The way you guys tend to spin this Uzoho thing is really becoming ridiculous. Yes, both his detractors and his supporters are becoming ridiculous with this argument. Here are the indisputable facts:

Is Uzoho ready? No, absolutely not.
Do we have a better option than him at the moment? No, not at all.
Conclusion: he's definitely NOT ready; however, he's the best option we have available so we stick with him.

But trying to blame his ALL shortcomings on poor defenders is a spin too far. Bottom line, everybody has to improve including Uzohor. And by the way, anybody who claims that Uzoho is ready because he has played against the likes of Lewandowski, Kane, etc doesn't understand football. It's one thing to face these strikers in a friendly game but facing them at the world cup is totally different ballgame - the scene would be different, the atmosphere would be different, the stakes would be much higher... etc etc. Trust me on that one. Bottom line, we won't know if Uzoho would be ready until he takes the field against Croatia on June 16th.

chrisooblog:
exactly! his reflexes are very good he got a good goalkeeping education rohr too sees that hence the reason he has given him a run of games to build his confidence. i agree the defence has to do more to shield him. when you are constantly under attack from the opposition i don't care if you are de gea, buffon or neuer you will surely concede. ezenwa has been mostly lucky that when he plays the defence covers him well hence the call for him to be in goal.

i laughed at the uzoho not ready to face the best strikers bit someone that faced lewandowski, kane, sterling etc he has improved from when i saw him against poland he will come good but defence has to step up

TheSuperNerd:
Another fantasy formation for Nigeria is this....

Preamble: Obviously 3-5-2 has suddenly become our strongest and most effective formation... this is really beautiful and funny at the same time... I recall when some thought it could never be applied to the Super Eagles... how the times have changed...

Now to other options...

In a 4-2-3-1... play Etebo as LW (left AMF). Victor Moses as RW (Right AMF). Iwobi as central AMF... with Mikel as CM and Ndidi as DM.
The defence will pick itself and leading the attack will be Simy/Ighalo (natural and physically strong center forwards)..... or I could play Iheanaacho instead if I go for more raumdeuter movements than having a less mobile static 9 or big target man.

Why Etebo as LW? That way he can have fluid interchanges with Mikel and Iwobi with Mikel free to take up AM role with Etebo slotting temporarily as CM, when Iwobi drifts to the left sometimes... And the cycle repeats itself to see them return to their starting places.. would also confuse the opposition. Iwobi will be free to roam in this set-up too.

In a 3-4-3.... it would be Idowu as LWB, Ebuehi as RWB, The central midfield two of Mikel and Ndidi.

The fluid forward three of Iwobi (LWF), Iheanacho (Central forward) and Victor Moses (RWF) with Iwobi to join the midfield as he wants and provide more link up channels with Nacho and Moses...

. The three man defence will be Balogun (LCB), Ekong (C-CB), And Omeruo/Awaziem (RCB).

Now this 3-4-3 can also be broken into a variant 3-4-2-1 or even a 3-4-1-2... it depends.
I swear some of us here better pass Rohr.

is uzoho deserving of a place? yes at least based on what i have seen even if it's as the 3rd rookie choice goalkeeper. no one has said he should always have been number 1 going into the world cup because it's unfair to place the burdens of success at the world cup on a 19 year old but the situation is what it is.

good defensive cover gives you confidence if your opponents are restricted to 2-3 chances then your goalkeeper if decent has a good opportunity of keeping a clean sheet. when your defence keeps giving up 5-6 chances per game then i don't know how you want your keeper to cope let alone a 19 year old.

yes we don't know if francis will be ready same for other super eagles who will be going to the world cup for the first time. we can only infer from their performances in the friendlies and from what i have seen of uzoho he looks good with the other experienced players helping him out he could be one of the top young performers in russia

Sir Tbaba1234 will not miss the WC party trust me. He will be back... How can we go into this world cup without our own in-house strongest 11?

Abi you no know say we sef get our own 23-man squad for here? The guys to lead us into that mundial as the in-house analysts... wink So Relax my good man. He will return just in time... Obviously busy with even more projects, work and probably also starving himself of the expected meltdown and negative vibes that was to follow after two consecutive friendly defeats.

He will return.

I salute all d analyst in d house. Some people here should be Pundits for sport associations/channels.

After following d thread for a while, I wanna make my own submissions...
1) The recent results of the super eagles can either make them discover themselves and get better OR down their morale to a worse result.

2) Let's us leave d coach to select his team, we only see them for 90mins. the coach is with them all day,so he can judge better. They play practice game every evening.

3) I'm of the opinion dat coach didn't give some players match experience to actually prove themselves to us(since we couldn't watch them train) or at least get use to naija match experience. We played 4 games and Gk Ezenwa couldn't be given at least 45mins in any of d games, what if Uzoho get injured! and Ezenwa lacking d required exposure and experience(to boost confidence). What if any of the 'Oyinbo wall' get injured!
Awaezim, Omeruo, Simy, Iheanacho, and Musa were deprived of quality match time during d friendlies.

let me not talk too much, I wish them good luck. I'm optimistic things will work out better for the team.

Man City striker Olarenwaju Kayode has joined Shakhtar Donetsk for an undisclosed fee.

The Nigeria international, who was signed by City boss Pep Guardiola in a £3.5m deal from Austria Vienna last August, has signed a five-year deal with the Ukrainian champions.

The 25-year-old forward did not make a single appearance for City as he was immediately loaned out to Spanish club Girona before moving to Shakhtar in a similar deal in March.

Agreed about the goalkeepers. Ezenwa should've gotten at least 45 against the Czech.

Just my thought. Can't we do a Conte on the team and convert Etebo to LWB. He has played in defensive midfield before so he's not a stranger to tackling. Then again we all know he has lots of energy to burn so overlapping won't be a problem and recovering as well. Victor Mosis can sure play that role but something in me makes me feel he won't be happy to do that. Etebo will be more than happy to even be handed a starting shirt. If Valencia and Young can function as full backs and wing backs why not Oghene.

Croatia is a bunch of individually good players with very little cohesion. When they have the ball, they seem not to be able to do much with it.
