Not exactly.
We have two major problems in the country.
What we generate as revenue is too low and we misappropriate the little that we generate.
It is not only about politicians /executive, we are all involved.

A million likes for this!

I disagree with you on this.

VAT alone is enough to sustain this country .

FG get funds from every Import duties, Licenses , Oil and Gas, ICT & Telecoms, Radio, TV, Mining. etc

States like Lagoas collect billions in Paye Tax, LASAA levies and Land use charges .e.t.c

Yet we keep hearing stories of insufficient funds

Using our proposed N 8trillion budget at N360=US$1, we spend approx US$23 billion.
http://www.budgetoffice.gov.ng/index.php/2018-budget-proposal\

To put in perspective, SIPRI states that Israel spent approx US$16 billion on JUST defence in 2016
https://www.sipri.org/sites/default/files/Trends-world-military-expenditure-2016.pdf

Very small indeed, our national budget.

Greed and waste only contrive to shrink it further.

It is useless collecting tax in this zoo just because countries collect it.
Why is there no single minded efficacy to duplicate the developments in other countries that our politicians love going to relax every weekend?

-Nigeria generates N204.77 billion from VAT in 2017 first quarter – NBS

- The minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun, has disclosed that Nigeria generated N797.51 billion into the federation account from Value Added Tax, between January and October -

Note: Most of the expenses in our Budget are inflated

Nigeria is a country and not a zoo.
We are collecting tax because we need money not because other countries are collecting it .

This report vindicates my many assertions here on why I prefer FCMB ahead of DIAMOND BANK.
...a peer to peer comparison of their Q3 lays credence to this fact.
Even amongst the 3 musketeirs of FIDELITY, DIAMOND and FCMB, the latter clearly has a better CAR and NPL ratio.
Though for now, Fidelity is the more healthy of the 3 when u consider other key indices.
But its clear that FCMB is currently very much in the right path. ...add that to the recent increased stake in Legacy pensions, and it will only serve to indirectly aid the improvement of their CAR going forward.

Again, this report backed by its Q3 result clearly shows why ACCESS BANK was, and still remains a must have in ones portfolio.
...but it's also a thing of choice though.

The report shows that FCMB, ACCESS, GTB, UBA and ZENITH are the only banks not affected by the new CBN rule. ...and so they can pay out their planned dividends without restrictions.

And how much of this go to the FG.
Assuming the fg spend all the VAT, 798 billion / 180 million is how much?

And the said budget will never be fully implemented. Implementation might just be 60%. And a major part of implementation is on private pockets (looted).
In any case, stock investors are well taxed and their taxes are collected from source. That is what we call withholding tax. VAIDS dont apply here since its only when you sell that you earn and the tax is collected before you even see your money.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Coolcash1: 3:28pm On Feb 19, 2018
All the concerns raised by you guys on the excessive tax liability and politicians whacking of tax revenue are completely and genuinely valid! I cannot but agree more with you.

For instance, in Lagos state alone there is multiple tax. There is virtually anything that the state government don't tax. With the way the govt is being aggressive with her tax drive, they will soon be taxing the air people breathe in and out...The local government miscreants (who call themselves revenue collectors) are even terribly worst. They come around to harass you for money as if it is their father that opened shop for someone.

The fact is, VAIDS will fail because of the structural problems bedeviling the country's socio-economic landscape. The unfortunate thing is that, it is people working assiduously and genuinely to source for daily income that would be threatened, harassed and MILKED by the VAID officials. Or will these officials have the political will to go after the likes of Saraki,Babangida, Atiku,Obasanjo,Tinubu, house of rep members, senators, ministers et al even Buhari to explain and disclose their sources of income? Never! The VAIDS policy, of course, don't cover such institutions (sorry individuals... grin)

So long there is still overt corruption, lack of transparency and accountability on how the meager tax collected is spent by government, there will continue to be low appetite for compliance by the people to tax. As a matter of fact, even the tax authority does not even support 100% compliance because it affects the bottom line.... grin...Our tax system and governance is just a shit-hole that only takes the little that poor or low income people have to subsidize the rich class...i.e anti regressive.

LOL,

They don't divide annual budget by the population. grin

FG simply Budget for their workers(recurrent ) and FG projects(capital)

Every state government also have their own Budgets, workers(recurrent ) and state projects(capital).
