o'boy:
the bolded sounds Idemili,is It?
NOPE! Not Idemili. Idemili sounds as 'kedu etu unu meru'
Re: Igbo learning thread + Translator by oboy3(m): 5:31pm On Jan 26, 2013
In my side of Idemili I have never heard "kedu" from village peeps,it is Ndee
e.g>"Ndee ebea o no?"
And "Ndee afa/aha gi?"

cantell: @all,
Anambra people do not use "isala chi" or "ibola chi", instead we use something like "ututu oma" or "itetago/itetana" depending on the area.
In my village, adults of the same age group also use "ndee one unu mere" or "Unu aputakwara ura"as a form of greeting in the morning.
Some towns in Enugu on the other hand, use an entirely different way of greeting in the morning.

that's not a morning greeting nau.
It's how are you doing?

Re: Igbo learning thread + Translator by Nobody: 6:53pm On Jan 26, 2013
as ezeagu said, ututuoma which is the literal igbo translation of good morning is a new igbo term. "Good morning" is an english kind of greeting.
Re: Igbo learning thread + Translator by Nobody: 6:54pm On Jan 26, 2013
Just as "kachifo" means goodnight and not "abali oma".
Re: Igbo learning thread + Translator by manny4life(m): 6:57pm On Jan 26, 2013

Re: Igbo learning thread + Translator by EzePromoe: 9:10pm On Jan 26, 2013
One thing in Anambra is that we all want to speak like Awka and Onitsha. In our typical Idemili dialect, if you want to say 'o gini k'ebu' for example is translated as 'odeni k'apa.

Nne "ututu oma" is as old as Igbo language sef...just that people find it difficult to coin it when speaking... while others may see you as trying to speak differently.Infact, people tend to make use of it in writing it than in speaking.

no i know what i heard,its "Omenneji"

"Omenneji" is a name used to call someone who treats everyone like a brother.

Broken down, it's:

"Ome-ka-otu-nne-ji" - someone who treats another like they come from the same mother. In many southern and eastern dialects, "nneji" also means "brother/sister".
