berem: very true. how can someone who studied Electrical Electronics be told to teach Further Mathematics ? wetin im sabi? some corpers are not trained teachers too. I do support the teachers council.

Looking at it the other way round what does someone who studied Education in School teach? Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography?
Basically they'll end up teaching a subject they never ever studied in their 4 fours in tertiary education.

So which is better? I'll pick the Elect/Elect guy cause he would know Further Maths to an extent.

An Elect/Elect Engr graduate should be able to teach Further Maths efficiently!

I am being forced to question your age and intelligence!

imao God hv mercy on Nigeria teachers lazy set of people they now relied on corper now, corper do this, corper do that. the major thing is that every proprietor & proprietress now demand for corper from NYSE office to request for corpers, some refuses to employee teachers just to economis their payments cos they new corper will earn #5000 @ the end of the month.

On one hand, I can boldy assert than corpers make up atleast 50% of the teachers in the core Northern states and they do a lot of work.

Mass failure in WAEC and NECO is not as a result of corpers anything. When you have kids who don't understand the very basics of what learning is supposed to be all about. They can't spell correctly, can't write correctly, can't speak correctly. How do they understand correctly talkless of getting A's? It's just like bringing Mourinho to coach Super Eagles - It's already to late for him to eFfect any magic as the players have effectively picked up bad habits or even not picked up the basic essentials he'll need to make them succeed.

My own view is that the rot in our Educational system lies at the Nursery and Primary School levels. Go to a public school and see what they are teaching them are those levels...you'd be amazed. They kids don't know jack at this stage so it'll be a miracle to ask them to brighten up all of a sudden when time fr WAEC comes.

Sincerely, if you can lecture then teaching shouldn't be a problem for you, just try to carry the students or pupils along. You will enjoy it. Don't forget you were once like them.

Although they are right yet we can't blame d government.anybody who has graduated from a course shud be able to teach certain subjects if not many.certain subjects like the trio in jamb after english is excluded.most graduates are fluke.I can still remember my PhyChemBio to a great extent though nt much of physics.so,if d corper actually passed his pre-university exams without aid,why shouldn't he be able to teach while serving wen he has got chance to revise dem?

Nwogbe: whether u read edu or nt isnt d point. As someone that was given a university training and really pass through skul witout paying for ur grades u should be able and capable to teach in a sec skul. The issue is d half barked graduate dat our unis and polys turn out. I use to be one of d best teacher in ma skul when I served buh never read education thu.

Na wah o! You go school so? Wif this your rickety, dilapidated junk you call english......I wonder wat sort of knowledge you imparted to those students.

One of the best teacher I have encountered in life was a corp member. So, this generalization is fallacious.

The former corper in question had a BSc in Engineering. Posted to my school while most of us were struggling to score 50-60% in Mathematics. He made us to know that the only way to know Maths is "solving Maths everyday". By the time he finished his one year service, he was hired on contract. In 2years time he turned most of us from D and E student(in Maths) to A and B students. That was when I dumped my dream of Medical science for Engineering. Though I have not seen or heard about him for over 20yrs, I hope I will be able to trace him one day.

Kudos to Ebi Joe (Nickname) where ever U are!!

Akinlawson: Lazy and old cargoes teachers, shifting blame on corpers.90% of those teachers are due for retirement, going to classes with 1972 lesson note to teach pupils. Why won't they fail?

You are very correct. Everyone is looking for who to blame in Naija!! The funny thing is, if U are young teacher employing new techniques to teach they take it as pride. How many of them go to up-grade their knowledge?
One of the things they learned back in education is Class management, but people change and Naija is fast changing!! When I thought in gov't school on a part-time basis, come see some of these "pro-teachers" sleeping in the class.

Naija truly needs help!!

I think d govt need to have a rethink on d approach that is being used to post corpers, not all corpers should be posted to schools, some of them do not have what it takes to be a teacher, i think corpers should be posted to where they will be relevant, i mean, in relation to their area of specialisation. Posting corpers who will be more productive in field works to a school to teach is like killing their dreams, there is no way they will perform up to d expectation, because that is not their area of specialisation, so passion is generally out of it, and it is observed that, u can only achieve in d field you are passionate about. So to our government; this is a "clarion's call" for you to change in d way that d corpers are posted.
May God help us.

This is an absolute and acute Bullock !

The teachers are d oηε responsible ƒoя the massive failures! Cos i got a taste of this in мч service year. The teachers are very lazy, they don't show up and when they do, it's usually very late! Sit in the staff rooms and clatter away ... Den delegate d corps members to do their jobs. Most of their lecture notes are outdated too.

Yet @ d end of the month, smile to d banks to colect τнεiя Sry!

Who says the Corps guys r responsible ƒoя student's failures?

beware of generalization.

doesnt mean they're all good, but some are ok.

i believe those "some" you refering are those with basic teaching skills which most dont have.
Re: Corpers Cause Mass Failure In Schools - Teachers Council by Solozzo(m): 2:59am On Dec 12, 2012
Well the use of youth Corpers on teaching subjects in schools has always been a supporting role due to. critical shortages of teachers. So the council cannot blame school failures on only persons who only came to provide support. They forget that in the old days secondary schools leavers taught us some subjects in school. And the pass rate was better than now . The council just found an excuse for their failures. See what the governor of Edo found when he visited schools. Absentee teachers, lazy and inconsiderate and poorly motivated staff.

Instead of asking for better teaching upskilling programmes, training of more teachers and better remuneration, the council blames Corpers. Typical Nigerian, passing the buck.
