The power is shifting, China is the world's super power, the next continent will be Africa and Nigeria will surely grab it but how soon it will be depends on how we can collectively work and improve in all sectors of our economy. 1 Like |

It is very possible. Lets start by removing federal character/quota system, and enthrone meritocracy. Lets get our best brains handling all the sectors of our economy and governance, lets stop tolerating mediocrity in the name of carrying everyone along. Once we do this,we must have laid the foundation for greatness. |

BIZNESSMIND: Do you realise that Russia is ranked worse than Nigeria in corruption by the latest Transparency International Index? Fact is corruption will NOT stop Nigeria from advancing. It can only slow down the speed of advancement. |

cap28: definition of superpower: Good post as usaul Cap28..like how you bring balance to issues.. Here a wiki link below..Oh Dear..I guess European/US Elite and a Well known Religious Institution in Italy would not want this news going viral on the internet "Pun Intended" It always well stated in any issue that the first casualty in any war is the truth... Black African slavery is no exception... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanus_Pontifex |

The fundamentals indicate Naija will overtake S.Africa by 2025.Remember this thread? https://www.nairaland.com/707700/nigeria-overtake-south-africa That’s my “take-home message” from the headlines emerging from a new Morgan Stanley report, which predicts Nigeria’s economy will overtake South Africa’s as Africa’s largest by 2025. High oil prices, the “decisive” election of President Goodluck Jonathan and buoyant consumer spending will all push Nigeria’s economy into the front in the next 15 years, says the Morgan Stanley survey.Of course we need context. You first need to get the internal dynamic fixed. The roads, health, power etc etc. and don't forget like all of Africa, you're still young. Few of us are over 50. The oyibos would have you believe they sprang onto the world stage fully formed as technologically advanced, educated citizens and a large middle class. AHAHAAHAH! Those are all post war developments. Read up on it. While you're at it how many Britons die of winter cold each year simply cause they can't afford heating? Last winter 25,300 more people died in the winter months than in the summer, an increase of seven per cent on the previous year, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/elderhealth/3531276/Thousands-of-elderly-people-die-of-cold-each-winter-in-a-national-scandal.html If that's not a scandalous indicator of endemic poverty in a 1st world nation,IDK what is. |

Nigeria has been a regional Super Power Almost from independence until IBB degraded us from Aug 1985. Abacha re-established our role as regional superpower from 1994 until Obj degraded us from 1999 until today. |

@Post Nigeria could be anything she wants to be if: 1. We change our negative mindsets as Nigerians. The average Nigerian will support/have the back of oyibos, asians and other foreigners living in Nigeria over their fellow Nigerian. We must support one another and have a sense of patriotism. 2. We put aside tribal sentiments and work together for the common good of the country because a house divided amongst itself can never stand. 3. We focus on manufacturing most of our own products like electronics, cars, etc. Also, grow our own crops including quality rice (with minimal or no stones), wheat (so that we would not be stuck eating cassava bread, cassava puff-puff, and cassava birthday and wedding cakes), and several other crops. 4. We have compassionate, intelligent, goal oriented and driven leaders with a vision who can negotiate international and public policy terms that will benefit us as a nation and not asia and the west that are out to suck us dry. 5. We can come up with a strong military who know what they are doing and who can defend our borders and the sovereignty of our nation. 6. We can fight and end corruption. 7. We can have stable electricity supply, good infrastructure, good healthcare, good schools and universities. 8. We can invest and encourage research in science and technology. 9. Citizens have access to affordable bank loans that can help them start a small business. 10. We can get rid of all the cabals and internal and external enemies of progress holding Nigeria ransom. |

Were you looking for optimistic answers, or realistic answers? If the former only, you should have said that in the original post. |

This to me is the sort of breakthrough one might need to become a world power: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505263_162-57514837/richard-branson-on-space-travel-im-determined-to-start-a-population-on-mars Something on that level. Then again, perhaps there are other ways...this just seems the most obvious to me from observing the fortunes of those who colonized the Americas. Some sort of revolutionary scientific invention might also do the trick. |

jmoore: The power is shifting, China is the world's super power, the next continent will be Africa and Nigeria will surely grab it but how soon it will be depends on how we can collectively work and improve in all sectors of our economy. China is not the super power it is a nation that will become a super power. And it's power is tied to the west. There is no logic that the next super power will be in africa. |
