sinaj: Read, “Why Nations Fail”, by Daron Acemoglu & James A. Robinson and understand the rapid descent into failed state status which happens when you break down and politicise institutions like the police. Nigerians get intoxicated by seeing their “political enemy” get swallowed by a compromised institution, and I get that. What I don’t get is the almost sworn refusal to see the bigger picture— which will definitely come. It happened in Somalia. The CAR. South Sudan. Nigeria will not be different. No “prayer” can stop that. 1 Like |

madridsta007: So many things come together to make a nation fail. Our police is corrupt and has always been, so it's not like it's political. But I would like to know if, when politicians are linked to crimes, they shouldn't be treated the same as the common man. Or the country will fail if we punish our leaders as they are above the law? In this peculiar situation, supporting the lawmaker is the wrong choice and would inevitably lead the country to a Somalia and Sudan situation. But when the citizens see that the law is enforced even if it is a bit flawed, maybe just maybe we can shift our implosion just a day forward. |

alsudan: That's why they call themselves "the elite". Because people like you just love a class system where the populace is paradoxically subservient to the civil servants. Your sentiments, in a sane society, would reverse the artificial hierarchy and instead wonder what would happen to a civil servant if a citizen is thus mishandled. No wonder they trample on you lot and pose with their expensive Lamborghinis and Ferraris and thumb their noses at you plebians. 2 Likes 3 Shares |

Kusetic: I do not care about any lawmaker. I think those who are emotionally attached to a law maker or leadership, in most postcolonial societies, have something which they benefit from them, and understandably so. I do not care about any lawmaker because they don’t feed me and can’t at all. I’m concerned about institutions— when they crash, believe me, the effects are normally irreversible. It is slow, but when they do, they’ve crashed. The social effects too— nobody seems concerned about that. The Doctor, trained in Nigeria, looks around and sees a compromised security service. He goes online and, in 3-6 months, moves to the U.K. His colleagues move too. Suddenly, a functional hospital closes and the indirect and direct jobs connected to it, goes. Infant mortality and diseases ramp up. It is a vicious cycle... Do you think investors will want to come to such a Country? Who ultimately suffers? The elites? Of course not. Unless we want to pretend, we know the clamp on Dino is politically motivated. Unless we want to pretend which Nigerians are good at anyway. I would have applauded the Police if they had, as it’s done under a democracy, issued a warrant of arrest gotten from the courts— and then move to arrest him if he fails to show up. Sadly, what they’ve done is simply Gestapo tactics obtainable in a totalitarian state. Because they, the police, are compromised. I have written academic papers on this, so I think I know what I’m saying. When institutions are compromised, believe me, it’s a slow but sure walk to failed state status. That is what Nigerians in Nigeria, emotionally caught up in the moment, fail to realise. I’m more saddened that those who are educated enough to know that this, in the long run, isn’t good, are pretentiously laughing. 2 Likes |

jaxxy:What exactly are you talking about?... "Not running"?.... Are you aware the same man was summoned by a court but he bluntly refused to show up?... Are you aware the same man was invited by the police for a while now but he bluntly refused to show up?... And here you are, asking me why the police had to go to his house to get him?....What exactly do you mean by "not running"?.... A man who refused to open his doors for over a week? If he weren't a big man, would the police bother to stand outside and BEG him to open his doors?... wouldn't they have just broken down the doors and tied him with a rope after serious brutalising?.... If he were a common man, would you be here defending his blatant disregard for court and police invitations?... Could this be typical black man servile mentality where you believe he should be given god-like treatment because he's a senator/big man?... Na wa oh! 2 Likes |

obailala: Yes Dino is wrong and same as the police. That is my point. This same police has disregarded court orders in favor of Dino and also disregarded invitations by the senate. Who hold the police accountable now? The people who should obey the law are actually the ones behaving like Demi gods. If the police were credible or professional Dino wouldn’t have to be in hiding or disregard their invitations. Do u uphold the law by disregarding it? |

madridsta007: You people reading meanings to every arrest are the problem of this country. Should we be wondering about the motive for the arrest or whether Dino is guilty? If not that people have become blinded by their party affiliations, why should they be more concerned about motive than how the accused pleads. It shouldn't matter to you whether Dino is arrested on election day. What should matter to you is whether he is guilty or not. Buhari arrests this person, you all shout that Buhari arrested him because the person is PDP. You call it witch hunting. Shouldn't it matter more to you that at least one corrupt person has been arrested? Even if Buhari is witch hunting, is he witch hunting innocent politicians? For me, the motive does not matter. Whether a politician is arrested for electoral reasons does not concern me. What concerns me is whether he is guilty or not. If he is guilty, I'm happy. This is how Nigerians should think. Party politics is killing Nigerians. Even Saraki, whose family impoverished Kwara state, is a god to some people simply because he appears to dislike Buhari who they love to hate. |

madridsta007: Actually they have a warrant for his arrest, they invited him for questioning and he refused to show up. Personally i detest all politicians because they flout the laws of our nation and they purposely destroy the institutions we have for their own benefits and many of us the citizens support them blindly in destroying the system just cause of pittance. So we can talk all we want, until the average citizens refuse to be sentimental in situations like this, we are going nowhere 1 Like |
