‘Rivers expends N90bn on roads in 17 months’
By NAN | 26 October 2016 | 10:59 am
The Rivers Government has spent over N90 billion on the construction of critical roads in the last 17 months, Governor Nyesom Wike has said.‬

Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, the Special Assistant to Wike on Electronic Media, said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the governor made the disclosure while declaring open the West Africa Architects Fair (WAAF 2016) in Port Harcourt.

‬‪The governor also said that the infrastructure development programme of his administration had been insulated from political consideration for the attainment of positive results.‬

“We have spent over N90 billion on construction, rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, bridges and jetties.
“This money has effectively delivered over 80 roads while work is ongoing on the construction of about 35 new roads, spread across the three senatorial districts of the state.‬

‪”Most importantly, in order to derive maximum value for money spent, we have insulated our infrastructure development and delivery master plan from political considerations by ensuring that the designing, construction and supervision of all our roads are handled by reputable professionals and construction companies.”‬

‪According to Wike, his administration has overcome the initial challenges of empty treasury, unpaid salaries, insecurity caused by closed courts and a weak economy.‬

‪”When we assumed office, we met a state that was at the lowest rung in all indices of development.

“Besides an empty treasury, we inherited months of unpaid salaries to civil servants and a totally broken infrastructure.

“The poor security situation was exacerbated by the prolonged closure of the courts for over 12 months, leading to unprecedented capital flight and disinvestments.‬

‪”However, 17 months after, we have recorded remarkable achievements in several areas of development.”

He said that his administration’s priority was to clear the backlog of salaries, fix broken roads and transport infrastructure and create jobs by reflating the economy.

“In all these, we have successfully delivered.‬

‪”For instance, apart from clearing the arrears of salaries, we are among the very few states with proven capacity to meet our financial obligations to civil servants, contractors and vendors.”

The governor lauded Nigerian Architects for their contributions to the development of the country.

He recalled that since his days as council chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area up to becoming the o Minister of State for Education and now governor, he had been collaborating with architects to deliver quality projects.‬

‪In his remarks, the President, Nigeria Institute of Architects, Mr Tonye Braide, said that members were working towards developing new cities that would help grow the economies of different countries.‬

‪NAN reports that WAAF 2016 is a gathering of architects and allied professionals from across the West Africa sub-region.

Distinguished Teachers of Distinction
out of curiosity I had to attend the Ahoada West Local Government Chapter Nigeria Union of Teachers Meeting.

I went so early in other to see things for my self. I went close to NUT chairman of Ahoada West immediately he arrived. I overheard their discussions that GOV WIKE IS PLAYING WITH FIRE THIS TIME. THAT THEY HAVE ALL DECIDED TO GIVE HIM THE ONLY LANGUAGE HE UNDERSTANDS WHICH IS STRIKE.

But something curious happened,he got a call and shifted from where he was standing and i went close to him. I overheard him shouting No way,we can't go back on our decision at this time. That it is not acceptable to him and his excos.

Immediately he dropped the call,he gathered Teachers and told them that he just got a call from the RIVERS STATE NUT CHAIRMAN that the Governor has called him and his Excos have agreed to pay us our salaries Tommorow and that we shouldn't go on strike. Teachers murmured and he said that if they didn't pay then by Monday,he would declare strike for Ahoada West L.G.A.

I smile and said to myself,if only they knew I have been on trike for a long time.

NUT RIVERS STATE CHARTER A SCAM.
WIKE IS HIS EXCOS ARE FRAUDSTAERS.

IF BY MONDAY AM NOT PAID,I WILL BE CURSING THIS BLOODY GOVERNMENT IN RIVERS STATE EVERY DAY AND NIGHT, THEY ARE VAMPIRES.

I salute the courage of the Phalga and Ahoada chapter of NUT.
This man named Lucky Nkpongene (make una hear name n-kpon-ge-ne) is a sellout...Nkpongene has treacherously made the Union an appendage of this crude and cruel government populated by beasts in human flesh.

Instead of telling government to do the needful he is calling his chairmen to sleep ...what is this? am tired. can you imagine ....the phaga and ahoda chairman calling for strike is to tell u that leadership at the top has failed. They can fool some people all the time and all the people some of the time but they can't fool all the people all the time. #Payourmoney.

90 bilion spent on roads! that is why I said we should be called roads so he can start spending money on us...because the word teacher is not part of the project going on for now.

my brother as in eh... am baffled at the high level of solidarity of teachers on this matter..i called four of my colleagues in different schools in my LGA,their responses were all the same which is AT THIS POINT IT IS NO LONGER NECESSARY FOR THE OTHER LGAs TO HOLD THEIR OWN ZONAL MEETINGS.. IF THE BACKLOG ARREARS OF AFFECTED TEACHERS ARE NOT CLEARED BETWEEN TODAY AND TOMORROW, ALL RIVERS STATE TEACHERS WILL EMBARK ON THE STRIKE FROM MONDAY. .aluta continua
