I don't totally agree with the findings of this research. Yes Africans have a lower IQ when compared to Europeans, Americans or Asians of same chronological age but not as low as eighty somethings.That's just ridiculous. IQ below 90 is used medically for diagnosing mental retardation, so does this mean that the average Nigerian is mentally retarded? The answer is a vehement NO!!!!!.
Moreover the IQ test has its own biases and better and less subjective ways of measuring IQ are now available. IQ is not a predictor of whether someone will be successful in life or not. I'm suggesting a more better parameter which should be assessment of ones emotional and financial intelligence which are of more practical value than IQ which is only limited to the four walls of a classroom.

How do you even measure intelligence with numbers?
There are so many areas to measure. A genius in one area may be a dummy in another.

I think the whole IQ thing is crap.
It's just another way to place people in classes so as to make some people feel superior and some inferior.

Do a research of Nigerian students studying abroad, you will find out that they top their class.
Sometimes it's a competition between the Asians and the Africans, our 'intelligent' European and American friends are usually the struggling students.

I love this research, I have said it before in this forum and vividly remember being vilified for it. There is no way anyone can convince me that the IQ of black people is the same as that of white people. A mere cursory glance at the state of development (or the lack of it!) of most African countries would show that we don't necessarily need to do a scientific research to prove it.

Yes, I agree that some black people represent a positive deviation from the norm, but I think the overall assertion that blacks have a low IQ as compared to whites is very true.

Mark u, Nigeria is a British colonized nation, and since then we have learnt alot from them thus a large percent of Nigeria youth today are westernized, there are a lot of young NIgerians who cannot even comunicate in their mother's tongue but do well in English language, so if the IQ test was written in English language, then the result is fair enough

In my Travels around the African continent i can easily affirm that Kenyans(97) have the highest average IQ followed by Ghana (95) and then Zimbabweans (90).Nigeria comes in forth mainly because of our business "hustle" acumen and nothing more.In terms of general intelligence Nigerians are not intelligent ,they just think they are.This is evident when you look at how the average Nigerian reasons and votes.Instead of voting for true economic progress we vote along tribal lines and for known crooks.Intelligent people don't do that.

This simply shows the weakness and bias of the IQ test against cultures

There is what is called sampling in statistic. I believe that is where the analyst got it wrong. They would ve added the IQ index less than 40 of the bayelsan GEJ clan, less than 20 of the hausa/BH clan, less than 80 igbo/ojukwu setting and definately more than 120 Yoruba/yaho yahoo/lagosians/oil subsidy cabal/etc. The average concept is grossly unfair.

I totally agree with the result of this research, I even tend to think the 69 "AVERAGE" IQ score is a bit high for Nigerians considering how we live our lives. Don't loose the word "AVERAGE",

This point to the fact that our no.1 Problem in this not corruption but foolishness/stupidity, and this does not apply to our "rulers" only, we the "ruled" show even more traits of that.

My take is we need to start thinkin collectively on how to improve our lives economically, socially and if possible morally together. Our criteria for electing our leaders should be very rational and devoid of selfish bigotry motives.

PS: if you er reading this, you most probably have a higher IQ than 69 (though some pples post here may prove me wrong).

Don't conclude base on your personal IQ test results. That you're too dull or rather too dumb to score high in an IQ test doesn't mean every other Nigerian is dull.
