Nigeria Begins Export of Military Hardware Erwan de Cherisey, Paris - Jane's Defence Weekly Nigerian defence manufacturer Proforce has signed a contract for the sale of 20 of its new Ara 2 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles. Ara 2 MRAP The company did not wish to disclose the name of the customer, only acknowledging that the purchase was made by an African country. However, a source with knowledge of the deal told Jane’s that the client is Chad. According to the same source, the deal was finalised in June 2019 and deliveries are expected to begin before the end of the year in successive batches of five vehicles. Chadian interest in the Ara 2 was reportedly prompted when Chadian President Idriss Déby observed Nigerian Police Proforce PF2 armoured vehicles in Abuja during a visit last year. Talks were then held in Chad regarding the Chadian Army’s need for MRAPs, which eventually led to the capital N’Djamena’s decision to procure the Ara 2. https://www.janes.com/article/89877/nigeria-s-proforce-gets-first-mrap-export-order 1 Like 3 Shares |

At the rate we're going, I see us becoming the greatest manufacturing nation in Africa by the middle of this century. Hopefully Ajaokuta steel will be completed finally, and then we would really take off. 10 Likes 3 Shares |

Let's invest similar interest in our rail transport system. Our roads are over stretched/used |

galadima77: NIGERIA: The construction of a rolling stock rail assembly plant at Kajola in Ogun state was launched when Vice-President Yemi Osinbanjo attended a groundbreaking ceremony on November 9. Nigerian rolling stock plant groundbreaking ceremony Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said the plant on the Lagos – Ibadan railway would be the first of its kind in Nigeria. It is to be used to assemble locomotives, coaches, wagons and diesel multiple-units for domestic use, as well as for export to other countries in West Africa. The plant is being built under a March 2018 agreement between the Ministry of Transportation and the local subsidiary of China Civil Engineering Construction Corp. The Chinese company selected the site for the plant, which it said would undertake production processes including welding, assembly, painting and testing, with a capacity of 500 vehicles per year. Nigerian rolling stock plant groundbreaking ceremony The first batch of wagons to be built would be used for freight services on the 1 435 mm gauge Lagos — Ibadan and Abuja — Kaduna routes, with passenger vehicles to follow. ‘By linking our ports to rail lines and now, building the rolling stock locally, import and export business within and outside of Africa’s largest market will be completely transformed’, said Osinbanjo. He said a commitment to local recruitment ‘affirms the President’s directives on prioritising Nigerians and Nigerian businesses in the innovation, production and procurement of engineering projects.’ https://www.railwaygazette.com/business/construction-of-nigerian-rolling-stock-factory-begins/55094.article |

Rosskiki: OK... www.janes.com. One of my favourite sites when it comes to military hardware issues. They are good. You should totally check out their armed forces ranking for each continent/region. Every single military force in the Sahel should make it a point of duty to get mine resistant tanks/vehicles. It will definitely go a long way. The modus operandi of these so-called "jihadis" calls for it. They lay landmines and lie in wait for an unsuspecting military patrol to bump into the boobytrap after which they unleash untold mayhem on the crew of the unfortunate patrol team. The last incident in Mali left 24 soldiers stone-dead. I think they[Sahelian militaries] might also want to consider deploying eyes in the sky. Like deploying a small drone in the skies ahead of the patrol teams. The US military did the same in Iraq when the issue of IED and mine attacks on troops became incessant. These things work with just batteries and cellphones or tablets. They have to get creative. Nice one. 4 Likes 1 Share |

There's no two ways of looking at it. We're on the path to industrialisation. Hopefully we can increase power generation and distribution substantially over the next few years. I trust Mr President to find a solution. Wait and see. 1 Like |

The quality on the ARA seems to beat that put into the NA-built Igirigi and Ezugwu. That is testament to the fact that the sector should rightly be the playground of private firms with a reputation to guard and a business to nurture. If we had stable power and a working steel industry, we would have been making light [turboprop] aircrafts on an industrial scale, this I know for sure. Proforce and Innoson are doing well in relation to the circumstances that they operate in. Also, government should divest its interest in DICON and allow competent private investors to take over that sector as it is the practice in Europe and the U.S.—Lockheed, Boeing, TAI, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Almaz-Antey, Airbus, General dynamics etc. Without power, steel and well-thought-out policies, gains like this would fast erode. We should copy the South African model here, though I'd expect us to go farther than they have gone and be more aggressive. 2 Likes |

Rosskiki: This is key. Too many great things happening for us to frustrate with a moribund power sector. Personally think PMB will focus on power, as a priority, in 2020 and beyond with Nigeria now out of recession and growing. Without trying to skew this towards partisan politics, the first section in bold below shows what Saraki and the PDP deliberately cost Nigeria that all but the best-informed are aware of when they see the senseless and ignorant attack against PMB and the APC. Still the APC forged ahead to continue steadying the ship despite PDP and Saraki/Dogara-led legislative sabotage of Nigeria. When those who make the effort to keep informed say they want a supportive legislative arm, because of the hell we saw from the Saraki/PDP led Senate that was detrimental to Nigeria's development, ignorant haters of the Government will say we want a "rubber stamp" Senate. Is a saboteur Senate better then? Anyone who appreciates the way out for Nigeria will understand all arms of Government, especially the executive and legislative arms, must work for the same agenda, thank God we have that today under Lawan and Gbajabiamila, and not at cross-purpose as was the case under Saraki and Dogara. The second bolded section simply attest to what OP is saying with this thread. The third bolded section just shows PMB is no dullard as he appreciates the implications of the appalling trade figures which show we have terrible trade deficits with others issues like the border closure can reverse via giving our own manufacturer and farmers the support to grow output to satisfy demand within our border and then beyond it. We need to stop using our size as "one of the biggest markets in the world" to benefit others only. Key strategy is to meet local demand as much as possible and then kick on to export more so we have a positive trade deficit with most nations we trade with. Nigeria accounts for nearly 20% of continental GDP and about 75% of the West Africa economy. Despite this dominance, its exports to rest of Africa are estimated at 12.7%, and only 3.7% of total trade is within the Economic Community of West African States. https://www.afdb.org/en/countries/west-africa/nigeria/nigeria-economic-outlook Nigeria Economic Outlook 2 Likes 1 Share |

I can't believe people are still expecting stable electricity supply in this country. As long as this greedy papas are in power (PDP or APC), the hope y'all have in them pertaining to stable electricity should be dumped in the sea. They own the oil wells. which means in other for them to make gains through selling their oil (specifically petrol for our generators), stable electricity should be kept at bay. (If they give you stable liggt, who one buy their petrol? |

The power discos should be retrieved from the thieves that PDP sold them to before any real industrial revolution can begin in this country. Nigeria has limitless potential to become Africa's and a global leading economy but we must fix this basic but nagging issue of power supply. Take back the Discos. |

Re: Chadian Army Buys 20 Armoured Vehicles From Proforce Nigeria by Nobody: 2:08pm On Nov 21, 2019 |
Ezewuzie01: I agree but these guys have watertight contracts that means they can bog the Government down in costly legal battles for years literally. The only option is to buy them out of their contracts very expensively or find grounds to establish a case for breach of contract which the Government know can 100% be upheld in Court. This may then pave way for legal termination of contract. No easy way out with the slavery PDP sold us into over the concession of DISCOs into the hands of undeserving cronies and fraudulent fronts. |
Re: Chadian Army Buys 20 Armoured Vehicles From Proforce Nigeria by Nobody: 2:11pm On Nov 21, 2019 |
Ezewuzie01: Smart dude. This is indeed the plan. There can be no fuel subsidy anymore when local demand for PMS, kerosine, Gas, diesel is met by local supply 100% and not a single drop of crude leaves our shore to be refined abroad. The Dangote refinery will meet local demand completely with surplus to export also. Gas export alone will grow many times it current volume when the Dangote refinery is operational. 1 Like |

candidtalk:There are provisions in the NERC act that gives the NERC power to terminate their contracts if they don't meet certain thresholds. NERC has already given them an ultimatum to explain themselves for breaches noticed. We can only hope it results in termination of their contracts for the good of this country. |

Ezewuzie01: You are right but many make excuses shaded in grey to excuse their obvious incompetence. Aim is to frustrate the Government to buy them out. I understand most are even fed up owning the DISCOs because it is harder work than anticipated and less lucrative as their greed led them to believe. I too hope the Government find a way to get rid of these leeches without being extorted. |

Obdk: Otedola left the oil business because Dangote refinery is set to either put them out of business or drastically reduce their profits. Otedola did not invest in Dangote refinery, he invested his money, $350 million in power generation company, Geregu Power plc which he acquired in 2013 through a subsidiary of Forte Oil Plc, Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited. In 2017, Otedola invested an additional $94 million in the power generation plant. |
