Player Rating: Nigeria Vs Burkina Faso by Jarus(m): 9:21pm On Jan 21, 2013
Man of the match: Tight one between Alain Traore and Pitroipa. Settled for Traore.

Now, over to business:

Enyeama: Not tried so much, but solid in the few times he was tried. Nothing he could have done about the goals.6

Yobo: Made grave errors in the first half that could have cost Nigeria. Tried to make amends later. But still not up to par 4

Oboabona: Average performance up till the final minutes. He was a culprit in the goal SE conceded 4

Ambrose: Though his red card was questionable, wasn't so impressive before being off. Nigeria hasn't got a right back yet4

Echiejile: Poor runs, unimpressive defensive ability. TT still better 4

Ogude: Much has been said about this guy's ability but he hasn't impressed me yet. Too raw in the defensive midfield. Not so comfortale with the ball, panicking. Was a red card in waiting before he was pulled off 4

Nosa: Average performance. A little selfish attempts. But a couple of brilliant moments supporting Mikel in the midfield 5.5

Mikel: Good game. Glimpses of the Mikel we hoped to see in 2005. Good distribution. But his poor shot at goal when he had an almost clear chance is unforgivable 6

Musa: Still has a lot to do on his final balls. Didn't penetrate enough from the wings as we rated him 5

Ideye: Good work rate. Selfless. Nice flip to assist Emenike in the lone goal6

Emenike: Great game. Nigeria's best player of the night. High work rate. Hustled for first goal when a lazy striker could have left it or made just mild attempt. Looks like a new Yekini, but definitely not a Yekini. 7

MAN OF THE MATCH: Emenike
FLOP OF THE MATCH: Yobo

Uche: Came in and created chances with his typical dribbles and runs. But untypically, he missed the chances. For creating chances (which were hardly forthcoming before he came on), I don't think his performance was below par 5

Omeruo: Did well when he replaced Ideye to fortify SE defence aftermath Ambrose red card. One good runs forward too 5

Onazi: Late sub. Not much was seen of him. 4

Sunday Oliseh: Fantastic analyst on Supersports. Good knowledge of the game, good English, calmn, analytical. Highly impressive.

Yobo, Musa, Ambrose, Nosa and Ogunde had a terrible game. Musa and Nosa need to work on their final balls, while Ogunde and Ambrose should stop playing dirty. Yobo was not confident at all. I think we'll manage through the group stage if we play Zambia and Ethiopia with the right attitude. Up the super eagles!!!

I'll give Uche a 4.5. He had at least 2 clear chances to bury the game which he fail to. Emenike would have scored at least one of those goals.

abeg help me ask Keshi, he's playing Ahmed Musa that does not know how to play ball. He is no good coach for all i care. Get a foreign coach, you see the eagles fly higher. This indegenous coach thing is not working

jarus, mikel deserves 8 or 9.
he gave a masterclass performance today. if the strikers had an extra bit of premier league quality, nigeria would have scored more. those long passes were priceless but the attackers wasted nearly all of them.

It depends on how you view it, but that is my own view of the game. Anyway, I hope they will improve and make us proud as the tournament progresses.

God punish premier league quality. The needed the skills of the La Liga to beat those Burkina defenders and score. The only player who came close to doing that actually plays in the La Liga and his name is Ike Uche.

which idiotic la liga?
did the ball drop from heaven or someone from the premier league blessed with a good range of passes delivered it(ball to feet). stephen keshi is a troglodyte. a premier league deep-lying midfielder needs a premier league striker to feed off those delivery. la liga is about tiki-taka. they romance the ball before knowing where the net is.

uche played like a zombie...
he had one good chance when he cut in but wanted the glory himself. a premier league striker would have passed the ball to a teammate the moment he got into the box. martins, odemwingie and moses should have led the line today......

A premier league striker couldn't have done what Ike uche did to those defenders. It just wasn't his day. On a good day he would have buried those balls after cutting those defender with a two edged sword.

Uche was wasteful today. Premier league, Laliga or whatever league do not matter. I think they played based on the coach instructions.

and what came out of his idiotic move of touching the ball more than 20 times? this is how we do it in the premier league....we play direct football and it wasn't a surprise our only goal came through that route!

He was wasteful quite alright but he got the chances that other strikers couldn't get. It's just that he misfired.

Just see the kind of idiotic goals that they score in the premiership. See how porous the defence line is. Why won't they score. We were not lucky to get that kind of space from the burkina defence. They're not father Christmas.

any player who goes on a mazy run trying to dribble everyone by himself is bereft of football brain. football has gone past that - only messi and ronaldo are allowed to do such - not misfits like uche. where does he think he is? owerri or langtang? i like how the other striker berated him for wasting that chance. just pass the ball and let someone more better placed put the ball into the net. football is 80% common sense and 20% skills!

that's a smart counterattack.....
that was the kind of ball mikel was delivering all day and there was no odemwingie or moses to latch on to them and finish aplomb! the game was crying for a premier league striker and not a la liga misfit. we don't have a xavi/iniesta look alike in the team so why play uche?

We only consider a player selfish if he misses the goal. If he had passed that ball and whoever he passed it to kicked it over the net, you guys would have been saying "why didn't he play it himself?". The truth is that he was well placed to take the shot. Unfortunately, he mis-kicked. That football for you.

You don't throw that kind of pass for a defence line that was not bulging. The Burninabes stood a better chance of using that tactics because they caught the Nigerian defense unawares on several occasions.

I think Seun should have scored that goal... But Mukina tried by defending that ball in the 2nd half... I will say pyguru was my man of d match

you don't understand the dynamics of football - if he had passed the ball to a better placed player then no one would blame him. that's simply a football brain as the defenders wouldn't have expected him to pass...it would have caught them by surprise!

their defence was rubbish and they couldn't cope with those long balls......the game plan was simple but keshi took the wrong tools to perform a simple task. you need a premier league striker to work with a premier league deep lying playmaker. this is how we do it in the premier league against a stubborn defence.....

Re: Player Rating: Nigeria Vs Burkina Faso by Nobody: 2:09am On Jan 22, 2013
The main issue with SE play today was that the attacking build-up was too SLOW most of the time. There were situations in which both Mikel and Nosa Igiebor could have released the ball much quicker, but they dithered. Also, the long ball tactic didn't work very well, except for our goal. In Friday's match, I want the Eagles to be a little quicker when attacking, because a slow build-ip against Zambia might backfire against us.

Still #teamSuperEagles.
Re: Player Rating: Nigeria Vs Burkina Faso by ballabriggs: 2:28am On Jan 22, 2013
Yeye, wetin concern me concern Super Eagles. As far as I am concerned the player of this tournament so far is that Ethiopian keeper wey collect red card.

For that singular drop kick wey e give that Zambian guy, in fact he deserves the African footballer of the year grin grin
