Please go read the manifesto of CPC. The document is well articulated and clearly shows it has a road map. PDP's manifesto on the other hand was non-commital, non-specific. You wouldn't make aheadway out of it. Interstingly, pdp is now trying to adopt Buhari's manifesto in the following areas: 1. Citizenship vs indengenship. 2. Reduction in the size of government. 3. Reduction in the emoluments of the presidency and legislators. There is the public outcry now to remove either the senate or the house of reps. These are all the plans of Buhari's CPC. Buhari may not be perfect (no one is), but he is the one we need to rid Nigeria of institutionalised corruption and corrupt political leaders. This the first and necessary step for this country to progresss. Buhari chose a hard-lined, highly vocal and mainstream apostolic pastor from the southwest as his running mate so as to dispell the allegations that he wants to islamise Nigeria. If Buhari has a motive, it is to rid our country of corruption and not to islamise it. True, the fundamentalists from the north are not helping his aspirations, as they have tainted his reputation because of the part of the country where he hails from, but we have also seen recently that PDP leaders from the north are culpable for the insurgence in the north. 1 Like |

23rd January 1984 - Business America General Buhari Meets Nigeria's Debt Obligations, Issues New Foreign Exchange Rules Nigeria's Federal Military Government, which removed the civilian government of President Shagari in a coup on Dec. 31, has emphasized the importance of Nigeria's meeting its external payments obligations on time. International bankers were relieved when Nigeria paid the first installment of its rescheduled trade debt on time. General Buhari, the head of the supreme Military Council, announced his intention to keep Nigeria in OPEC and to continue discussions with the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and commercial lenders. On Jan. 9 the Central Bank of Nigeria issued new controls on foreign exchange, effective from Jan. 1, 1984. The provisions of most interest to U.S. companies are as follows: (1) Compulsory Advance Import Deposits The following rates of compulsory advance deposits will continue in 1984: Raw materials (except petroleum products) 10 percent Spare parts 15 percent Food (except rice) 50 percent Medicines 50 percent Building materials 50 percent Capital goods 50 percent Books (except single copies), periodicals 50 percent Motor vehicles and trucks 200 percent Motor cars 250 percent Other 250 percent All importers must pay the applicable rates when registering Form M, the Application for Approval of Foreign Exchange. The advance deposit is now applicable to all imports, whether or not they enjoy credit facilities of more than 180 days. (2) Commissions The commission payable to agents or confirming houses which act as intermediaries between importers and exporters has been reduced from a maximum of 4 percent to 2 percent of the f.o.b. value of the consignment. (3) Technical/Management Service Fees The existing allowable rate of 20 percent of net profits before taxes that may be remitted in foreign exchange will continue in 1984. However, payment of technical and management fees will not be allowed except in exceptionally deserving cases, such as for manufacturing companies where high technology is required. (4) Consultancy Fees The present 20 percent limit of consultancy fees payable in foreign exchange continues, but consultancy fees for feasibility or pre-feasibility studies will not be allowed because such studies may be performed locally. (5) Travel Allowances The Basic Travel Allowance will be N100 ($135) per year per person. The foreign exchange allowance for business travel has been suspended until further notice. (6) Student Remittances No foreign exchange will be made available to any new student. Students already studying abroad will be able to obtain foreign exchange to complete their studies. Walexz02:In America,i don't think any president has ruled for more than eight years(u can correct me if i'm wrong) i'm not saying burahi is bad,but why can't we go for new things, yes we went for Gej but things are not going the way we thought it would be but does that mean we should go back and vote for a former leader? Why do some Nigerian like going backward, the fact he his good does not mean we don't have good leaders out there who are ready to rule Nigerian... If we keep thinking that Nigeria can only be grt if only past leaders can rule then we will never reach there.. what have you really contribute to the growth of Nigeria? We are not only suffering from bad leaders but bad followers(u and i) |

2B1ASK1: I'd rather follow a radical that is making progress than a clueless that don't even know that we are sinking as a nation. gej does not have balls. I regret voting himShow us evidence you voted GEJ and why? Tell us why you voted him, Mr clueless. Meanwhile, I voted Jonathan mainly because I wanted a president that will be CLUEFUL enough to PRIVATISE PHCN in a transparent manner. I see privatisation of PHCN as the ONLY solution to epileptic power supply in Nig. GEJ promised to do that for me but your Buhari didn't. So far I've been very IMPRESSED with how the privatisation process has progressed. I know the hausa-north don't care about privatisation of PHCN because most of you depend on govt handouts. Privatisation of PHCN means SO MUCH to us in the south because a stable power will enable us unleash our individual entrepreneural and creative abilities. I know some persons from hausa-north say GEJ is clueless because he is not SHARING MONEY in the north. Yes GEJ is not sharing money but he is empowering you to create you own wealth. Examples include the current method of distributing fertilizer, which favours small farmers in the north. For the first time in a long while, about 1.2million small farmers got 2 bags of fertilizer each at half the price. They also got FREE cotton seeds, etc. Isn't it better to teach someone how to fish than give the person fish all the time? I know the hausa-north miss Buhari because he would hav been distributing FREE money every month to youths in the north. But how has such practice helped the north over the years? So my friend that voted GEJ last yr, why did you vote him and how has he disappointed you |

Funny country... remember when Asari dokubo said something like there will be war(can't really remember)in the Country is Gej is impeach. Now tell me,if Buhari rule will there be any difference?lol..another group will stand up and start firing ans shoting.. i don't think bad leaders is the only problem of Nigeria........we are bad followers Take it or leave it |

Umunede: boko haram named him to negotiate for them. They are fighting for himFollowing your logic, I bet one can also say members of the Aaron Team, comprising Akigbe, Soyinka et al, selected by the ND militants to negotiate with the FG on their behalf were militant sponsors.... Smh. Buhari all the way... Nigerians from north to south, east to west, are wiser now! The 'likes' tell the whole story! |
