Jonathan To Fashola: “Let’s Work Together” by mamikky: 10:52am On Sep 19, 2012
President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday called on Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola to cooperate with the Federal Government in order to make the ‘Mega City’ better considering its importance to the nation’s economy.

Jonathan said this in Lagos yesterday while reacting to Fashola’s request on the conferment of status on the state during a book presentation tagged ‘The Jurisprudence of the Living Oracles authored by civil rights activist, Tunji Braithwaite.

Referencing the Central Bank record on the state, the president said Lagos ‘pedals’ about 52 percent of bank deposits in Nigeria’s economy and as such, it is a state that cannot be ignored in any way.

He said, “Let me acknowledge the request of Governor Lagos; even in the car, when we were discussing about some areas we need to work together. Lagos is very important to us. There is no president in this country that will play with Lagos. That is why we need maximum cooperation between Lagos and any federal authority.

Jonathan emphasized that Lagos state was one of the pillars of Nigeria’s economy, stating that whatever affects Lagos affects the entire country. “Anything that happens to Lagos will impact the country negatively. Therefore, we will work with you to see what we can do”

The book presentation was part of the activities marking 79th birthday ceremony of Braithwaite.

that's the essence of democracy, working in unity regardless of the political party, and Fashola has proven to be up to the task in goverance.

Na wa oh, some people just rush to comment before even reading the contents of a post. The president simply identified that co-operation and collaboration of efforts is needed to make things work. It's left for Fashola to decide if whether he wants to collaborate with the federal government or not, okay?

What it really means: "Lets tell the world that we work together so that I can share in the praise that comes from the progress in Lagos."

When Obasanjo played politics with Lagos state funds and overall development, atleast Lagos didn't collapse. Lagos/ACN can never work with FG/PDP can never work with. Lagos alone will survive without Nigeria.

when obasanjo withheld federal allocation for more than 3 years, did lagos crumble?NO
ACN is advocating fiscal federalism.ACN is telling federal government to withold its allocation and let the states keep the taxes they collect.its as simple as that

oga with comprehendable daftness and unlimited MB,.what was the request fashola made of GEJ?lemme answer for you.that lagos should be accorded special status.isnt that something that has been agitated for close to 10years?why should a state like bayelsa or ondo receive more allocation than lagos?rivers receives double what lagos receives as federal allocation.should that be so?why didnt jonathan address that issue?

Learn how to read. He was responding to Fashola's request for mega city. He didn't come to beg Fashola to work with him. Is it that people is Lagos don't know how to read?
