2mch: OP,

First nigeria will have to have goals and focus on this as their main objective. That means, little or no chopulation and being satisfied with your salary or the money you make from personal workshops and books. Now think about this for a second and come back to tell me your conclusion here.
Just post your comment and leave rather than insult the intelligence of the OP. he's a human being like yourself, so it's not wise to taunt him. It's not fair.
Re: Can Nigeria Ever Be Super World Power by bittyend(m): 4:29pm On Sep 17, 2012
There is no cowardly super power out there with unintelligent citizens. Compare the comments on NL with the comments on South African or Egyptian forums, and the difference is clear. You can't be a super power when you're pro-everything except your country. Most would support America and the West to the detriment of their own country, it's shameful and appalling.

Most Nigerians are book smart but definitely not intelligent. You also need to have a highly intellectual populace to be able to pull it off and that's something Nigeria lacks. Forget about Nigeria, the country is a failure!!

It will neva happen wif d way we are goin in dis country. We are stl far from developing our mind talk more of our society.
Re: Can Nigeria Ever Be Super World Power by danjohn: 4:34pm On Sep 17, 2012
I think our first priority should be developing a modern industrialized economy. This super power talk is premature. We need infrastructure, electricity, education, healthcare, and security. Once all these are provided, Nigeria will begin to rise. Our GDP will double every 6 years for 20 - 30 years.

ekt_bear:

Hmm...like, top 10 influential countries, let's say?

Seems pretty unlikely. Nigeria is populated, but it isn't like an India or China who can influence the world through population alone.

Nigeria is economically weak, also (though growing at a pretty decent rate).

Unfortunately, I think things have for the most part already been decided.

We'd need some sort of game-changing event to become top dog (E.g., something on the level of Spain's acquisitions in the New World that briefly made it a top dog).

With that said, becoming a "pretty decent country" is probably achievable. Perhaps best to focus on that first before worrying about being a world power.
correction! Nigeria has d 2nd largest/best economy in africa after sA,and 39th in the world. . .not that that's gr8 or anything, but its nt as weak as u put it
Re: Can Nigeria Ever Be Super World Power by Nobody: 4:36pm On Sep 17, 2012
bittyend: Highly impossible! We don't have what it takes to be a super power, but we can always be somewhere in between. Nigerians just don't have the cerebral capacity, bravery, and nationalistic mentality to pull it off.
i thought we are the most educated in the world with phds and masters ?

obadiah777: i thought we are the most educated in the world with phds and masters ?

Being the most educated is different from being an intellectual property. Nigerians might be educated but we're definitely not an intellectual property. How many educated Nigerians think 'out of the box' and take risks outside their comfort zones? Just take a look at the comment pattern on nairaland, most feign intelligence, but they're empty up there.

We just don't have what it takes.

The problem with most nigerians is that they lack foresight, actually not nigerians blackmen in general, that is why we are so backward.if you have eye and you can see then you would know that nigeria is almost by all standards a world power. But because one white reporter from CNN has not said it,you would obviously not know. we wait for white people to tell us everything. Re: Can Nigeria Ever Be Super World Power by Wallie(m): 5:14pm On Sep 17, 2012
Not likely in our lifetime!

Superpower to me implies that the country has enough military might and influence to rival the strongest countries in the world. Right now, there’s only one superpower in the world and that’s the US.

To become a superpower, we would need to have unparalleled military and a great economy to fund the military. If your country is just rich and/or prosperous, you will exert almost no influence in the world stage just like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. You need a combination of military might and “money” to pressure countries to do your bidding.

What’s more likely in our lifetime is for Nigeria to become the superpower of Africa along with South Africa if we can get out acts together!

oluface: Is it possible?

It is possible for Nigeria (our Naija) to become great, even in our lifetime. And we have examples of countries in Asia and South America to go by. In any case, I think a number of factors contribute to nations becoming great: education certainly helps. Other factors include the mindset of its citizens, philanthropy, leadership (or good examples). The list goes on... We also have to consider factors that may prevent a nation from realizing greatness, religion, culture, a lack of a unified positive mindset, illiteracy, tribalism, polygamy, etc. Again, the list goes on.

Mark 3:25, "And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand."
