As for UNN being federal project, without Zik there wouldn’t have been anything called UNN today. If you know how Nigeria is configured you would be sincere enough to know that Zik was the singular reason that school came there in the first place because of his position as the president and firstly Governor General of Nigeria.

Lemme go back to geography. Onitsha is the most strategically located city in Igbo land. The city before the coming of Asaba and Anambra international airports had access through land and sea, there is no other Nigerian city with such access except Lagos and Port harcourt.

Due to the strategic location of Onitsha, it played a major role during the colonial era, that was why the first Igbo bible literature was first written in Onitsha dialect because the city was the first place the Europeans first berthed when they arrived in the eastern region.

Onitsha is the only Igbo city that links all the regions in Nigeria. It links SW, north and Niger Delta.

Nsukka was considered by Zik because, firstly Zik was a detribalized Nigerian that saw everywhere in Nigeria and Igboland in particular as his constituency, not because any federal government knows anywhere called Nsukka prior to Zik bringing the school there. Without Zik backing there wouldn’t be anything called UNN today. For you to get anything in Nigeria it depends on who you know , and that was exactly what played out when Zik took that initiative .

Now lets look at the Nigerian map, Onitsha as a city has no direct connection with the Southwest, It has no direct connection with Northern Nigeria and most importantly it does not have a close state that brings all the region together in one.

Now this is why I think Nsukka was considered the best location, Zik never want the university to leave the Eastern region and at the same time wants it to be accessible to all Nigerians.

Kogi state borders Enugu state from Enugu North senatorial zone which also serves as Nsukka's location. From Kogi state alone you can access the South South through Edo State, you can access the South West through Ekiti and Ondo state, you can access the North through Nassarawa, Abuja, Niger, Kwara and Benue and you can access the South East through Enugu. All this states has a boundary with Kogi state and Kogi state is not far from Nsukka where the University is situated.

How’s timid nsukka that hasn’t seen civilization even after 50yrs of having UNN more accessible than Onitsha where the missionaries first established western education and missionaries(Catholic and Anglican) in the entire eastern Nigeria, a city that was mostly occupied and used by European businessmen and women that were importing and exporting during colonial era , that was even long before Nigeria had independence. Zik was a detribalised Nigerian, that’s why he did what he did. Zik was the only nationalist that was detribalized among all the founding fathers. There’s no Igbo city more strategically located than Onitsha, because it’s the link between eastern Nigeria to western, southern and northern Nigeria both by land and sea . The truth is that Zik wasn’t a tribalist like most Nigerian politicians today .

When Zik was citing UNN, he put into consideration that UNN was the first indigenous University in Nigeria and needed to be accessible by all Nigerians. that was why Nsukka was used. Nsukka is more accessible to Nigerians when compared to Onitsha. If the University must be situated in the South East, then Nsukka is the only suitable location. Onitsha is down south, Aba is down south, Nsukka is the only location that allows the project to remain in the South East and also accessible to Nigerians.

There is a reason it is called University of Nigeria and not University of Eastern Nigeria.

Anambra is the America of ndi ebonyi. Anambra is the dreamland destination for millions of ebonyi people.

Anambra has the best infrastructures in igboland but single and double lanes. Anambra is the economic capital of igboland.

If Anambra start deporting millions of ebonyi people that ran to Anambra to live because ebonyi is a useless worthless backward state full of dilapidated obsolete infrastructures, poverty infested people, miscreants, etc. ebonyi people are more or less almajiris in igboland.
