Yes people need to be enlightened but do it without misinforming them.

You and saouri are being disingenuous just because it did not workout for you.

1. You can still work in the UK after graduation through Tier 2 work program IF you have what it takes, nobody gives you a job just because if you have shinning pieces of certificate, even in Nigeria getting a job is hard after graduation.

2. This is the bit that got me nut..before you apply to study in the UK you knew that getting a job is hard, you knew that the fees are high, you knew that you have 4months to stay after graduation BUT STILL you went ahead to invest your millions of naira expecting miracle.

The UK govt never promised you automatic job position after graduation so why are you here moaning about injustice done to you?

This is the case of mental laziness and this attitude of entitlement, if you have done your homework before applying to study in the UK you would have known that..

1. Getting a job in the UK after graduation as a foreign student is hard and competitive because British and EU graduated will be priorities first.

2. You need to study a course that is in demand and listed in occupational shortlist https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-k-shortage-occupation-list, that increases your chances of getting a job.

3. If you graduated from low ranked university your chances of getting a job with that qualification is slimmer, this is the problem with many foreign students because low ranked universities are cheaper and easier to get admission into.

Apart from EU & UK citizens, American students get preferential treatment as well.
South African students, Kenyan students, Jamaican students and even Zimbabweans get these jobs at a higher rate than Nigerians...

I am talking about my former classmates here who have lesser experience and in some cases even lower grades...

There is discrimination against Nigerians.
This thread is not about entitlement!!!

No please go to Ireland. You will get two years post study and if your field is STEM, you can get a job hen move to Canada after two years, if you wish. Ireland is opening it borders now Cos it wants to improve its economy like the UK did. So take advantage of it before they shut it down too

Thanks for the awareness. I have a BSc Chemistry, if I’m to study in Ireland which sch would u suggest. Thanks

Nye nye nye!

This is so condescending! So. You didn’t have it in mind to work in the Uk when you went to study right? It was your spirit that applied for the job, paid for the English tests and showed up at the interviews?

Madam/Oga, I know the stress that many friends of mine went through to work at the NHS, only 3 got in out of 7, and the 3 wrote their English tests more than 4 times so please keep your condescending attitude to yourself.

We are trying to let people know that there’s nothing in the UK for them, and all you’re doing is rubbing it in their faces that studying should be the aim, excuse me, you are in a country where they don’t study and they get begged to work, studying is not sweet, it’s a means to an end. So please allow us enlighten as many people as possible on the disadvantages of burning millions of naira with no return.

Thank you

Misinformation was the last thing on my mind when I wrote my response, rather I wanted to puncture the writers statements because he generalized it. There could be someone like me who can take advantage of the system but reading such would definetly put the person off. So all I did was to provide a dissenting voice to the writers statements.

As to getting a job in the NHS, I took IELTS once in Nigeria as part of application for the program and my score was good enough to see me through the Nursing registration, so I don’t really understand what you are saying.

How many of you have seen Jamaican foreign students in the UK? It will take you years to come across more than 5 Jamaican student in any university in the UK.

Yes that is why you should read read and read then PLAN!!! before you invest your money either in education or business.

Did you do your research before coming to the UK?

You have no right to insult the British govt because they are not under any obligation to provide job for you.

You pay the school fees and you get the qualification..end of the deal, whatever comes after that is just act of generosity.

First of all, I am just seeing nairaland. Had no idea it existed and that it is this great (gotta compliment you guys).

Secondly, it is precisely because we want to help people do their research that this thread was made. Everybody knows the pros but only few know the cons. Now people who do their research can learn about the cons because of this thread, so what’s wrong with what we are doing? The universities don’t put this information on their website, so we have come together to put our experiences so people are better informed and don’t make mistakes. How is this bad?

I will say this again. I gained a lot from the UK. Honestly, working in the UK was never the plan, my folks wanted me back within a year, I just wanted to sly them by applying to work there- I knew I was going to get a job immediately I returned to Nigeria.

However, I will not pretend (like you are doing), that a lot of people go to the UK with hopes of remaining. I am trying to fight for the poor ones that slave and borrow that money with that hope at the back of their head, so they do something else with the money. Is this a bad thing?

I respect you a CRAZY lot justwise, but It’s wickedness like this that’s stopping Nigeria from moving forward Cos what you’re literally saying is “eh even though the economy in Nigeria is hard, let them borrow money and come to the UK, study and return!”.

We have no beef with the UK govt (lol, how dare we?!) we just want to tell it as it is so people don’t bother, Abi are you getting paid according to the number of Nigerian students that are in the UK?

No, is either you deliberately refused to understand what i'm saying or you are just being mischievous.

My message to anybody planning to the UK is to read read and read, plan BEFORE you decide to come to the UK, know what you are entitled to, don't start crying and regretting coming to the UK after you might have invested the money already.

If i'm getting paid by the number of Nigerian students coming to the UK to study i would have been pretty rich by now..i mean really loaded.

*Clears throat*

1) True, working is harder in Nigeria than UK but I got a job in Nigeria within two months of returning. That’s how good I am at my field uncle. The only thing that hindered me from getting a job was sponsorship in the Uk, they wanted to keep their sponsorship for more experienced experts. My professor (Emerita) in school spoke to the owner of a web design company to employ me, but the owner explained to me that all she could give me would be an internship for the duration of my stay because of the sponsorship hassles. A professor wouldn’t have done that for me, if I didn’t have prospects.

2)I had no idea about everything you wrote. I always believed the US was more expensive and didn’t know about the 4 months stay. I knew nothing! That’s why I’m trying to give back to the community.

3) yes you get preferential treatment when you’re an EU/UK person, I think that’s fair. I would want my country to do same.

4) I studied a course that’s in bloody demand (IT) and I’ve got a British certification to add to it too. I am in Nigeria but keep getting invitation mails (and apparently phone calls from head hunters) for job interviews that fit my expertise. I didn’t get headhunted when my address was a Nigerian address, until I put up my UK address and mentioned that I wouldn’t be needing a “sponsorship”.

5) low ranking or high ranking, the UK is desperate for people to work for them, they actually pay their citizens to go to uni just course they need the expertise. So when they see someone from a shortage profession that doesn’t need sponsorship, they pounce on them.

I understand that it’s been years since you last experienced the work situation in the UK, so please let me enlighten you ok. I’ve learned too much from you, now it’s my turn to give back. There are no jobs in the UK unless you want to work for the NHS who need experienced med staff more. If you like, be on the shortage list, nothing for you until the home office relaxes their sponsorship laws a bit.

The UK govt owes me no job, true, so they should keep their job, I’ll keep my money, there’s peace. cheesy

Cheers boss.

In addition to the above. All countries eventually make it more difficult based on the political party in power or immigration level targets. Their infrastructure and social services would eventually become stressed and decay at a fast pace due to overpopulation. I know Canada for example has target immigration level by 2020 i.e 2018 to 2020. Who knows what would happen after the levels have been reached.
UK used to be very immigrant friendly till the Eastern Europeans flooded the country for better opportunities.

Very true

He chose to spend that amount of money on the degree programs. The UK is not obligated to give him employment as they prefer British jobs for British workers. There is nothing wrong with being an economy migrant, only that you will not be prioritised.

Thank you for your point.

THIS THREAD IS NOT MEANT TO SAY THAT THE UK OWES STUDENTS JOBS, ITS MEANT TO SAY “YOU WON’T GET JOBS IF YOU GO O!”

Is it clearer?

Now let the people that this information is directed to make up their minds on whether or not they want to still study in the UK. A little advise wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) hurt anybody.

I know right! You’d truly be very rich, with the number of Nigerians flocking into the UK. I was a student advisor for my school, I was shocked to see almost 40 Nigerians in my uni, when I went to welcome them. That was during the recession o! In my mind I was wondering where they got the money to pay the tuition from. When I moved closer to them, I found out that they were actually people that hustled to get the money, with big hopes that they would work afterwards.

My heart broke for them. Some of us can get away with spending that amount of money, but some can’t cos they probably borrowed it with a promise to return it after getting a job or even used up their parents life savings.

This is why I’m even very passionate about this thread.

You raised a valid point but you counter it yourself.
Lets pick the point one by one.

1) I said semester ticket is free...you said its subsidized......let me use a state like Northrine westfalia as example.... a monthly ticket for non student that covers dortmund to dusseldorf alone is 220 euro.multiply it by 6 month =1320 euro

Compare it to a student who pay 280 euro as semester fees....the semester fee covers all your studies for a semester, takes you the whole of the state, this ticket also takes you to holland and belgium free for six month.....can you compare 1320 to 280?

2) You said not all school are free....what are expecting? You want private university to br free...in my ealier post I.mention only govt universities...the only exception is baden wurttemburg( 1 states out of 16).

3) You talk about rascism: please sir are you new on this platform? Cant you see ipob and yoruba e-warriors on nairaland? Rascim is everywhere bro...how you respond/react to it is what matters. Even UK policy of brexit, cancelling of post study visa is rascist and anti immigrant.

You lived here for 19 years says alot about the country.
If its bad am sure you would have port away.

Like I said, presently in the western world, Germany is the easiest, immigrant friendly and economically best choice for average Nigerian.

Danke.
If you pay for something even if it's one Euro, you cannot qualify it as free, because you are paying for it. There are perks you get from different states, but you have to differentiate from state to state.

When I replied you, I don't think I spoke about private Universities. I said Education is state affair, and you should be specific and not generalize. BTW, how many private universities do you have in Germany? There are not many, so please learn to keep arguments in the proper perspective.

Again, saying it's only B-W that collects fees shows you are not conversant with the situation. Bavaria does collect fees too, even if the fees you pay are not as expensive as what you pay in the UK. You still have to calculate it as part of your cost to arrive at the proper cost of living.

I do not know how you young people argue. First and foremost, tribalism and racism are two different things. Secondly, online rants, and physical attacks are not the same either. How many of those ipod people or Yoruba e-warriors have you heard are going after each other on the streets of Nigerian towns?

And if you had understood my post very well, you wouldn't come with such ridiculous counter argument. I remember to clearly have said Eastern Germany is particularly worse. And the most states in the East are poorer than the west, and they have a lot of these Nazis all around towns, and it is much dangerous to go out alone again. This was something that happened 20+ years ago, and the government did a lot to suppress it, and in the wake of the plenty asylum seekers have resurfaced again.

I lived 19 years there, and it was the most enjoyable time. But I was aware of the dangers. I was aware of where to go, where not to go, and I avoided going to some areas in the dark alone at night. Still, you cannot totally avoid these people. And comparing Nairaland ipod and e-warrior rants to racism, and saying there's racism everywhere tells me you are not conversant with the danger of Nazism. Anti foreigners sentiment is very high in today's Germany, and people need to know it. If you want to go to school in Germany, avoid states in the East (Saxony, Mecklenburg-Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony- Anhalt and to some extent Thuringia) even though it is cheaper there, because the chance that some lunatics can physically attack and kill you, because of your skin colour IS REAL.
Besides, you may not find a semester job if you stay in the east.

Ok I understand.

Some of us didn’t need to write IELTS Cos our WAEC hep’d us, so a lot of wannabe nurses had to write the IELTS.

Please check your time frame, you got your job 4 years ago yeah, did it occur to you that maybe, just maybe, the system gets tougher as the years go by?

The only way to remain in the UK is if you go back for a PhD (lol you will just get 3 more years) or you marry a citizen. The OP should be commended for even warning people about getting married just for papers cos not many people use the PhD route.

You'll receive child benefits on all of them, but now its down to two and get your fact right before you challenge..
Anyways we're not getting paid for arguing
Just saying.
Weldone atleast youtook your time to go back and swallow your own vomit. You claimed people have 4 to 6 kids in the Uk to collect benefits, this you knew 1st hand and I challenged you to go back to read the rules as regards child benefit. Now you know you cannot collect for more than TWO (2) kids so how does she feeds the 6 kids? See where Assumption failed you, here is waht you wrote

Jjporch:
their women have children for different men ao they use the opportunity not to work,
They'll receive, redundant, child benefits and also receive money for their children's fathers
You'll be shocked to see a young lady barely 24yrs with 5,6 children
So amazing.
