There is cooking gas and there are small cooking gas cylinders. Cooking gas is cleaner, safer and all around a better choice than firewood.

The stove is not only mediocre, it is backward. Someone will be in some tiny space breathing in fumes and reducing his /her lifespan.

So.. Can you comfortably say that there are more cooking gas users (let's forget about where it is manufactured for now) than firewood users in Nigeria?

Yes there might be some flaws from that design like heat loss, However, in as much as the heat loss is less than heat gain and the heat gain is the minimum energy required for the work done then no problem.
Also, as long as there is a spontaneous combustion of the fire firewood it's fine because the cooking will become less stressful.
The most important factor here should be the SPONTANEOUS combustion of the firewood and not distance between the fire and the pot besides from the design the distance is fair enough.
