So you want to earn same amount with doctors? Do you think it is fair for you a lab technician that spent 3 years in school and a doctor that spent 6 to earn the same?
When it comes to administration of hospitals, yes doctors should not be head of hospitals. Doctors don't have any advantage over other professionals when it comes to managing hospitals.
keep your mouth shut.... A medical laboratory scientist course duration is 5 years +1 year INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME+1 year NYSC=7 years.

The so called doctors are telling the world that we are agitating for parity how can that be possible for example if a doctors is already earning N10 and FG increase their salary with N5 making a total of N15, is it bad for the JOHESU who is earning N7 and also asking for N3 increment to make it N10 doest that mean parity? some people are just opened their mouth and saying all sort of rubbish without even get to the root of the matter are the doctors who are now crying fowl can publicize their salary and that of the JOHESU for the world to see? some ignorant people will be supporting the doctors without doing their finding. Doctors salary has been increased between 2014 and 2018 twice why the salary of JOHESU remain same since 2014 are the FG telling us that we are not working or important in the hospital setting? those people in support of doctors if i may ask can they go to hospital and seek doctors alone without the assistant of JOHESU and come back home completely medically ok? This is question we must ask ourself, can all of us become a doctor? let us use brain to comment not head or emotionally there is different from PARITY and EQUITY Johesu are agitating for Equity not Parity please listening attentively

NMA aren't even bothered by JOHESU salary increment demand. It's their right but why must they bring Doctors' salary scale into it?

And why do y'all want to be Consultants though Why is it included in your demands?

There are some incentives that drive people to go through the headache of medical school and you want to hand it to others who had it relatively easier during training on a platter of gold under the false guise of EQUITY?

And where exactly did the "nurse" gave you the drugs?
In a hospital?
Answer me, let's take it up from here
this was a nurse in the airforce base. qualified nurse .
pls let every one do their job and not try to over step their boundaries. Nurses are not meant to change prescriptions neither are they to diagnose patients . if the doc is wrong( let it be on him or her) . too much confusion every where. people lives are at stake

It would also have been more productive for you to find out how a Jehusite came t o be earning N697,02442 at CONHESS 15, a salary level far above that of a Director-General on GL 17 in mainstream civil service. This was made possible because you are attached to doctors. You lots are a bunch of ingrates. Likemany people have posited, all manpower should be outsourced, let's see if years our CONHESS 15will earn up to N300,000.

Attached to Doctors??! What is even wrong with you? If they are attached to doctors, then why don't you detach them so that you can have the entire hospital to yourselves??! I am taking the fifth on all these issues, but your statement is rife with arrogance tinged in conceit and poor objectivity (if not a total lack of). It's because your Health ministry reasons so narrow-mindedly that a strike which should have been settled before it even started has dragged on for this long. Research on how developed countries run their hospitals, and be ashamed of your country.

You're right but concerning the call, other professionals in the hospital run call too. only nurses do the shift system.
The only people I'm sure do calls are Medical lab scientists and most of the time, they leave the next morning. Pharmacists run shifts, nurses run shifts, radiographers run shifts, record officers run shifts, cleaners, security men etc. Most health worker's run shifts.

All health works should be allowed to head their various professional department without interference of others who do not have a degree in such specialty.
Salary should be review for JOHESU members with a difference of entry point for the cclinicians. Equal salary for those JOHESU members who have also spent the same number of years in the university should have the same salary scale with same entry point. In other countries, we doctor of Medical laboratory scientists, doctor of pharmacist like the current trend in Nigeria today.
NMA should desist from interfering with JOHESU demand with Federal government.
CMD/ MD is an administrative job, therefore it should be advertised and open to all in the health sectors. Following Nigeria track records of minister of health, non medical professionals as a minister of health did better than what we are seeing today. From what we have see, the current minister of health Prof. Adewole ISaac has proven that he is not a minister to all health works rather just minister of NMA.

But why are you guys always always bringing up doctors' salary scale to compare

They keep saying a starting doctor earns so much than a nurse who's been in the system for years.
You cannot compare a starting doctor to a nurse who has worked for 10years. . . .he still knows more about treatment than the nurse and at the same time knows less than a fellow doctor who's be practicing for 10 years.

A young doctor shouldn't be compared to an old nurse. There's no basis for comparing their duties hence salary scale shouldn't be compared.
but the NMA has always been the 1st to throw venom at other people's negotiations telling the government on how much to pay to health workers. you have to be objective when you write...always get your fact right

You need to learn how to be objective. Physicians are just an arm of healthcare delivery, with clearly defined boundaries of profession. No pharmacist or nurse with proper training claims to be a physician. Everyone is merely demanding for fairness. To claim that your field of practice is superior to that of others is infantile and stupid! That's why johesu went on strike, so that your doctors can prove how superior they are by diagnosing, testing, prescribing, dressing wounds, even acting as gate-keepers, and morticians... It is only in a backward country like this you hear such tripe.
Do you live in nigeria at all . pharmacist, nurses lab technicians do diagnose, prescribe and manage patients and get away with it . some own hospitals where they sit and see patients. I KNOW I HAVE SEEN THIS O .

Govt should wake up to its duty.
A functioning govt cannot allow everything to take place.
Govt should lay down a process n follow up.
Or do 50% privatisation but the unfortuNate part is our govt is not interested in the system especially buhari who has a clinic in UK

My wonderful Naija sibling, am writing about standard healthcare delivery facilities like F.M.C, Orthopaedic Hospitals, Teaching Hospitals, etc. Where in such places did you see such??! Name one of them! If these people do that in their private establishments, that is a different matter entirely, and that will only happen due to the inability of those tasked with regulation. Quacks are everywhere, even in developed countries like U.K and U.SA. Stop straying from the key point of this sensitive discourse!

If a patient does not get better,d doctor takes d blame, nor forking nurse,no forking lab man,no pharmacist.

For clarity sake, medical doctors spent just six(6) years in school while others spent 5(years). The level of training remain the same for One year internship and NYSC. With the Current trend in world standard and Nigeria today, Pharmacist and medical laboratory Scientist have started doctor of Medical laboratory scientists and doctor of pharmacist with 6 years program like medical Doctors before one year internship and NYSC. For those claiming Medical doctor spent 7 years is false. If any delay in their training, that could be due to the school. Such can happen to any school or profession either due to loss of accreditation from council or NUC
The treating is rigorous for all.

Do you know the rigours pharmacist go through before being certified? Same goes to medical health records professionals who renew their certificates every year (either employed or not).

Relate with the physiotherapist, Radiologist and you will know how vital their role is in the hospital.

Don't let us mention nurses.

Being a medical doctor is by choice, just as being a medical laboratory scientist is.

Discrimination shouldn't be that obvious in a government established hospital.

Yes, doctors can earn more from call duty allowances, pharmacist also run call, virtually most of these professionals run one of either overtime, call, and so on. The difference can come from there and not salary scale.

Also if I am a Radiologist, let an experienced radiologist head my department and not a medical doctor.

I am sure if JOHESU keeps quiet as they had been, a medical doctor will head the works department ( if that hasn't been happening already).
A radiologist is a specialist doctor that has completed years of residency after medical school. Please don't confuse a radiographer for a radiologist.

Doctors are just been selfish. JOHESU is not asking for pay parity but equity nd justice. Why do u have to enslave other members of healthcare team. Their pay shouldn't be determined by NMA. Increasing JOHESU's salary does not in anyway affect doctors salary. FG should be fair in dealing with both parties. The self centered minister of health should be sacked

So why aren't the Doctors doing that now. Go to most hospitals now and you'll see them either sitting or gisting, some will even tell you the hospital staffs are on strike. That you even feel the role of Nurses is just to check vital signs speaks volume of why we are in this present situation, because I feel you were taught some nursing processes in your Med school.

Privatization of the entire sector and health administrators and managers of the sector from primary to tertiary level including Health minister open to competent hands drawn from any profession in the health sector. Let there be parity and equity of wages among all healthcare givers.

The JOHESU members on CONHESS 12 who spent more than twenty years before getting there and a fresh graduate who is a doctor will be employed and placed on that same level and not only that doctor salary will be paid higher, this is a great injustice.
*The minister of Health should be removed
*The Administrators or technocrats should be
appointed as the head of our hospitals and let
every profession face their work
* Look out for what is practiced in other parts of the world and do the same here.

I'm in support of team playing and seeing other members of the medical team as other members, not inferior members. However, I don't think it is possible for Doctors to be paid the same amount as other health workers. While a friend of mine was doing his housemanship, he checked a break down of his salary and discovered that his basic salary was just a stipend; what made it the amount it was mostly his "call allowance". He was working from 8am till 4pm everyday and on days when he was on call, he worked from 8am till 12noon the next day. That doesn't exempt him from reporting to work by 8am the day after that. My believe is that Doctors earn their pay. In short, I think their pay is commensurate with the length of hours they work.
As regards the administrative issues, my opinion is that hospitals should be put under proper administrators or appropriate qualification in administrative skills should be required of candidates, be it nurses, doctors, pharmacists.......
Concerning the titles, I believe every profession has it's own hierarchy and the titles at each level. So, as a Consultant is to Doctors, a CNO/SNO is to nurses, a Chief Pharmacist it to Pharmacists etc. These issues are actually simple. The solution is to have all the health professionals and health workers sit together and resolve the issues holistically.
JUST MY OPINION though.
You're wrong about the equivalence of Consultant to CNO. The CNO is a rank attained by years of service same way a doctor without specialist training rises through the normal civil service ranks as CMO, PMO etc. A consultant however is a doctor who has undergone further training of almost a decade called residency to become a highly-skilled specialist.

NMA is not a registered union they are profession body like ICAN or ANAN while JOHESU is a registered trade union under Nigerian law. It is because Nigeria law is not effective that is why an illegal NMA will be dictating to FG because they produce the minister of state for health, minister of health, minister of labour and the HODs in the ministry of health.
The JOHESU went to court on the same issue and they won but they refuse to implement the judgment because the doctors are the one there
