President Goodluck Jonathan has come under a fierce attack due to his recent comment in Trinidad and Tobago and he was quoted saying " Emancipation struggle is necessary so that one day the black man will also be at the top and can dictate to the rest of the world"...GEJ http://www.trinidadexpress.com/news/_Promised_land_for_the_black_man_-164690996.html |

ekt_bear: What is wrong with his statement? What is racist about it? Ask them o! Maybe some people don't understand what a racist statement is. This is just a motivational statement calling on the blacks to rise to the position of leadership in the globe. I wonder how the statement is racist when it is not castigating any race. I really love the way they were hailing GEJ in Trinidad and Tobago 31 Likes |

It is a "racialist" statement. But it is not a "racist" one. Saying that black people should stop sucking and start winning doesn't sound racist to me. He isn't putting anyone else down. If it is a racist statement, then which race(s) should be offended by it? 15 Likes |

I think it is racist to the people of Trinidad because that country is half black and half Indian. And the current Prime Minister is an Indian. Trinidad is a multiracial society. GEJ has to be careful about what he says there. 4 Likes |

EzeUche: I think it is racist to the people of Trinidad because that country is half black and half Indian. This is a good point. I forgot about it. Yeah, given that T&T is a diverse country, GEJ should have been more careful. But if it had been a mostly black country he were visiting, then the remarks shouldn't have been seen as offensive. 1 Like |

EzeUche: I think it is racist to the people of Trinidad because that country is half black and half Indian. And the current Prime Minister is an Indian. You are right, in a multiracial society such comments should not be made. Diplomacy should be adhered to. Jeez! I was watching our dear Patience climbing the stairs of the airplane (over the television)as they were taking their leave and laughter wan kill me. It was very tasking for her, the way she managed to be lifting her feet after feet on every stair of the plane made her look ridiculous. I laughed. |

Indeed, the statement itself may not be racist per se, but it is wrong on many other levels - such as being "racialist". For one, such talk by the president of the world's largest nation is "pedestrian, street talk. It shows a crass lack of understanding of either history or the current world in which he is supposed to represent 160 million blacks. But like I said earlier, this is now his trademark - aka "we know those behind BH". On another level it is shameful that a president could contradict himself so badly in one statement. How could you call for "emancipation" just so that you could "dictate" to others? I am sorry, but the man just doesn't cut it as "president". ekt_bear: It is a "racialist" statement. But it is not a "racist" one. 3 Likes |

If you see nothing wrong with the original statement, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with the statement below. . . . " Continued struggle is necessary so that the white man will always be at the top and dictate to the all of the world"... 6 Likes |

omo_to_dun: The Nigerian president should have made the statement indirectly, employing subtlety and diplomacy, like Americans do. Which americans? The same two-faced americans whose secretary Hillary Clinton is currently on a trip in Africa telling African leaders not to deal with or co-operate with China? That does not sound diplomatic to me. The average american once they know you are an African or non westerner will throw caution to the wind and say anything their maggot infested brain can come up with. Diplomacy my foot! |

Teach every generation of black children black history and make sure self pity is induced so that they could grieve for what no longer exists and continue to wear shackles. My fellow Afro Trinis first of all Happy Emancipation to you all.... now second if I can refer to the first paragraph above ...now lets be fair could you imagine the backlash if a white Politician or for that matter Chinese, Indian , or whosoever made such a statement You would never hear the end of it...Domination?? Have they we not learned that leads to war and bloodshed.....come nah man Mr President you real outta timing on that one.... 1 Like |
