Not anymore
there used to be one between Uturn and Abule egba sometime ago but it has gone defunct.

You can try out some pool side hangout spots around there, just ask the okada men, there is one inside Beckley estate.

I think I have this problem with my 08 Avensis. Mind taking a pic of where it can be found so I can show my mech. Thanks baba

GAZZUZZ:
I will give this quick lecture on fuel consumption and sludge, how they relate.

Newer cars from 2002-date have variable valve timing systems, these systems work with oil flow/pressure to determine timing settings. You will notice most engine covers with inscriptions like VVTI IVTEC, CVVT etc... its all same technology every one just wants a special name tag.

Now here's the snag.

You buy a happy toks car, it's a sprinter.... 0-60 in 10secs ( tongue it's a bloody Corolla) 6months later it stops sprinting, 1 year later it's a log of wood and engine vibrates when ac is turned on, finds it difficult to climb hills and fuel consumption has almost doubled.

Now here's a bit of what happened (Nigerian 20w50 sludge context)

The timing settings are set to a retar.ded position when inactive or without any instruction from the ecm. With sludge in the mix, it is almost always in 1 position. The OCV (oil control valve)has oil strainers that keep dirt out of the device, and once engine develops a sludge issue oil flow stops. Engine will not throw a rod, but timing setting become epileptic, or get stuck in a retar.ded position, making the engine very in efficient.

Pics below show what the OCV oil strainers will look like when engine has mild, sludge, and when it is clean.

So take out time and clean your OCV strainers, you will get better fuel mileage. wink

Calm down. There are loads of Abj drivers and partners on this thread. When this thread was created, uber and taxify weren't active in Abuja.

Please we are here to learn and benefit from each other, don't talk down on anyone especially since he didn't address you particularly.

Una Weldon.

I've never had an issue with surge on taxify. I wait till we've covered some distance, then I go "ehen do you know this is a surge trip?" The person goes no o, then I be like weren't you informed at the point of requesting? They say no, I'll go "I don't know why taxify does this" bla bla bla, the point is to play a victim too, so it doesn't look like I'm profiting from their "misfortune" that way the rider doesn't see me as an accomplice. Lol.
On a side note taxify actually shows the cost of the trip but the riders don't look at it, for instance the original cost is 300/65/9 when it's surging the price changes, most people don't bother checking

im on the ground in nigeria an owner,
driver and an automotive technician.

Chevy cruise with the 1.4liter has a 150,000naira turbo charger, I said turbo charger not engine. How many techs do you think know how to service a turbocharger?
Ow yyyou can give me an eBay quote for the same parts, but realistically no one wants to wait 1-2weeks for a part via Ebay because he is saving 50k

Mr Gazzuz, let me just say I'm amazed (if my assumption is right) that someone like you exists in Nigeria, born and bred. You've been a blessing to many. kudos.
But then I'm not on board with this assumption of a linear correlation between engine size and fuel economy of cars. I can't be bothered to type the details but suffice to say I'm quite versed in the theory and data on this issue

Hello, please what car specification (model, year and mileage esp.) is currently acceptable for Uber? Thanks

Lanre,

Ideal car :Toyota corolla, 2003 upward, mileage is not much a criteria. But if you getting a Tokunbo less than 56000miles in the odometer,it is good.
Accepted both on Uber/Taxify

Please which coolant do you suggest I buy. I have been using 2k abro for my corolla
GAZZUZZ:
My partner says I should start calling it daily tips, so here we go.

daily tips.

I have noticed a cycle, young mean struggle to find 600-800k, buy a vehicle they assume they can manage and be fixing small small while using it on the platform.

Sadly I have met with a lot of you and I see the frustration on your faces, it's almost the same cycle over and over again.

So here are some tips for aspiring Young men with limited funds

Avoid cars that are electrically abused: if you open an engine bay and you see wires flying upandan, please close bonnet and run.

Avoid cars with abused air-conditioning systems.
If pipes have been welded in multiple joints, condenser has been swapped with a different type compressor of a peugeot put in a corrola, try and avoid the car, fixing such vehicles will set you back over 100k in most cases . And there's no room for manage, it will just be a cycle of repairs till you get frustrated.

Avoid cars with accidents that affected the chassis.

avoid cars with rust!!!

avoid strange unpopular brands, (they come with strange unpopular problems! grin) Renault, suzuki, Citron,
chevrolet, NISSAN these cars are not bad, but also not good wink

About engines, if it's a Nigerian used car, ensure you do a research on the availability and price of engine and transmission, put it at the back of your mind that you might be replacing 1 or both of them in a short time.

When you finally do buy that car.

Ensure the fans do not run steady, they should be automatic, ensure the Thermostat is present, all this to ensure better fuel economy.

Don't jump into synthetic engine oil if there is no history of such use, first observe what happens on the first cycle of mineral engine oil, if it shortens after a 3000-5000 km duration. If it does, prepare your mind for an engine overhaul or replacement. But in the mean time keep trucking, topping up oil never hurt any one.

buy and install good tyres, don't inflate above 35psi,

Check suspension parts, replace defective parts.

The use of coolant (original coolant not that useless 2k Abro) is expensive, but long term will save you a lot of money.

Finally before you pay for that car, find a tech, or a friend that has some mech/tech knowledge to help you look at it.

finally the best buys are usually not sitting in car stands, but are cars driven daily, so when you see an advert on jiji or Olx and they tell you I go to work with it every day, meet me in xx office to come see it, it is most likely a better buy than one sitting in a car lot waiting for a buyer.

u hit the nail on the head bro.. It's even more painful for us that use taxify alone.. After working so hard to get to 4.8 from 4.4..and it took just a day to drop that much..

For those that have been blocked for poor ratings, were u given a 5 points to restart with

Hell no! You continue from your previous ratings and God help you if you don't quickly build it up in good time.

If it drops any further your ass is going down again
