts (women like yourselves are not even permitted to be sharia lawyers)

Why not fight for your right first as your are being alienated by your own religion.

AB Mahmoud that posted a picture of his daughter on hijab during her call to bar in New York should also post pictures of Nigeria roads, railways, power systems etc and compare them to that of New York's. We only choose to copy nonsense from advanced democracies while neglecting those critical details that made them advanced.

Dear miss Amasa firdaus, I don't have anything with you but kindly respond to my question accordingly.

Do you have an international passport?

if yes, did you remove your hijab when you took the passport?

if no, would you remove your hijab if you want to take international passport having known that you can't take it with your hijab?

if you can take away your hijab away for few minutes during which the passport is taken then why can't you take it off as well during the "call to bar ceremony"

morealso, if the code of conduct is amended so to say. what should be the fate of other faithfuls like christians, traditional worshippers e.t.c because they have their own mode of dressing as well.

furthermore, what would your stance be if you're to judge a case affiliated to islam and other religion(s) and the islam person(s) is found guilty based on your religious belief?

these are my few questions begin for answers

Do solemly respond

Hijab is very much accepted for int'l Passport.

And I have never seen anyone cited where it's written hijab is not accepted during call to Bar

She disobeyed the one law "secular" protecting her right as woman unlike Islamic law which advocate she shouldn't even go to school in the first place. If she loves Islam dis much she shouldn't have gone to school in the first place.

Do you need a Christian State to practise Christianity or an Islamic State? Let be objective and tolerant of others' religious and social view and stop being unnecessarily biased. It is so pathetic that many People have lost their sense of humanity and reasoning. Shame on you. What a waste

The reference to New York doesn’t have any merits and it is like comparing apples with oranges.

Lawyers in the US don’t have uniform or a proscribed way of dressing even in court. No wig, no cap, no regalia, nothing....you are only require to dress professionally to respect the court and for male, a nice suite and tie is just good enough.

In Nigeria, lawyers are mandated by law to dress certain way period!
