I haven't been reading my bible since the beginning of the year due to lack of my choice devotionals.

TODAY'S WORD FOR TODAY

THE CALL TO LEADERSHIP (3)

‘The Lord said…“Go on before the people…’’’

Exodus 17:5

2013-02-17

To be a good leader you must do these two things: 1) Spend time with the people. For four hundred years the children of Israel had been leaderless. As a result, they had no identity or self-worth. Actually, they had a slave mentality. So Moses often walked amongst them, because sheep gain confidence by smelling the shepherd’s scent and rubbing up against him. Getting the idea? If you’re afraid to get close to people, maybe it’s because you’ve too much to hide—like pride, or insecurity, or weakness. Only when people feel truly valued will they value you and follow you. 2) Get out ahead of the people. How do you know when it’s time to move to new territory? ‘…The people murmured against Moses…’ (v.3). That’s because there was no water where they were, and thirsty sheep always complain. When the murmuring starts, you may have spent too long socialising. It’s time for transition. ‘The Lord said unto Moses, “Go on before the people…smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it’’’ (vv.5-6). When you stop trying to fit in, and get out ahead of them, God will give you supernatural resources equal to the challenge you’re facing. No vision is permanently stopped by lack of finances, but by a lack of faith and courage, and an unwillingness to step out and take risks. When you do, you’ll discover that God can ‘…supply all your need according to His riches in glory…’ (Philippians 4:19 NKJV). According to what? His riches! And they are available when you’re willing to get out of your comfort zone and act boldly.

Exodus 20:14, Proverbs 6:23-35, Matthews 5:27-30 , 1 Corinthians 6:9-20

TODAY'S PRAYER - FROM PRAYER FOR TODAY MAGAZINE

PRAYER & ME

Are you feeling that nudge from God to step out and move something forward?  Maybe it’s a group or project you’re leading, or a plan you’ve been thinking about for ages.  Lord, I confess that I feel unsure of myself, but I am sure of You, and today I commit to stepping forward.  Give me courage to risk doing the next thing You’ve called me to, regardless of how it may look to others.

Jesus never intended for His disciples to get comfortable in Jerusalem and stay there. He told them, ‘…Forgiveness of

They were only supposed to remain in Jerusalem long enough to be infused with power, then take the gospel to the world. But they ‘…returned to jerusalem…And…stayed continually at the temple, praising God’ (vv. 52-53

By lighting a fire under them! ‘…Great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and …Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went’ (Acts 8:1-4 NIV).

Things of God do not require your supernatural strength. Granted we are to put in our best always but if we hope to achieve His Will by our own abilities then we fall flat. In most cases we are tasked beyond our natural abilities and tested to see what we really trust. I bet you as soon as he passes the test God will move him to something new. God is never static. This thread may not be there by year's end so make the most of it while it lasts. That's the way God does His things. Manna is always only for a season. Use it wisely.

Blessed Word. May we know exactly where we stand with God in His Will at every point in time so that when things happen we can put those events in spiritual perspective and react appropriately. In Christ every challenge is an instrument of teaching aimed at moving us to the next level of His Purpose. 'That ye might be perfect lacking nothing'.

Granted some devotionals are better than others but the aim is to reAd ur bible. If d devotional u use makes u so dependent on it dt u can't read d bible without it then I'm worried. I believe that devotionals shld aid us to grow to a level of spiritual maturity where we can study the bible on our own and get understandn thru the help of the Holy Spirit with or without devotionals.

Personally I hv been blessed by The word for Today Devotional. I used it throught last year so thanks to OP. God bless

TODAY'S WORD FOR TODAY

PRAYER, NOT PRESSURE, CHANGES PEOPLE

‘But we all…are changed…by the Spirit of the Lord.’

2 Corinthians 3:18

2013-02-19.

Jesus asked the question, ‘Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?’ (Matthew 7:3 NIV). Expecting more out of people than they’re able to give will hurt your relationships, not help them. People need the freedom to be who they are. That doesn’t mean they don’t need or want to change. But nobody appreciates being given the message, even subtly, that they must change in order to be loved and accepted. We’re more likely to change for those who are willing to accept us with our shortcomings, than for those who demand we live by their rules. One thing is certain: God won’t change the people we’re trying to change until we adopt a ‘hands off’ policy. We must get out of His way and let Him work! Even when we think we’re hiding our disapproval, people still feel it. It’s in our voice and body language. Prayer is the greatest agent for change, not pressure. If we truly love people we’ll pray for them and allow God to work on them His way, on His schedule, and for His glory. Many of those who irritate us are simply being themselves; their personality just doesn’t mesh with ours. Sometimes we want them to change when we need to change. Often the things we require in other people are already available for us to enjoy, if we’ll just stop judging them. For change to be lasting, it must come from the inside out. And only the Spirit of God can bring that kind of change.
