there is no evidence that satan was in the garden just as there is no evidence he tempted eve.the bible says "and the serpent was the wilest of all the creatures".this verse attributes trickery with the serpent irrespective of influence from lucifer.the serpent was just playing a game with eve

If you can answer that, then you can answer how in Job chapter 1,

1. The Devil entered heaven and had a cool meeting God twice.

2. How the Devil and God sounded like friends and even gambled on Jobs life.

It's exactly like Okija_juju said, when God and the devil were chatting like ol' chums, placing bets on who would win: the devil or Job. So going by that, and also by the fact that nothing happens without God's permission, Adam 'n' Eve were the first Job.

As animals are more easily possessed by spirits (for example the talking donkey in the Balaam case), its not surprising that Lucifer as he was then known could possess the serpent and tempt Eve without breaking any rule...
