BusinessRe: GTB Bank And Their Checking Balance Rule by 080Nigeria(m): 5:31pm On Jul 19, 2010
I love GTB. It's been my bank for quite some time now. However, even I must admit that GTB is now experiencing the 'problems' of growth. Now, their services are not as fast as they were before. Sometimes, I have to queue for very long to do anything in the bank. I have been trying to get a new ATM card for close to 6 months. Payments are not posted immediately in many branches. Sometimes, they are not even posted until like 6-7 hours later.

As I said earlier, I love GTB. But I am posting this because I really think they need to strategize to solve the 'problems' coming with growth if they don't want to lose good and loyal customers. angry angry angry
PoliticsRe: Monarch Sacked As Journalists Are Freed by 080Nigeria(m): 5:24pm On Jul 19, 2010
The police had no hand in the release of the victims. I don't think they deserve the praise they have been getting. That is not to say I don't appreciate our policemen. Considering how terrible their arms are and how under-equipped they are, we can't really expect much from them. Besides, they are just reflecting the general Nigerian society.
CrimeHow To Stop Policemen From Collecting 40 Naira Bribe by 080Nigeria(op): 9:59am On Jul 12, 2010
If you travel within the Southwest part of Nigeria, you will be embarrassed at the number of police checkpoints on the road. These policemen collect at least 40 Naira from commercial drivers every single day.

I know that it has gradually become a norm in Nigeria. However, I am bothered for a few reasons:

1. The number of checkpoints (or bribe points) keeps increasing- there are more than 20 on Lagos-Ibadan expressway alone and the drivers have to pay all of them.
2. You can't question these policemen. They will just delay the driver (and passengers) under the guise of some inexistent legal misconduct.
3. The policemen are getting more bold by the day. When they started, they used to collect the money in secret. Now, they collect right in everyone's presence (and even give change when necessary!)
4. The policemen have been known to shoot at times if some drivers tried to escape.
5. Finally and most unfortunately, Nigerians are so used to it that nobody is bothered anymore. Passengers even encourage the drivers to 'pay their dues' on time so that they won't be delayed. The government and Police chiefs are aware but they prefer to just turn a blind eye- they are doing worse in their own offices anyway.

Nigerians, I find it really depressing. What can we do? cry cry cry cry cry cry

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Asks For Akingbola's Arrest, Extradition by 080Nigeria(m): 10:55am On Jul 10, 2010
naijaking1:
Nigeria is a country of big irony. They cry for investments, foreign capitals, etc, and yet nobody in our country's economic machinary seems to understand anything about building an industry, creating wealth, and producing jobs. When I left Nigeria, there was no Intercontinental, Oceanic, or even Zenith banks. These institutions emerged thanks to the hardwork and enterpreneurial spirits of Akingbola, Ibru, Opiah, and others.

Then somewhere along the line, their success which was actually the success of our free enterprise system attracted a puritanical attention from people who were amazed at the magnitude and impact of their success. So, instead of thoroughly investigating them for any possible wrong doings, prosecuting them, and then punishing them after conviction, we simply do everything in reverse, because that's how it works in the jungle our country. First we punish, convict, prosecute, and then use the state apparatus like EFCC to investigate, investigate, and investigate them to death. Is there a more severe punishment for people like Ibru and Akingbola(who have not been convicted of any crimes), and whose only "crime" had been minor personal differences with Sanusi, than the loss of their jobs, properties, and now reputation?

I say they have not been convicted, because if at the end of the day, the courts fail to agree with Sanusi that these people are criminals deserving to be shot at Bar Beach, can we effectively compensate them for all their losses?

This question is pertinent as Nigeria positions it's self to attract more foreign and domestic investors. Should all it takes to jeopardize one's investments in Nigeria simply be a change in government or leadership of the CBN? Before detractors in his forum go out of their way to read me upside-down, let me say that corruption, proven corruption, not alleged corruption does not and should not be tolerated now and in the future at all.

Creating wealth has been likened to making suasages, it's not pretty, but it's necessary.
From the Rotschilds, to the Rockefellas, to the JP Morgans, history is strewn with individuals who built large business empires doing what would have earned them a place in Kirikiri prison if they are in today's contemporary Nigeria. As Nigerians and their policy makers decide on the type of economy they want, it needs to be categorically clear to Nigerians at home and in dispora, foreigners and other investors that their hardwork, money, and reward would be safe in Nigeria no matter who is at the helm.

If not, Nigeria's cries and pleadings for investment would continue to fall on deaf and scared ears, because nobody would want to experience our reverse system of justice.
My guy, I support you whole heartedly. The government is preying on the ignorance of the poor. What I mean by that is this: the average Nigerian will be happy to hear that a rich man who is "stealing Nigeria's money" has been caught. But I would like us to know that while I DO NOT SUPPORT EMBEZZLEMENT, I also know that these victims- Akingbola and others- are no worse than those who caught them. Sanusi's policies have been very irregular and detrimental to this nation. He can't claim to have done half of the positive things Akingbola has done for this country. Akingbola built a company which is one of Nigeria's biggest. Sanusi has built nothing. Before anyone blames Akingbola, remember that he is responsible for the jobs of many Nigerians.

He may have made his mistakes AND I DEFINITELY DO NOT WISH TO EXCUSE THEM. But I wouldn't conclude that he is a criminal yet. I am an Economist and I've been studying banking systems in other countries in the world. Guess what? They all have their dirty linen. But they don't bring them out in the open, at least not in a way that would do more harm than good to the country. I hate corruption with a passion. But I hate jungle, uncivilized justice even more!

Just kidding. But it takes more than just prayers to obtain results. They should have planned better and trained harder. God will not do for man what man must do for himself!

I don't think the policy will destroy Yahoo Yahoo. But I do think it's commendable that he is trying to do something. Yahoo Yahoo is costing us more (as a nation and as individuals who want to do genuine business on the internet) than we know.
BusinessRe: Google Adsence. Is It Real?! by 080Nigeria(m): 3:50pm On Jun 15, 2010
One way to make it from the internet (and I guess that goes for adsense) is to love being online. Love the internet, love your blog/website. Post with dedication. There is no short cut.
BusinessRe: How Can I Make $1m In 1 Year? by 080Nigeria(m): 3:42pm On Jun 15, 2010
Pray hard, fast 24/7, go to church, You can also try some money making rituals grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

It's possible. But I believe that before shooting for a million dollars, try something more achievable. Then, aim higher after reaching the first goal. It may not be possible to take a lift to the top floor of a building. But as long as there are stairs, you'll get there- with hard work and persistence!
BusinessRe: Pls Teach Me How To Make Money On The Internet by 080Nigeria(m): 3:35pm On Jun 15, 2010
My only advise is that you should not put your money where your eyes can not reach.

Hey, don't take that literally. What I'm saying is: get through knowledge about something before putting money into it. There is a lot of information available about online businesses. Read through them. Most are free!
BusinessRe: Wha Business Can I Start With N5000? by 080Nigeria(m): 3:23pm On Jun 15, 2010
Don't put N5000 online. It's not advisable assuming that that is all you have at the moment. Buy something you can see, like recharge cards. Do it the old and low risk way. You may be surprised at the long term results if you are consistent.

PoliticsRe: Prostitution Banned In Abuja by 080Nigeria(m): 3:12pm On Jun 15, 2010
I am totally against prostitution. But I do think that Nigeria is a free country and it is not the most important of our problems, so why concentrate efforts on it? It would be a good idea when our public office holders are accountable enough and governors stop marrying 13 year olds in the name of religion. Until then, any attempt to curb prostitution would only be clamping down on the poor and defenseless. Don't we know about the atrocities our so-called leaders commit?
Christianity EtcRe: Pay Debt Or Pay Tithe by 080Nigeria(m): 3:05pm On Jun 15, 2010
I think that paying your tithe is very important. However, it will make no difference if you pay it just to fulfill righteousness. Equally important is helping the needy, devotion to your country and refusing to bribe the police grin shocked cool lipsrsealed grin

Well, they got what they expected. I may be wrong, but it looked to me like they played as if they did not expect to win. Quite frankly, Argentina was not much better. If Nigeria had seen winning as a possibility, they would have won. They were too intimidated.
SportsRe: Amodu Would Have Done Better Than Laggerback Against Argentina by 080Nigeria(m): 2:49pm On Jun 15, 2010
I don't think it's really about the coach. I think we have a problem of trying to achieve good results with little effort. No foreign coach can work a miracle if that does not change.

WebmastersRe: Nigerian Web Hosting Experience by 080Nigeria(m): 12:49pm On May 19, 2010
Dual Core:
I am hoping the "Plans" concept, fonts and style are the only things you intend to copy off my site (www.trudigits.com). Do more than that and we'll have to be talking to your Datacenter who would know what to do about copyright infringements.
This isn't a threat, just giving you heads up seeing as your site isn't complete yet and you may be working on completing it.
I think that is a very unfair accusation and is rather low of you. The only similarities I see are that I bill in NGN (is that a crime?) and that just like yours, my plan also excludes domain name registration (and in case you don't know, that is only because it is easier to integrate with my billing system).

In case you did not notice, our plans are different. That website may be new, but I didn't just start the hosting business yesterday. I have been offering my clients my packages for years now. So if you feel it looks like yours, you should know that there is no monopoly of ideas. Stop trying to gain credit by discrediting others. In all truth, I have visited your site before, but never during the design of my own site and never with the intention of copying it. Besides, until now, I only visited it onceeeee!
