There are alternatives Bros and Total mvlv is one of them. Pureguard, Syngard and even Liqui Moly are better alternatives.
That liqui moly ATF is something else.Tried it on my Honda Accord and the shifting has never been smoother.I agree 100%

That was why I stated that the alternatives in the market are the saving grace for us. Imagine looking for dia queen for Mitsubishi or Spv1 for Kia. But all these multi vehicle transmission fluids have saved a lot of motorists from destroying the gearboxes. We now have a 9 speed gear oil in the market now

The recommended oil is atfz1 or Dw1. Oando ATF dexron 3 is advised to be used as a temporary fix like if you are in an emergency and you can't find the real oil, manage the D111 till you get to where you will get the correct oil and drain it out. That means that you can only use it for an emergency but if it is the usual transmission fluid change, use Total mvlv dexron 6 which is suitable for Dw1.

Plz note that ATF Z1 is no more in production since 2012 or so. Any one you see in the market now is china cloned (fake). ATF Z1 was replaced by DW 1 but you have to be careful not to buy fake. A lot of the fake is out there and you cant differentiate them from the real one. You just have to take the word of the seller that is the real one.

I drive a Honda Civic, 2003 model. I just changed the gear and would be mounted tomorrow. I was using Honda ATF Z1 I got from the public store before at around N1800 until I realised it's fake. Someone advised I get Oando Dextron iii but the manual says Dextron iii should be a temporary replacement. Is there any less expensive genuine ATF Z1 or any other recommended ATF I can buy?

@Sooperrescue pls help a brother

Total ATF dexron 6 mvlv or use Addinnol Atf dexron 6. The dealer for Addinnol Atf is here on Nairaland. That is your best bet. It was good that you checked before you bought the fake oil. It has been phased out since 2011.

He is right. The pressure solenoid is faulty and my advice is to change the gear box as it will be difficult to get a good valve body. Type tiv is still the ideal oil for the transmission
Boss good day,
I eventually got a technician over a month ago now who did something on the car and the transmissiom has been smooth ever since. Although, he mentioned that the p2716 error will remain but I can keep on using the car without any problems.
I observed from what he did that he just bypassed the cables to the affected solenoid as it appears there was no power to the solenoid from the cables and then tapped from one of the ignition coils. I believe the faulty cables came from the ECU as I observed he most likely disconnected some cables to the ECU.
I have actually read online several instances that similar codes were corrected by toyota by simply changing ECU (I think there was even a recall by toyota for replacement ECU for some corollas).
The car is working perfectly and true to his word, the only code I get is the p2716.
I just don't like the check engine light coming on and prefer factory settings.
With my observation, will you advice i change the ECU and return original solenoid wiring as I don't think the transmission is faulty?
NB: I confirmed ECU is the factory installed one and intend to change it with Replacement ECU by toyota.
Pardon my long write-up and will also ask your permission to copy @gazzuzz.

I have read severally here that the recommended oil for my car is Toyota Type iv and I stuck religiously to that. But last year I had cause to work on my engine and after the work the mechanic said I needed to buy transmission fluid to fill up my get system. I got the type iv for him but by then they already closed for the day. The next day, when I came I saw they have finished the work and steaming the car. I asked the boys that I met there about my transmission fluid and they said they already used. I asked for the container they couldn't find it immediately. Somehow I suspected they didn't use the type iv.
After a about two months, my gear stopped selecting reverse unless I revv the car. I went to a gear guy and he said I should top it up with type iv and watch it. I did and it worked fine for sometime and has now gone back to not selecting reverse unless I revv.
I am at a lost on what to do, can't afford Changing gear in this economy. Car is Toyota Avalon 2001

You should have drained the oil immediately and use the right one instead of topping it. Let someone change the fibres for you instead of changing the gear

Update.
A gear specialist confirmed it's the reverse fibre. But he suspects other things may have also gone bad in the gear. That he will confirm once he sees the inside.
My worry now is that I may not be able to afford Toyota type iv 8 liters after the job is done. Please what will advice and what other alternatives can I use, until I am able to afford the recommended type iv.

Oando claimed to be Dexron 3h and they listed Type Tiv as one of the oils their ATF can handle. Manage that first.

You cannot use Dexron 11 on your Camry. It is stated 11/111, That means it is Dex 11e or 111 that should be used. Oando Dex 11 is not electronically controlled. And a lot of us should be mindful of Castrol transmission fluid. It is a mirage

With the growing trend of failed automatic transmissions, it is imperative that you use the right transmission fluids for your vehicle. There are no fake transmission fluids in Nigeria, it is the motorist who is not aware of the fluid that their vehicles require and as such uses any fluid that is cheap and affordable. You find people using Abro on a Murano and you begin to agonise on their behalf. Why is this common like finding a motorist with a blackberry phone putting Dexron 11 ATF on a vehicle that requires Type IV when he can easily google the type of ATF to use or like a gentleman that used Dexron 111 on a 2008 Mercedes Sclass. Why buy a car you cannot maintain? As we prepare for the festive season associated with mass movement, do this for your vehicle: check if there is sludge in your engine, if your ATF is black or has a burnt smell, if your gear has shifting problem, and also check if your tyres are winter or all season tyres with reduced speed capability. If you are buying new tyres, ensure that they are all traction A, temperature A. Change your air filter regularly and if you need further assistance on the above issues, send us a mail and we shall respond as soon as possible. nigeriaarc@hotmail.com or info@arcnigeria.com

May i first thank you for the good job, giving folks here free specialist advise.

Mine is a corolla 2012, online research shows it uses Dexron iv tranny oil. I am scared of the oils i see around & intend doing a long road trip with this vehicle & gear oil is running low.

Please sir, how do i get the recommended Dexron iv synthetic oil, genuine one by toyota? Or what better full synthetic alternative do you recommend?

Thanks & God bless you.
