Delluchi:

Is time Nigerian Bikers n Riders all over the world should come together. We have to address some problems associated with safety and security of riders and bikers.  We need bikers club and if any is already existing it has to be made popular.

For example this my bike below is a legend vintage Laverda Ferrari F1 Customised 1000 cc (Only 20 produced worldwide). I bought it for Sfr.20,000 from a wolrd racing team member after failing to clinch the world title in Italy. I was offered Sfr. 31,700 ($28,000) by a member of bikers club in Switzerland but i refused to sell it because i need to see myself fully equipt with riders kits riding on the street of Lagos with this bike. What you think about having a bikers club in Nigeria ?

Nice Bike!! Still got it If yes, lets ride…………

This may be 435 days too late but I just ran across this thread today. Anyway, I thought to inform you about existing bike clubs in Port Harcourt & Lagos. I'm a member of the PH club and so is Inyang. We ride together most weekends and I can’t explain how pleasurable and satisfying it is – even with our bad roads. Together we’ve made several trips across Nigeria including to Calabar, Benin, Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna and we're currently planning a West African tour. I would estimate the number of running bikes in PH to be approximately 30 + 1 and counting. I’m also aware of the guys in Lagos called the Wheelers. We've been on a few trips together including to Abraka and Abuja. So, there you have it - Bike clubs do exist!!!! If you still gat ya bike, lets burn some rubber!! Holla,
Enjoy the fotos.

if you want to ride a bike in this country and live to tell others about it, you will need to know some basic facts first, you are 27 times more likely to be killed on a bike as compared to a car, you are 128 times more likely to be seriously injured that in a motor car in Nigeria.

I sold my car in Aug 2006 and got myself a bike and have been using it as my only transport since, it is good and enjoyable but it also has its down sides such as bad weather days make you blue, mobile phone using drivers make you want to mount an RPG in from of your bike, traffic that takes out the biking lane, a non start morning which means getting all finger dirty just to clean the spark plugs.

The ups are more and better than the downs of biking, i love the feeling of freedom with the wind around you, good fuel miles per gallon figures, my wife is thinking of getting her own helmet after passing her car in traffic one night, only for her to get home two and a half hours later exhausted, generally you get noticed everywhere you go,

my only advice to anyone thinking of picking up a bike are:

1. start with a small cc machine 125 or 250.
2. train for at least 10 hrs total in a closed parking lot (weekends most are not in use).
3. try to cover 100km in this parking lot before you even think of the road.
4. get yourself a good lid, not those plastics helmets but a real helmet no matter the price it is worth it.
5. try to invest in a pair of gloves and boots, ankle injury is very common on bikes.
6. believe in yourself and have confidence and ride within your ability, do not ride for others or play follow me.
7. watch the speed brother, i know it is tempting.
8. look where you want to go always, believe me you go where you look.
9. easy into corners, it is not worth it sliding on tarmac.
10. have a true believe that everybody on the road is out to kill you.

but i must admit motorbike riding is FUN.

Not for me in Nigeria - I'd rather watch from a safe vantage point.
I won't take a taxi bike either.

I'm more of a car person.

Hi gents,

I've been driving (4 wheels) cross country for several years now and recently getting the taste for power bikes. I have some questions and hopefully someone can help me on my may. This is just one of those things one gets the urge to do in their life smiley. Anyways,
1. where can I take lessons (anyone can learn from an okada rider but I'm not looking for a cheap route. I like things done properly.)
2. where can I get to see a good selection of used bikes in good condition and riding gear. (I figure who ever teaches should also have a fair idea, but I need a plan B & C)
3. what are the contact details for the bike club in Lagos?

Would appreciate the help.

i am a member of the wheelers club in lagos and i ride a 2008 Suzuki GSXR 1000cc,  biking is fun only when you ride safe. there are books to read prior to hitting the road that tell you how to survive riding a bike.

tantalizing pics, just enough to get one going,

Anyways like my golf, I'm gonna start my biking with a used budget bike until I build my skill sufficiently. What can I get for N300k, quality product? Anything out in the market?

Thanks for sharing all the pictures.

I am very happy to see a robust bike culture in Nigeria.

Before I left in 86 I had a Triumph Tiger 750 (ex Military), couple of buddies had BMW R90 (ex Police) and also Suzuki GT550 and 750.

We would see the occasional imported bikes but very few but there were tons of Honda Roadmasters and the Moblettes (sp).

Also really appreciate the touring Guys. The longest distance was from Abeokuta to Ilorin for me, typically would be from Abeokuta to Ibadan or Ijebu Ode.

If possible for the team doing the West African tour, can you send me details? I would love to participate in this.

For the others about safety, it's a frame of mind and one must make their own choices. The only other thing that can equal the sense of freedom that I get on a motorcycle is only when Iam flying a plane. Those that don't ride cannot understand. Yes, it is inherently dangerous hobby but life itself is a dangerous endeavour. I'll rather go while doing what I enjoy doing.

Be safe out there and yes, p[retend that most motorists are out to get you.

Hi guys, I've got one like this "a piaggio X9" in blue color, 125cc, automatic. It's italian make. Bike is presently undergoing repairs and ,servicing at the workshop after it's been out of use for more than a year, hence I could not post my own pic. Is this cool to ride in Nigeria? How often do you come accross automatic transmission in Naija and are there mechanics who specialise in repairing automatic transmission bike. I was thinking of sending it home to use but am also not sure if the parts for the bike will be available in Nigeria. Please advice if you can. Thanks
