Ikoyi-lekki Link Bridge To Be Commissioned By November by 740megawatts: 12:54pm On Oct 02, 2012
BY OLASUNKANMI AKONI

MOTORISTS along Ikoyi, Lekki-Epe axis will soon heave a sigh of relief as the first ever cable styled bridge of its kind in the sub Saharan West Africa region – Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, has reached 95 percent stage of completion.

The link bridge project is sponsored by Governor Babatunde Fashola administration in Lagos State and being constructed by the construction giant, Julius Berger Plc.

he project was conceived in 2008, as solution to the perennial bottleneck on the Lekki- Epe road being serviced by only one access road.

Therefore, people of the highbrow choice area and the adjoining Victoria Island will soon witness a tremendous and pleasurable driving experience upon completion of the link bridge which will cause a relief from the daily traffic challenges the residents face trying to connect either Ikoyi or Lekki through Falomo Bridge, Alfred Rewane Road or Lekki-Epe Road.

Femi Hamzat, Lagos State commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, described it as historic, noting: “No doubt it is a testament to the sagacity of an administration determined to build tomorrow’s infrastructure today. It is the hallmark of a commitment to the welfare and socio-economic wellbeing of its people.”

When Vanguard Newspaper visited the site recently, it was gathered that the level of work had reached over 95 percent and according to Hamzat the target is to commission it before the end of this year, specifically first week in November.

The aesthetic bridge is a standard megacity compliant facility. It is to serve as a strategic bypass along the Falomo Bridge and Alfred Rewane, Independence Bridge and Ahmadu Bello Way.

Designed as dual carriageway, the bridge directly connects Lekki Phase I Estate with Alexander in Ikoyi. It is envisaged that on completion it would improve the living standard of the people and enhance social interaction, as it represents a significant content in the state’s tourism portfolio.

“The infrastructures provided must not only reflect present realities but also envisage future growth trends,” Hamzat stated, adding that it will also reduce travel time, save man-hour loss by motorists.

Moreover, the link bridge is expected to reduce the traffic on Lekki-Epe Toll Gates, as motorists who do not have any business along the axis would have the option of going through the link bridge, either from Ikoyi end to the other or Lekki end to the other, thereby, eliminating the present traffic rush being experienced on daily basis on Lekii Epe Expressway.

Technical details of the bridge obtained from the state Ministry Works and Infrastructure shows as follows: total length of bridge – 1.358km comprising of 722m approach and main bridge 466m; length of cable- 170m (suspended section). Eight of pylon: 87m from water level; navigational requirement clearance average of 9m above high water level.

Width is 16m across (8m on both sides); walkway – 4m across (2m on both sides); road works- Ikoyi end – 338. 7m while Lekki end is 311.5m.

OTHER LINK BRIDGES IN FOCUS

According to reliable sources, the state is planning another link bridge from Ojodu-Berger to Ikorodu to Isawo with a stop at Ikorodu. “But the construction will be tough, because the alignment is built up and the compensation will be high. So we are looking at various options,” the source said.

This bridge design by LASG is a good example on how the Federal Government should run projects. Project delivery period must not be compromised because of corruption. OP, can you get us more pictures?

This is what is making other people hate BRF! They hate him because when he set out to do something, he does it quietly and allow people to see the changes physically.

feature11: Is the bridge toll free?

Very tolled undecided

I am willing to bet it will be more expensive than the Lekki Toll. Makes sense, else there will be permanent holdup on that bridge.

With all those money made in Lagos state, are we suppose to be celebrating?? How about Ejigbo and other places? The difference between Lagos and other states is just that Fashola receives too much press praise and being favoured by dem also. Amechi still remains the best gov cos u don't experience flood anywhere in PH now cos he constructed deep underground gutters. Fashola is working as far as press is concerned

Under construction: Lekki-Ikoyi Cable Bridge
BY ADEYEMI ADISA · DECEMBER 6, 2011 · NO COMMENTS 1,621 VIEWS

The Lekki-Ikoyi Cable Bridge is going to be one of the first major cable stayed bridges to be built in West Africa when completed by the year 2012.

The 1.4km long bridge with a cable stayed pylon of 90m the middle and a full span approach and departing bridge linking Admiralty Way to Bourdillon Road.

The Lekki-Ikoyi Cable Bridge located in the metropolis of Lagos, one of the most populous cities in the world, will connect two heavily congested districts, thereby relieving city traffic.

The plans for Nigeria’s first cable-stayed bridge were drawn up by design specialists from Bilfinger Berger Nigeria GmbH.

The structure comprises a 700-meter full-span approach bridge. Connected to this is a segmental bridge of more than 600 meters in length, at the center of which is a 91-meter high pylon.

There are some threads where you guys should simply leave out this comparison thingy. It's not classy and only shows a lack of grace.

In a country where we have a lot of right thinking people. This fashola guy would have been a topshot to the president come the next election year. But not in this country, where tribal sentiment and ethnic bigotry prevails over other things.

No need for comparison. Each state should be able to determine what it wants.

If Nigerian politicians saddled with the responsibility of leading their people, worked tirelessly and delivered projects like this, Nigeria and her masses would be the better for it. But instead its me, myself and, my family syndrome that's the order of the day amongst them.
Criminal minds were brought up in/ under criminal backgrounds. I bet Fashola has a great family background and is a wonderful family man. Don't ask me how i know, the result shows. grin grin grin

The topic said Ikoyi-Lekki bridge to be commisioned by december, not comparing the achievement of the pacesetter and only government in Nigeria to Amaechi's Port harcourt. You can kindly open another thread for that if you can prove it that Amaechi is working. Besides not only the press are commending him,the whole world knows the impact of his administration on the residents of lagos state both home and abroad.

This & more are the reasons why some ppl are beefing BRF, instead of them to be criticising their state governors they 'll run to NL to criticise a working governor. If only other governors 'll emulate this Nigeria 'll have been shaping my now.

If ACN is willing, with all due respect, we from the S.east 'must' swallow our pride and join forces with them. It almost happened in my state, Abia, in 2011 guber polls, were ACN's candidate was more prefered. Fashola could step up his game and become the president for good. I have waited long enough for good governance and I know you are completely out of patience too. This much needed and awaited change must come with a level of sacrifice,my opinion though.
