I guess it is an automatic gearbox. To be honest with you, automatic gearbox repair needs an expert because it's principle of operation is complicated. Auto gearbox work base on d principles of clutches, bands n hydraulic body system. Many factors can lead to this particular problem which include internal issues like low pressure in d hydraulic system, a faulty gear synchroniser, worn out clutches etc. Another suspected area is d gearbox electronic control unit. My advice is that, u should locate a competent auto technician with d knowledge of vehicle computer aided diagnostics, so that he can conduct a thorough check on d system to ascertain d electronic control unit condition before any other thing is done on it. But I most say that majority of d problems of auto gearbox is internal issues which simply means u need to change d gearbox because here in Nigerian I have not come across a competent gearbox rebuilt technician.

Bro pls how did u drain the whole oil, BN pls advice
Fjnn:
This might sound funny. I had a similar issue with my Honda baby boy. Guess what solved the problem. I drained all the gear box oil and replaced same with visco 2000, I mean visco 2000 engine oil. I used it for close to a year before changing it again with visco 2000 engine oil. You must maintain using visco 2000 and nothing else.

I got a Honda Accord baby boy recently and the gear shift is draining me off cash... It delays before shifting from one gear to another. Lagos mechanics have scammed me within the last two months and I'm dead broke right now. I need to move the car to Ilorin for business...

One said it's a rewire's work, rewire did it still the problem persist please what do I need to do I'm a novice please experts should please tell me what the problem could be and what can be done.

That is what happen when you put the wrong type of gear oil in your gear box.
Open the bonnet of your car and bring out the dip stick you use in gauging the gear oil, check the body of the dip stick very well you will see the name of the gear oil you are supposed to use. Immediately you put the right oil the gear shift will become normal.
Nigeria mechanic be like "oga no worry I know what I'm doing" whereas they know nothing. They will just go and put any cheap transmission oil in your gear box and your car will be begin to develop problems

Your comments used to make sense most times but you goofed this time.

For your info, Honda engine is more durable than Toyota engine by far. Honda only had a design issue with their Honda Accord 1999 - 2006 which causes the ball joint and shaft to pull off if not changed at obvious signs it gives.

They corrected it a bit in Accord 2007 aka Discussion continue and in 2008 Evil Spirit and finally solved it from 2009 Accord models.

Have you heard any Honda car having a serious engine issue NO!

The leg pull off issue doesn't cost much to maintain if you truly bought the car with your money and also observant and have good maintenance culture....so stop making it look like Honda is a bad car brand when it has been competing with all known car brands all over the world, talking that makes you sound naive and uninformed undecided

If you don't like a car brand, don't buy it but don't bad mouth it because you can't even design a simply pulley system talk more of a whole car.

Also for your info, I have owned and used Mercedes, Kia, Honda, and Toyota and I tell you, all cars come with their own baggage, all you need is to have a good maintenance culture and you can drive any car without issues.

And before you talk thrash, I am a trained, certified engineer with years of experience in automotive engines, so when I speak, you listen cool

You just took the words outta my mind about this richdad guy.. Thought his contributions are based on maturity, He really goofed.

Can the failed sensor be repaired or replaced And at what cost approximately?

Lol of course yea. My Guy's car was bringing fuel from the exhaust, and also won't rev more than 2 hence it won't move. After so many trials and errors, they even removed the gear and yet didn't see what the probe was, this is how I suggested they use OBD, lol and behold, we bought the sensor at 2k. And fixed it till today no issue. Some sensors are just to remove and clean up.

You need to run a scan on that vehicle. The problem might just be some bad solenoid from the Gear valve body.

I once had a similar experience, a lots of those mechanics are scammers. One said l need to do scanning with 10k then work on the gearbox which will cost me 35k. And he said no guarantee. To cut the long story short, it was a mechanic in oyinbo (maxwell) who said that problem was gear switch. He did it for just 5k. 3 years after its still in perfect condition.

Bro please can you share the contact of the Maxwell guy?

I had the same problem with my Isuzu rodeo. I drove it to an automatic gear repairer. He bluntly said the only solution is to buy a tokunbo auto gear. I did and there is no regret since then.

That's what people who can't diagnose say

Take the car to Oyingbo and get it inspected, if the gearbox is not salvageable you would be told. Livinhubby can help you arrange a replacement. The baby boy is a sweet car with auto transmission design error. Therefore, you will enjoy the transmission but expect it to go bad after some 60,000 miles that's if you got a good one.

Secondly, stick to DW1 for the installation as well as for subsequent servicing.

Best of luck

So how do we explain all the ones in the USA that do 200k without issue?

I would try to fix the issue in this order.
1. Change the gear oil. If it continues...
2. Change the gear switch and it's related sensors. If that does not work.....
3. Check the air flow system.... All the way from the inflow (air filter and air flow metre) to the outflow (exhaust manifold, catalytic converters) make sure nothing is blocked, especially in the outflow part. If there is no problem there then
4. Replace the gear box

First off, have it scanned to see if it's electrical or mechanical faults. If the retrieved codes are P2708, P2710 shift solenoid and other related codes it's electrical, then you can get a car wiring specialist (rewire) to check out but most of them don't know about these valve body related problems, so be careful.

Have you drained the oil since you bought it?
if yes, what sort of oil did you put in it?
it could be something as little as oil change.
