N-Power is a social intervention programme for the unemployed in Nigeria. On the other hand, it is addressing some of the perennial inadequacies in public services.

As an N-Power beneficiary, tell us how what you do helps the society.

Still reserve my comment. NPOWER indeed. 12months non payment of salary. I must certainly press charges.

Away from that, the truth remains that Npower job has affected lives & a lot of Nigeria welcome it well. 30k is better than nothing, if u think other juicy jobs in federal public sectors are not for poor Nigeria, think about those who has gotten this job in a plater of gold. don't 4get, Rome was not built in a day. the problems with today youth is that, they want to build heaven & health in a day without going through any stress. i presume u are one of such person.

wait, are u a Nigerian or an Indian? your grammatic expression seems illogical! looks like u are translating mothers tongue to English language.

How many Nigerian have gotten the federal jobs on a platter of Gold? Please under what rock do you live? Certainly your level of exposure and experience have not only impaired your judgement but beclouded your mentality. I guess so many Nigerians have gotten federal jobs on merit, even on your Nairaland app many have not only shared their interview experiences but also testimonies of their offer letter content. Threads on jobs like NDIC, NEXIM, BOA etc are among the threads on your app. undecided

By and large, a scheme that pays graduates 1k/day is far from being reasonable. sad

And about not going through any stress.

Some people are just bitter because, they aren't pre-selected by Npower. This is not a permanent job, the two years period will give you an ample time to get better offer.

Some are saying you get it with connection, I know many people that aren't connected but they were preselected.
Where is the time to get better offers when Npower especially the Nteach staff work like permanent staff. A friend of mine goes to school by 7:45 and closes by 3pm except on Fridays when she closes by 1. She told me they hardly take permission and they have workload like permanent teachers. I think the FG should not throw these ones out after 2years. The first set will be rounding off this year December I think. My question is... Will they go back to the streets?

Stop writing nonsense.

It is a social intervention scheme. NOT Permanent work.

It is a stop gap.

2 years is enough time for someone to find something meaningful to do. If not, I doubt if such a person is self-reliant.

The gig economy in the UK, those who work in bars, clubs and restaurants get 0 hours on their contracts. This means they can be fired at any time.

Some of you just love to talk because you've been given a platform.

Are you expecting government to give permanent employment to all the graduates in a country?

Some things are wrong in this country. Npower is not the waybill out for the children of poor parents who struggle to see their kids through higher institutions. Highly paying jobs are not advertised anymore in this country. 30k is better than nothing as you correctly said but that doesn't make the future of the beneficiaries look promising. Rather, it gives room for anxieties like: what happens next after two years?
By this time that npower has clocked one year, I expected FG to have come up an improvement. You sure know that this is neither an employment nor empowerment.

No. But they can really empower the beneficiaries if they are interested in doing that. This Npower as it is now is just a waste of time.

Really?? 30k monthly is a waste of time ??

I'm sure you are an employer of labour .

Please tell me how many people have you employed and how much are you paying them?

You should have just ignored him. He's either a paid agent/ firebrand or he's just been mischievous.

How can someone say 30k job is not a waste of time.
Desperation is certainly at work.

I really wonder what empowerment/welfare is to them. The end of a two-year programme where the empowered can't stand alone. For instance the Nteach, would they establish their own school from the 1k/day?
To compound their quagmire, the high paying jobs are no longer advertised, so where is the hope for that common man on the street.

On the average in a month, how much do you spend a day? Do you even have an idea what this same FG that's paying 30k to the beneficiaries is paying entry level at NSCDC, Agencies, Commissions Ministries and so on.
Why the difference? After all, it is just two years. Why the discrimination?

What exactly is wrong with it?

It is a welfare scheme not an employment scheme.

It is a stop-gap.

Why not ask them to be remunerated as much as the DG?

This attitude of opposing everything for the sake of being opposition is silly.

She is in that school to assist them not to serve as a permanent worker. Even, Npower gave all volunteers to seek for jobs.
I wish the Federal government could absorb them into civil service, but how many workers are in federal civil service they are not up to 500k. The state govt can help out in this case, I know many state that lack teachers.

I'm not sure of that. Those I know who filled that form got shamed in the end. Till now I still make jest of them.
Back to the question, if the government really wants us to correct the ills in the public service, they should start by expanding the coverage of Npower, what stops us from working in ministries and parastatals... The likes of CBN is meant for their children while we are to be correcting ills with a stipend of 30k that can't even cater for my weekly needs.

If you like say I don't appreciate it.. Their children in CBN, NDIC and other...getting job through the back door aren't better than average Nigerians

I laugh in Spanish... I have lost faith in this administration, the only person I support is my Fashola, others are just birds of a feather!
An intervention programme that will engage you for two years of your life and return you to the street isn't worth it the first place. What kind of empowerment programme is N-Teach, what skills would they acquire in the process. Its use and dump!

Your post is so far away I had to bring it up here. You made 100% sense.

As for those mentioning me, if you make sense I'll reply you. If I don't just know your mentions belong to the gutter
thank God you are aware there is a form some people fill offline

Might I suggest that the beneficiaries of this scheme be absorbed into the civil service? N-Power beneficiaries have passed a competency test, received training, and are not ghost workers. They make a great addition to the government workforce.
