Clerverly:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the use of card readers for the general election.

In a suit filed before the federal high court in Abuja, the party asked the court to restrict INEC from postponing elections in any polling unit as a result of a malfunctioning card reader.

INEC had said elections in the case where a smart card reader malfunctions, voting will be suspended till a new card reader arrives, or postponed till the next day if a replacement is not available by 2pm.

In the suit dated February 11 a copy of which was sent to TheCable, the party argued that INEC’s insistence — in its regulations and guidelines for the conduct of the elections — that a voter’s identity must be confirmed by the card reader is inconsistent with provisions of the electoral act.

The paragraph states: “10. (a) In accordance with Section 49 (2) of the Electoral Act, a person intending to vote shall be verified to be the same person on the Register of Voters by use of the Smart Card Reader (SCR) in the manner prescribed in these Regulations and Guidelines.

“(b) Any poll official who violates the provision of Clause 10 (a) shall be deemed to be guilty of an offence and shall be liable to prosecution.”

The party said this particular regulation does not align with section 49 of the electoral act. The section states: “(1) A person intending to vote with his voter’s card, shall present Issue of ballot papers himself to a Presiding Officer at the polling unit in the constituency in which his name is registered with his voter’s card.

Oh I see. Smart move by pdp.
Try to get court injunction barring inec from the use of card reader just very close to the Election. So that there is no time for the court or INEC to consider the case. But the injunction has already been secured.

No doubt, this may be one of the things referred to on the 5th Feb letter to Dr. Saraki (see below). Dubai strategy I deeded.
No court in the land will give such injunction.

PDP Prayer: Nobody should be denied chance to vote on the basis that the Smart Card Reader can't read his PVC as long as his name is on the voter's register...

How does that translate to stopping use of Card reader? Should people be disenfranchised because of some technological lapses?
Will you keep quiet?

You are a serial liar. The day INEC announced, incident form will be used , when the card reader fails to authenticate the Pvc , didn't you cry wolf in this platform?

I have sat back to watch how the PDP e-rats have taken over nairaland dishing out series of propaganda back to back eg tinubu, oshomole made path to atiku.

The propaganda had been carefully kept to be bombarded in swaying opinions, while the pigs are already having their "victory lap" I do hope when they would be magmanimous in defeat when the inec brings them to default setting.

Like I always say, let wait for Saturday when reality kicks in

That is the gist. Saturday is around the corner. Going by what we read on nairaland and other social media platforms Atiku is the president in waiting. But things might be different in reality.

They have bought thousands of PVC prepared to rig the election, this will not work. The use of PVC most be strictly followed.

No wonder they have been burning the INEC offices in the SS and the SE. A container load of card readers was burnt just days ago all in effort to prevent the INEC from using the card readers

Get up to a million in Delta? Seems you don't know how they're canvassing for Buhari in Delta because they believe Ogboru stands a chance only when Buhari wins his election. Did you believe Magnus Abe could win that rerun election then? That's what would happen there come Saturday. Results are gonna be written there as usual. As for Anambra, there's no way a candidate can get up to a million vote there.

Semantics is very important in this case. PDP isn't against card reader that the party introduced but only saying nobody should be disenfranchised

If PDP prayer is granted, they will dump the use of card readers completely in the south east and south south to pave way for rigging by casting maximum votes like 95% voters turn out. It has happened before when Jonathan claimed that three different card readers couldn't scan his Fingerprint

This is what they are thinking of using to declare 1.5 million votes in Rivers, e.t.c PDP rigged the 2015 elections in many SS states in 2015 though. I keep laughing at those making bogus projections for PDP on Feb. 16, election. There wont be any where PDP will score up to 1 million votes .. PDP will be lucky to score 900,000 votes in any state

What the article is saying and the OP interpretation as well as the title are not the same.

This is just silly propaganda. And the OP has still not gotten it: APC kinda propaganda no longer works.

PDP is asking the court to prevent INEC from postponing elections where INEC itself cannot guarantee a card reader as will likely be the case in Anambra. . And they are very correct. Imagine Anambra been postponed cos some persons went to deliberately burn card readers needed for the election.

PDP is saying no to Osun type rigging.

I agree with them
