Obasanjo in his selfishnes and hunger for power hurriedly sold out bakassi to france. Just to appease the west to support his third term agenda, and so that he could be seen as a man of peace that obeys a UN orders. Why on earth could Nigeria as big as we are- defence,population and otherwise) ceded her teritory full with abundant minerals and a maritime gateway for that matter to Cameroon just like that as if it was a comodity for trade. As we speak, this law has not been domesticated by the National Assembly cos he did it unilaterially, why was he rushing to sign this agreement without the backing of the Legislature.Thank God he didn't succeed with his third term craze, even though he's been compensated with a UN envoy's job which is only restricted to african countries, What an a$$ hole he is, smh. |

I think what is important at the moment is what can we achieve with the facts that we are bringing up now after almost a decade, cos it might just be a case of adding salt to injury if we cant do anything with the emerging fact, since the bakassi case is almost forgotten |

We're a big country and we had no business going to the ICJ when we knew the French have special interests in Cameroun/Francophone Africa... naptu2: Any country that is not satisfied with the ruling of the ICJ can appeal to the UN Security Council I'm not sure, but I think they have to appeal within 10 years. I read recently where the NBA highlighted that Nigeria had an opportunity within a limited time frame within which to go back to the same court that gave the judgment, with fresh facts, to review the case. I am not aware whether this unsolicited advice is being paid any heed. My thinking is that Nigeria can still represent fresh facts and while the case is being reviewed, militarize the bakassi location. Besides, if Nigeria had been any serious, it could have refused to abide by the judgment of the ICJ and nothing unto wards would have happened. How many UN resolutions have been flouted by Israel yet nothing has happened to them, except as someone hinted earlier, it may just be that this portion of Nigeria was sold for cash by Obasanjo. Sadly no one is looking at the plight of the people now yanked off from the ancestral home and history they have ever known, it's not even as if Cameroun is excited about having them there, the subject of interest to them is just the oil. It's sad and sucks to be a Nigerian at a time such as this. |

Dignitary: We can overrun Cameroun and put a military base there. In this era, countries do not just fly into another sovereign territory and start fighting their wars, it could at most be done surreptitiously. At any rate, with what we have, we can hold the fort and if France chooses to join fray, who says we cannot persuade other countries to support us militarily? At most we give them a bit of our oil. America will be very willing to support that cause provided there is oil in the offing, and if Nigeria wants to make anything out of that land, they should explore the window now open or forever leave it to Cameroun. It is however a huge shame that again we have displayed embarrassing act of cowardice. |

Bakassi is gone. Nigeria sold it to Cameroon, you can't double back whenever we feel like it. The state is gone, the people want out of Cameroon but they do not want to get back to Nigeria. Leave the state alone, in my opinion, they are even lucky sef. |

Duke of garri: Obj was not the one who took the case to court. Cameroon did in 1996 under Abacha regime. Since Abacha regime agreed to the jurisdiction of the ICJ and the case continued under Abdulsalaam, obasanjo had no alternative but to inherit the case. Unfortunately, judgement was given during his tenure which was unfavorable, but he had to carry the can. Nigeria really had no choice but to accept the judgement. To do otherwise would have made us aggressor (with all the diplomatic implication) since Cameroon is now backed by an international judgement. If we intended fighting it out, we should have rejected the jurisdiction of ICJ when cameroon dragged us there in 1996 under Abacha. |

Walter has 22 docs in his possession to prove that the 1913 German Anglo Treaty was not the first between Nigeria and Cameroon yet kept them in his drawer for 10 whole years,no wonder he never made a good minister of foreign affairs. . OBJ should have hired competent lawyers abroad instead of sending those incompetent political thieves called lawyers to represent Nigeria at ICJ,Bakassi is a lost case and I doubt if we can ever reclaim the peninsula from Cameroon even with those bedroom history Walter Ofornagoro is selling to us after 10 years. |
