Lagos State Local Government Election Petitions Tribunal has declared the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Busari Akande, as the validly elected chairman of Agbado Oke Odo Local Council Development Area of the state.

The Justice Ade Owobiyi-led tribunal, in its judgment on Thursday, voided the certificate of return earlier issued by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission to the Action Congress of Nigeria’s candidate in the October 22, 2011 poll, Dr. Augustine Arogun.

The tribunal held that Akande polled the highest number of valid votes in the election.

Even in Ondo state PDP took second in the last gubernatorial election...and sentiment aside PDP is the only party in Nigeria that has a very strong structure. Go to the interior of Maiduguri, Ebonyin or deep inside Ogbomosho just anywhere in Nigeria you will find PDP presence. These are not good signs for the A.C.N at all. With the banning of Okada and a couple of other unfriendly policies of the Lagos government, some good, sellable candidate might be what the opposition needs to win the governorship seat come 2015.

Kudos to Fashola for allowing the Lagos State Judiciary its independence. Most state governors in Nigeria have pocketed their judiciary that election results will never be upturned in favour of the opposition party.
