Let's stop this. Assuming we're taking out finishing, Ideye is comfortably a better option than Umar. I like Umar, but sorry Ideye is better when it comes to linking up play. I also think Ideye is underrated on the ball. Like someone said earlier, he can play alongside Ighalo/Nacho in a 4-3-3 which can easily morph to a 4-4-2 or as the main CF with someone like Nacho out wide.
Ighalo was 75 percent responsible for Emenike's success from the 2013 afcon and afterward. Emenike mostly struggled without him.
I personally feel we need creativity. Aluko for example can play as a 10, outwide and even as a false 9. That's the type of options we should be looking to add to the team(assuming if Rohr is still scouting)
I hate reading about this link up play...
we are talking of strikers scoring goals....and here you are sir...you're talking of ideye.
even keshi acknowledged the reason for leaving him out of 2014 world cup..because the team need to score goals...

Ighalo is not a better striker...because he is not a potent goal scorer....
for now...I will want umar and dessers to ne tried....and let's see what they have to offer in training.....both i believe to be a better finisher that both...we need someone that can be at least lethal in front of goals....

How true is this??
Yes,pls try and watch Finidi debutant match against Burkina Faso and Oliseh first match against Ethiopia then you will agree that they are great passer, very unfortunately we don't have such player with such attributes, may be Mikel,Ndidi just need to work on his passes both short and long to equate Oliseh.

We are in need of someone that link midfield with attack i.e creativity. We have Iheanacho who is one of the best finishers around. Creativity without Mikel is the main issue we have.

Ideye has 6 goals in 27 games for the super eagles... That is 1 goal every 4.5 games.... His record is even worse than Ighalo.. How does that make him a better option in finishing?

Ideye-Emenike partnership was 5 years ago 2013.. Since then, several things have happened, Emenike for one is no longer in the team.

Ideye has failed to impress in the confederations cup, went on a terrible barren spell for Nigeria, failed in West brom, had a decent spell in greece, was poor in China, has not been great in Spain and He has been left out the last three games with no injury.

Ideye is a hard-working player but his recent results are limited. Facts...

In terms of style of play, Ideye and Ighalo are also fairly similar...

Granted, we need creativity and it might be late for someone like Umar but it does not mean that it should not be talked about.

Umar name popped up because some feel we need someone with hold up play correct??
I'm sorry if I'm a coach, the only reason I'd pick him over Ideye at the moment is that he has a greater upside. If we were to pick who I expect to perform better in a tournament, I'd pick Ideye no doubt.
Ideye is more similar to Deeney than Ighalo in my honest opinion. Ideye can hold the ball up better than Ighalo. Both can play together.

I actually agree with you.

However, Ronaldo would probably stand out.

It's a hard league to play good technical football but if you can somehow overcome all those obstacles and play a skill based technical individual game then you will stand out then coming to the EPL will not be too difficult.

That is where Dele Alli came from England arguably most skillful player followed by Adam Llanna also came from league 1 with Southampton and in more recent times England current best defender ( my opinion) Gomez came from League one. And closer home so also did Ademola Lookman.

Do you know how hard it is to play technically proficient skill based football, when you are surrounded by carpenters and water carriers.

However there are a few teams that play good football like Chartlton, MK Dons, Peterborough and Shrewsbury. Don't forget MK Dons disgraced Manchester United a few years ago beating them 4-1 if I remember correctly.

Downgrade is a very sweeping statement. Did I down grade Obagoal, V.Moses Mikel, Ighalo, Ndidi, KC., etc

You are being misleading. We are taking about a 21 year old who has not played up to twenty professional games in his entire career. And I stand by what I say Sadiq who you say is extremely strong fast and skillful will struggle in League one. So those attributes are questionable when put to comparison.

How can you say that he will flop in league one when he has not played in league?

You are exaggerating things a little bit sir

I'm not calling for Umar's immediate inclusion though but I think you should stop exaggerating league one because of few good lads. It is easy to understand that in all lowly rated leagues, you do find a star (not like Lookman at the moment)

How many starts did he get in Serie A? He had to wait for Bellotti to get injured to start a few games for Torino.. And he did take on defenders when he had the chance.

What defender did he take ? Are you suggesting or you watch him play or you even saw his stats ? Someone that was not given chance to play so when did he take on defenders ?

He managed 7 match in bologna for a full season and no goals,in Torino only 3 match in a half season? That chance is not enough to take on defenders or even get a goal

And times I m surprised by this thread by the caliber of players you will call to be invited, son because at nac Breda 3 goals in 5 matches he should be included?

Please don't provoke me ooo. What is this sacrilege you just wrote? Oliseh not good in passing?

Oliseh was a master of telegraphic, long range passes. He fed Yekini so many through passes.

I remember then way back when I was still in junior secondary school, I read in complete sports or so when Oliseh was playing in Juventus (I am not sure now but I know it was when he was in Italy) the coach said the reason he loved Oliseh was that he doesn't just kick the ball, he passes it.

There is one thing that keep on baffling me here, double standard, just checked Umar Sadiq professional record so far, really surprised that some believe he has something to offer than Ideye and funny enough better than Ighalo?fallacies

Cyril Dessers started his professional career in Belgium with a lowly club where he had good youth football before moving to Lokeren with 25 appearance with no goal for two season and moved to Nec breda in dutch division two with awesome performance and snapped up by Utrecht, but so far couldn't tie a regular shirt though 7 goals in 17 appearance but some believe he is the answer,no issue he can be a good option.

But telling me Ajagun at 25 has passed his prime but Dessers at 25 still has a lot to offer, why double standard in passing comments on our bona fide players who are doing well.

While the argument can be made that Umar has improved, Ajagun has been quite consistent and I would support his inclusion in the 35 man list as well. The question should be who are his competition, and can he give them a good fight? It will definitely raise the standard in camp irrespective of whether he makes the final cut or not.
Umar will bring good competition as well.
Onyekuru will. Dessers might.

And we need to focus on recent form in our discussion, unless of course a player can borrow his form of 5 years ago.

Umar's name popped up because of his current form...

Much of what has been spoken about Umar has been the fact that he brings a different dimension and is not more of the same.

Most of the people talking about Umar have not watched him play recently.

He has always taken on defenders, that is his style.. This boy is 21 so he is still improving..

He has barely had opportunities. None of those 7 games in Bologna were up to 90 mins. He was brought on as a sub for each of those games. Sometimes a player needs a run of games to show their ability.

He has 4 goals and 3 assists in 8 games so far in Breda and been influential in winning dangerous set-pieces for his team.

That said, the WC might be too close but i certainly see Umar as the future number 9 amongst all the other prospects.
