A lot of people are used to complaining about various commercial banks in Nigeria especially the low income earners as regards the dubious charges perpetrated by these Banks.

So I want to ask, which Bank is more considerate in terms of their charges for savings account currently?

Don't forget to tell us your reasons.

Let's talk business

Standard chartered, no charge whatsoever! After two months you'll meet exactly the same amount you left in there. NB: I'm not a marketer, I have accounts with access and stanbic but I still prefer to have money saved in standard chartered bank account + standard chartered interest offering is good

I have accounts in the following banks:
1. UBA
2. ECOBANK
3. GTB
4. ACCESS
5. POLARIS
6. STANBIC IBTC
7. STANDARD CHARTERED
8. DIAMOND OF OLD

I Prefer No 7 & 6.
You can’t use standard chartered or stanbic and go wrong particularly standard chartered.

They don’t even charge u for using other banks’ ATMs.

Yes o. Monthly. I was surprised the first time I got the interest alert. No bank (GTB, FBN and access) has ever paid me interest for keeping my money with them. Now, once my salary enters my FBN account, I just wire it to my zenith bank account

None! They're all thieves

Although firstbank paid me 4k on interest capitalized on 1.1m in 30 days. So even if they keep charging me, their interest will cover for it.
Try invest ur money in stanbicmutual funds, u will definitely get more than 4k in a month

I would say Ecobank, I receive credit alert from them on my savings account despite the fact that I hardly ever use the account.
My most active accounts are in Access bank which I have two accounts there.
I have never ever received any credit alert from Access bank..... Only debit. I was recently debited for the stamp duty charge three times and only credited back twice. I'm still waiting for my N50 balance.
Ecobank rarely debit my account.

Most of us dont know how savings account operates. Most bank in Nigeria will not give you interest on your savings account if you withdrawal more than 3 times in a month. Therefore, if you do that you will not get interest but get debit alert for sms charge on the transactions carried out on the account. For the accounts you dont use but leave money there, you will get interest and you wont get debit alert for sms charge too. meanwhile interest rate in all the banks remain the same which is 4.2% per annum for now.

If you opt for GTB savings, open it with a regulatory Id card, get your naira MasterCard, activate your internet banking, get your token device and opt for only email notifications for transactions. This way there are no fees on all your transactions except inter bank transfers. I hope to open a zenith savings account soon. UBA, Access have some unreasonable charges. E.g stamp duty is expressly stated to be charged from current account hence savings account is exempted yet access would still charge you

OP, try Standard Chartered Bank, I swear you'll not regret. They don't have much branches though, but they are just the best. No unreasonable charges. No SMS charges. No maintainance fee and other unreasonable charges. I didn't go to their branch before I opened one and ever since I opened it in March, I've been enjoying it.

If you still want to make it in life, avoid Access Bank, them wicked. The deductions on my account last week brought back my insomnia issue. Even with their damage control Memo, am yet to recover.

I use access and gtb. Gtb staff are very rude especially their women. I am heading to zenith now
I can bear witness to this.

I went there to withdraw my 3k BMC allowance but the female manager was rude. She was more interested in big customers with 100s of millions in their acc.

GTB condition is that you shoud not do up to 4 withdrawals per month in savings account in order to earn interest. That's why it's called savings account. I hope to try zenith bank soon.
