Bros, if Owerri-centric persons like you lead Imo state for another 16 years after Owerri-centric Rochas Okorocha, that Owerri shall become a shithole of a city. Go to Irete, Egbeada, Naze, Egbu, etc areas of Owerri to see urban squalors due to population influx to Owerri from the rest of Imo state. We need to stop this Owerri madness people in Imo state before they drive the state aground. Pray for redistribution of government development projects to Orlu and other parts of the state where there is nothing, so as to check migration to Owerri from rest of the state.

You don’t go to any state anywhere in the world and what is talked about the state’s development process is 99% for state capital. Even clowns can’t talk like that.

Already, too many urban ghettos litter all over Owerri due to population influx to Owerri from the other parts of Imo state denied basic development projects of government now concentrated in Owerri.

One of our biggest problems as Igbos is primitive clannishness. We are too individualistic to the extent that we don't identify with good things or common good except it is done particularly for our clan, that's crab mentality!

This noise about Owerri-centric whatever is nothing but bul.shit raised to power 10. Owerri is Imo State's capital and largest city. If someone from Abia state should complain that their governors are focusing on Umuahia and neglecting Aba, he would have a big point because Aba is state's economic, commercial and industrial centre, Aba is the proverbial goose that lays the golden egg and same applies to Onitsha in Anambra state. States like Abia, Delta and Anambra are different from states like Imo, Rivers, Cross River, Enugu or Ebonyi etc.

You don't understand economics and how to make optimal use of scarce resources. If the state government should start developing every town in Imo State at the same time, the state will go bankrupt yet everywhere will still be mediocre. The state won't be able to attract foreign or even local investors because nowhere is decent enough for them to stay. I'm not saying other places should be completely neglected, no government should provide basic amenities like roads and pipe borne water, but the focus must be on Owerri because we don't have any other options. If you like, sink all our allocations on Orlu, it won't bring any tangible outcome for the entire state but if Owerri is developed, the impact will reach the entire state.

You claim there are ghettos around Naze, Egbu and other suburbs of Owerri but that's a big lie. Where is the ghetto located at Naze? Where is the ghetto located at Egbu? These are suburbs and Owerri don't have ghettos like we see in other cities.

The growth of Owerri is even private sector driven because there is nothing extraordinary the state government is doing here that is not being done in Orlu yet people keep envying Owerri for no good reason.

What is Wike doing in Rivers State outside P.H despite being a rich state? What is Cross River State government doing in Cross River outside Calabar? Ebonyi nko? Now, let me even tell you something, towns and cities in Nigeria outside the state capitals grow based on their own strength and willingness/capacity of locals. A good example is Nnewi. Anambra state did nothing for them yet the city has become a force to reckon with based on their indigenes who chose to invest at home. They didn't go about crying and lamenting like some of you from Orlu are doing, waiting for a government that can't even pay salaries to change their fortunes. Imo state government have done far more for Orlu than Anambra state government did for Nnewi and that's a fact! You will cry and lament forever and Orlu will still be where it is if you fail to do your homework. Orlu people are known to have dominated a lucrative sector in Nigeria like drugs. The state government has supported by building the biggest market in Imo State in Orlu, now what is stopping Orlu people from making their town the hub of pharmaceuticals in Nigeria like Nnewi made their own town the hub of vehicles and spare parts in Nigeria? Start siting your pharmaceutical factories and Warehouses in Orlu for a start, that is the smart thing you should be advocating for instead of crying that Owerri is developing instead of Orlu.

Gosh, you all should stop this crab mentality in this 2021, please!!

Uzodimma is most likely going to demolish the useless substandard flyover just like he demolished the culvert they call tunnel in Owerri

Owerri is a mess. Imo state makes one step forward and 10 steps backward. No thanks to their useless incompetent rulers that show their superiority by build and demolish.

Uzodimma will demolish all the substandard okoroawusa projects, and build his own substandard projects, the next governor will come and start demolishing those substandard projects only to start building his own substandard projects. Lol

This is why Imo state that was created in 1976 is still a backward jungle till date. All their indigenes running away for greener pasture to the neighbouring states.

The largest Pharmaceutical market in Nigeria at Headbridge Onitsha was built and dominated 100% by Imo indigenes. Orange Drugs built the largest soap(Delta soap) and drug manufacturing industry at Harbour Industrial layout Onitsha. So many Imolites have so many industries across the city.

Today, Imo state is the poverty and unemployment capital of Nigeria because there are no jobs in Imo state except brothels and motels. Imo state IGR, GDP, Financial sustainability, etc is among the lowest in Nigeria. The few Imo investors rather take their industries to other states thereby paying tax to that state and employing the residents of the state.

NDI IMO THINK HOME...ala aburo kwa otu.

Aba, Orlu and Umuahia were officially pronounced by Mbakwe government as the industrial hubs of then Imo state due to the numbers of industrial projects and businesses activities in the three places then.

Then enter new Imo state in 1996; a fraction of New Imo state used government instruments and literally killed the industrial hub nomenclature of Orlu by refusing to leave government amenities and institutions in Orlu.
Even the few amenities left later by gov Udenwa in Orlu were later made to rot.

Guy, Rochas was not Owerri centric, he developed other parts of Imo state, starting from Orlu, Oguta, Ohaji/Egbema, Umuka, Ideato north and south, Obowo, Mbaitolu, Mbaise to Okigwe. Though I will not deny the fact that he gave much attention to Owerri but he also did his best in other parts of imo state compared to other governors. He constructed many rural roads. Have you seen the primary and secondary schools in the rural areas? have you seen the markets in the rural areas? What of the Malaysia market in Obowo LGA or is Obowo now part of Owerri?

Stop believing everything you read online many people here can lie. Who attracted
the refinery and the gas plant in Egbema? who built the Orlu and Okigwe stadia? Who built the eastern palm university, Ogoko; who built the school of nursing and health technology, Okporo; and other higher institution facilities located outside Owerri city?

Beforee now most of us online believed that Owerri has bad roads as demonstrated here. But the video posted by Abagworo yesterday proved that Owerri is still retaining it's glory as one of the most beautiful cities in Nigeria. Rochas Okorocha did well and Hope Uzodimma is also trying to keep the city on track, though he might have his lapses but I think we should not judge him now, he is doing his best to keep the city clean and also reconstructing some of the failed roads.

I saw in the video the extension of the dualization of portharcourt road, the beautiful outlook of Douglas road which used to be the worst road in Owerri. Also in another video about Sam Mbakwe international cargo airport I saw that work is still ongoing on the dualization of Owerri-Aba road meaning that Uzodimma did not abandoned most of Rochas' projects as being portrayed on nairaland.

My candid suggestion, Uzodimma should clean up that dual-carriage road that leads to Rochas foundation college which connects the two Owerri flyovers, extend the Okigwe 8-lanes road to Orji town, finish the multi storey car park at Douglas road, finish the centenary multi-storey building, finish the dualization of owerri road, Orlu; create more dual carriage roads in Orlu, extend the dualization of Nkwerre, Orlu to Nkwerre; and create new towns in Owerri, Orlu, Okigwe and Oguta.

He can do it, Imo has the resources. One of the richest states in Nigeria.

Orlu people have been financing building of their urban roads and drainage systems, maintaining their social amenities since 2007 when IMSG left the town except the five or so roads dualized by Okorocha government.
Awka does not host all institutions of government in Anambra State.

Federal government owned Nnamdi Azikiwe university teaching hospital is in Nnewi. Owerri would never allow that in Imo state. Politicians from Orlu zone?
Anambra State government upgrades Nnewi urban roads and drainage systems.

In Imo state, these things are limited to Owerri because some people led by the thinking of Ohakim and Okorocha believe that there is something special with the name: state capital which rest of us don’t know.

Oga u lie, there are no slums or ghettos in owerri. There is even low government presence in owerri, most of the things there were built and attracted by people in the private sectors. If previous governments had built solid structures, successive onces would have gone to develop other places. You see a particular road done by four different governors.

I don't like people presenting propaganda as facts. Aba has always been an industrial hub right from the colonial era and up till the time of Eastern region, East Central state and old Imo State. Umuahia too had also had some big industries that were built there such as the Ceramics Factory and Golden Guinea brewery but I don't remember any huge industry that was sited in Orlu town for it to have been pronounced as industrial hub.

What industry did Imo State government kill in Orlu? Can you name them? Which government amenities or institutions did the state government remove from Orlu? Can you name them?

Again, which industry did Imo State government build in Owerri? Which institution did Imo state government establish in Owerri aside IMSU? FUTO, FEDPONEK and Alvan are all federal institutions, the FG choses where to site them!

Use this misplaced energy of lamenting and crying for state government to take from Owerri and give to Orlu, which doesn't make sense to advocate for your people to do for Orlu what Nnewi people did for Nnewi. The state government has already built our international market there, so why not take advantage of that to make Orlu the hub of pharmaceuticals in Nigeria?

If any town is actually lacking government attention, it is Okigwe and never Orlu, stop all these noise and see Owerri as your own too.

Oil producing Ohaji/Egbema, the Orus and Oguta - in any of these local government areas was where ISOPADEC headquarters should have been built.

But Rochas Okorocha who didn’t understand the difference between a state and state capital built ISOPADEC in Owerri where he boasted about that he was building his dear state capital city to international standard.
The group in Imo state who wants everything of government in Imo state at their doorstep applaud Okorocha, and use the name Imo instead of Owerri to ask for more.
A city of international standard without public water supply system does not exist.

Money put in erecting that giant impressionist ISOPADEC structure could have provided public water supply system to all of Imo state.

Treated public water supply system is the first insurance for health.

So you expected him to build ISOPADEC office in a rural area? Are u okay?? Is this how ur clanishness has deprived common sense from your reasoning>

THank you for speaking my mind and that of others who I believe have the same mindset about developing Owerri...

For me, as far as I am concerned, Owerri is not even there yet.. They should complain when Owerri has taken its place as a city and a state capital.. We still hava a very long road to go.

I feel pained that our succeeding governors have failed to maximize Owerri's potentials.

Owerri is lucky to be a nodal town situated in between two commercial cities of Aba and Onitsha as well as the oil hub of P.H. Private investors realized the potentials and started investing in Owerri and a wise government would have keyed in on that. Make Owerri a standard city and that requires more of having the passion than even money. Ensure Owerri is very neat, work with the private sector to establish exclusive areas that would have amenities like those found in Abuja and Lekki.

Create environmental police with bikes and mega phones to be patrolling our streets to catch people dumping refuse indiscriminately, people parking beyond yellow lines or in "no parking zones", roadside sellers blocking sidewalks or for crossing the gutter. Then massively plant grasses, trees, and flowers that would be constantly maintained. Arrest trailer or tanker drivers that drive during the day.
Ensure there is zero tolerance to bad roads, even if it means creating a unit that would be patching potholes until there is money to repair the roads. Let the word spread that a lot of things people do in other cities without anyone batting an eyelid would get one arrested in Owerri. Arrest traffic offenders like driving one way or not obeying traffic lights and take them to mobile courts that would be mounted in strategic locations. Then let the fines they pay go straight to the state government which would even boost IGR significantly. Ensure Owerri becomes the cleanest city in Nigeria. Mark all major roads perfectly and fix road signs at appropriate places. Remove all signboards mounted by road sides.

All these may sound Utopian but they're very easily achievable for any governor that is passionate about it. The good thing is that it doesn't even require too much money to achieve and follow it up with proper road shows informing investors about Owerri and areas they can invest in. Also pay selected bloggers and TV stations like AIT and channels to highlight Owerri

Do these things and watch Owerri blossom because many rich people will even prefer to live in Owerri than P.H. Many others in Abuja and Lagos would also relocate to Owerri. Before long you will start hearing mentions like Lagos, Abuja, P.H and Owerri as Nigeria's prime cities.

I honestly believed Oguta should replace Orlu in the hierarchy of things in Imo State.

Orlu should replace Owerri in the hierarchy of things in Imo state in future.

Nobody knows tomorrow. Since 2007, Imo has been having governors who have no soft spot for Orlu. Yet your Owerri can’t dwarf Orlu.

Stop this bile and envy against your state capital, Owerri is not competing with Orlu. I have told you what to do if you truly love Orlu and stop being a cry cry baby.

Good stick here and stop flying to threads that under normal circumstance you are just a visitor there and should conduct yourself as a stranger there.

That's the important principle guiding rule of engagement.

If you must comment then look for pan-Igbo thread and do such there.

Thank you...
