Abdullahi Celebrates As Anorthosis Reach Cyproit Cup Quarter-Finals
By James Agberebi

Super Eagles defender, Shehu Abdullahi, has expressed his delight after Anorthosis progressed to the quarter-finals of the Cyproit Cup on Wednesday, Completesportsnigeria.com
(CSN) reports

Anorthosis held 10-man Ayia Napa to a 1-1 away draw in the second leg to advance 4-3 on aggregate. They had won the first leg 3-2.

Ayia Napa were reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Stylianos Stylianou in the 64th minute.
Anorthosis subsequently capitalised on their numerical advantage, and Douglao scored from the penalty spot on 65 minute.
Omar Rowe pulled a goal back for Ayia Napa in the 90th minute, but it was not enough as Anorthosis advanced to the quarter-finals.

Reacting to the win, Abdullahi who was in action for Anorthosis in the encounter admitted they were given a scare by Ayia Napa.
“Difficult final minutes, but we survived the scare! We are through to the quarters after first leg victory,” Abdullahi wrote on his Twitter handle.

CHAN 2018: 5 Things Home Eagles Must Do To Beat Libya

The Home Eagles made a slow start to the 2018 African Nations Championship(CHAN) on Monday playing out a drab 0-0 draw with Rwanda in their opening Group C game in Tangier.
Ahead of the second group game against Libya on Friday Completesportsnigeria.com’s JOHNNY EDWARD outlines five things Salisu Yusuf’s men must do to record their first win at the tournament.

1. The Home Eagles Must Be Clinical In Front Of Goal

Salisu Yusuf’s men recorded 18 shots overall and six on target in their first Group C match against Rwanda. Three of those efforts hit the crossbar. The trio of Anthony Okpotu, Sunday Faleye and Emeka Ogbugh who had scoring chances in the game must be clinical against a Libyan side that was not really tested defensively in their opening game win against Equatorial Guinea. Also Kano Pillars midfielder, Rabiu Ali, who supposedly is the team’s play-maker must also do more to ensure his crisp passes beat the defence of Libya for his forwards to score.

2. Salisu Must Change His Approach

The Home Eagles need more than one player to dictate the pace of the game, to stand a chance of defeating Libya on Friday. Coach Salisu Yusuf deployed a 4-3-3 formation in his opening game restricting Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, playing in the deep lying role to just the ball winning duties which unarguably is his primary assignment.

The Akwa United midfielder can do more than what he offered against Rwanda by influencing the game more if he is also allowed to launch attack from his defensive position. By doing that, Rabiu Ali could also get the freedom to move up front and closer to Anthony Okpotu who was isolated for the better part of the match against Rwanda. Okechukwu Azubuike is another player with experience who can come on at some stage in the game to offer more threat in attack for the Home Eagles.

3. Okpotu Needs More Support In The Attack

Parading Anthony Okpotu, a last season top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League, didn’t help the Home Eagles in their opening game against Rwanda last Monday. The Lobi Stars marksman who scored 17 goals for the Markudi outfit was isolated in the attack and barely got the needed support from his teammates to get off the mark in the competition.

The inexperienced duo of Sunday Faleye and Emeka Ogbugh did not really support Okpotu who was restricted to half chances for the 78 minutes he featured in the game. Despite the lack of support, Okpotu had three attempts on goal. But that must change if the team are to stand a chance of defeating group leaders, Libya.

4. Top Players Must Raise Their Game

Top stars in the Home Eagles were far from their best in their opening game. The likes of Osas Okoro, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Rabiu Ali, Anthony Okpotu did not really stamp their authority in the game against Rwanda. Ali in particular, who touched the ball more than any player during the game, failed to create clear cut chances and also failed to take his chances despite coming close to scoring twice.
For all their qualities as individuals (Okoro, Ifeanyi, Ali and Okpotu), they proved defiantly ineffective in changing the course of the game against
Rwanda. Not one of the quartet showcased any genuine leadership that the team can turn to in times of adversity.

5. Coach Salisu’s Need Good Luck

In every facet of life, we all need a bit of luck to pull through despite the hard work and efforts put into a task. The Home Eagles’ game against Rwanda saw Salisu Yusuf’s men firing 18 shots on goal, three on target and they also crashed the woodwork three times in their opening game. Undoubtedly, they were unlucky that none of those strikes went in. Against Libya the Home Eagles must pray that they lightening doesn’t strike twice.

NFF reveals World Cup program

To several applauses and commendation for good planning and focus, the Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday in Lagos made public its 2018 FIFA World Cup program for the Super Eagles, revealing venues and dates for six pre-World Cup friendly matches, kit launch, camping programmes and venues, the team base camp, sponsors’ event and how the team will travel during the World Cup finals proper.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick unfurled the entire program at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, immediately after the contract signing with Coca-Cola.

The program explained that the Eagles will play Poland, Serbia, Democratic Republic of Congo, England, Czech Republic an a yet-to-be-named South American team on the way to the World Cup finals in Russia.

On 7th February in London, kit sponsors NIKE will unveil the official kit the Eagles will use at the World Cup finals, while a Sponsors/Partners event will hold also in London hours after the friendly with England’s Three Lions at Wembley on 2nd June.

The team’s first phase camping will hold in Abuja or Uyo between 22nd and 30th May, while the second phase camping will hold at a health resort in Austria 3rd – 11th June.

The close camp at the Eagles’ official World Cup team base camp is at Yessentuki, Stavropol Territory in Russia’s southern region, starting 11th June.

KEY DATES

7th February: NIKE to launch official kit in London

23rd March: Friendly Vs Poland in Warsaw

27th March: Friendly Vs Serbia in London

22nd May – 30th May: First Phase Camping in Abuja/Uyo

28th May: Friendly Vs DR Congo in Abuja/Uyo

2nd June: Friendly Vs England in London. (Same night, Sponsors/Partners event in London)

3rd – 11th June: Second Phase camping in Austria

6th June: Friendly Vs Czech Republic in Austria

9th June: Friendly Vs TBC in Austria

From 11th June: Close camp at team base camp in Yessentuki

http://www.thenff.com/2018/01/nff-reveals-world-cup-program/

All these friendlies put together are already more than the number of matches played during the group stage of our World Cup qualifiers.

This will really give Rohr the opportunity to assess a good number of these players, test several tactical options and give the team the desired blend.

Obviously there would be a lot to discuss and argue about in the coming months.

Can't wait!

Is anyone watching Chelsea vs Norwich?

The level of competitiveness Norwich has shown is top notch matching every chelsea players man for man. The intensity of the game speaks it all. They've not taking their feet off the gas thereby forcing an equalizer in the stoppage time.

Ebuehi did himself a lot of good by not joining this side. He would have ended up on bench. The Benfica move is a Smart One.

Be careful are you saying that Ebuehi is not good enough for Norwich

And that he will find it a lot easier in Benfica. You know I was talking some years ago to some players at Marseille and they said they wanted to come to the EPL for the challenge, the intensity and to test themselves.

Just saw these mentions now and I think I should put things straight.

I have never compared Kayode with Iheanacho or anyone else for that matter.
Mind you,I think Kayode is not best suited as a striker, he's more like a wing forward in my opinion. Anyone who have followed my comments will know I like my strikers big, fast, technical and CAN PLAY WITH BACK TO GOAL. Comparison with Kelechi is out of the question. I mentioned Kayode will aoon break his his duck in Spain when I noticed people took turns in trolling him unjustly. Had absolutely nothing to do with Kelechi.

Finally, I said Kelechi was useless as a LONE FORWARD
(Did you deliberately forget this? Only you can answer that). And yes! I still stand by this statement and will defend saying this, anytime, any day, be it in a shrine, church or mosque.
At least last night proved what I have been saying all these while. Slimani provided the foil for him and he thrived.
Look, I have long gone past looking at football as just a spectator. I have lost count tye number of predictions and analysis which have turned out to be true in the fullness of time.
I read Tbaba's comment which he said Kelechi have been coached by managers who dwelled more on his finishing than developing his all round game.
I smiled when I read this because this is what I have been saying for the better part of 2yrs.

I unreservedly agree with your deductions at the risk of being vilified by the KC can do no wrong fanatical fans.

Like I said there are those I liken to analysts and those who are emotive fanatical supporters.

A wise man is not moved by such unguarded and unrestricted rhetoric.

Agreed with an addition.

Money miss road and intentionally finds itself clandestinely in the pockets of some MC officials and preferred agents.

In other words the deal was more important than the player.

Report: Arsenal to end Nwakali’s loan early
By Arseblog News Hound - January 18, 2018 3

The brother and agent of Arsenal youngster Kelechi Nwakali has revealed that Arsenal are planning to bring the Nigeria youth international’s loan with Dutch side VVV Venlo to a premature end this January.

The 19-year-old midfielder moved to the Eredivisie outfit in the summer on a season-long deal but has struggled for minutes. He scored on his debut back in September but has been restricted to just 11 further appearances.

Speaking to allnigeriasoccer.com, Allwell Nwakali revealed: “Arsenal decided to bring him out from VVV Venlo because the coach was busy playing the players that came from relegation with him leaving players like Kelechi and some other loan players on the bench.

“There’s a Real Madrid player (Mink Peeters) that is about to leave the way Kelechi is leaving.

”Arsenal never wanted him to be on the bench because they have their plans for him.”

His brother also revealed that Portuguese side Porto have shown an interest in taking the player in the second half of the season.

”FC Porto of Portugal are interested and even wanted an option to buy but they are discussing with Arsenal now. Arsenal are not interested for such opinion because they need Kelechi soon in the main team.”

Last season Nwakali was also in Holland with MVV Maastricht.

I disagree. Ebuehi is good enough to compete at Norwich. Benfica is better than Norwich, he will get champions league experience.

My immediate deduction is that Benfica is undoubtedly technically better.

But better is pregnant with meaning, what is better, comprehensively better or better in some regards.

I remember a few years ago when sporting Braga played Burnley fc in a friendly and but ended in a draw. The Portuguese struggled to cope with the physical intensity and speed of the game.

Yes he will hopefully get champions league exposure if he breaks into the team. Can Benfica afford to leave him on the bench or worse still in the B team, yes they can.

However, Norwich will, not never leave him to rot on the bench they simply can not afford too. If they have to send him to the gym to beef up they will. But play he must.

That's my view though limited because I don't know Ebuehi contract terms at Benfica.

Hahahahahahahahahaha..... Funny how you exalt yourself to such high heavens as an analyst when you couldn't even correctly analyse what it meant for Kelechi to be the EPL's deadliest and most lethal striker in terms of goals per mins ratio at the end of 2016/2017.

To you, the only analysts as those who share your very negative was of seeing Things. People who relate admirably with your blind route of talking the beautiful game. Lol... what am I to expect from a super pessimistic fella such as yourself? We are all a reflection of the words we repeatedly spill here. I can really see your reflection. I knew it the very day you stepped foot in this place.

Man, your hypocritical ways of analyses are well known on this thread. So desist from throwing silly shades at the rest of the house. Analyst indeed. You are more of an agent than a analyst. When it comes to football analysis, you are a such a disgrace with the way you go about turning a blind eye to Kelechi's top achievements and calling it archaic only to see you quote Onyedimma's CV from three-four years ago as one to reckon with and as one still relevant. You resort to half truths and lies coated with your sweet fine way of organising your words. Listen Sir, you should really be ashamed of yourself. You are no analyst.... at least not in the eyes of the majority here. smiley

So back off...
