At first, It was about showcasing our rich culture to the world, but I've watched it become...in the last two years especially last year!
I can't even put some of the pics on my blog: www.feelfelly..com

It has never been about promoting our culture but about promoting the cultures of the carribean islands. Now, they're now promoting the culture of sodom and gomorra. The calabar carnival, the port-hacourt carnival and the Lagos carnival are a shame.

But I've witness some earlier that were not like these recent ones. There's been progressive improvement in nudity.

In which part of d world do we have people not wearing clothes? Isnt it africa?? Lemme refer 2 traditional dancers/ royal servants, what they wear on stage, isnt it similar 2 what we have in dis carnivals?
I will accept that abuse/civilization is setting in but carnivals is not promoting na.ked.ness.

Unclothedness was never anyones culture. Pls remind me, what is our culture? Did we use to wear clothes? Somebody pls remind me wen africans used to whr clothes dat covered the whole body before Western silk became popular.
My point is culture is dynamic, at least I knw our women once didnt av to cover their booobs. Wats our culture?

exactly, i think its high time NBC start sanctioning this carnival airing on our airwaves afterall, some music videos who dont even have as much has unclothedness being experienced in the carnival have been banned from the airwaves by NBC.

You guys are just here lying to yourselves that unclothedness is not in our culture. Maybe y'all need to go back in history. We're the ones copying the western world by putting on cloths.

When you say "our culture" Minus the Bini peeps from it. In our history only slaves were associated with unclothedness. In Bini we have different words for various types of clothes.

Nice carnival there in Calabar, I love the costumes.

Just as there has been progressive improvement towards nudity in the dressing of the general public. Look at the dresses ladies wear in public these days, and then you'd understand why those same ladies want to use the excuse of the carnival to let-go!

Exactly. When you think about the whole concept, personally I just steer clear of the whole cultural experience thing because there is a very thin line between so-called western influences and the more sordid parts of our local culture. The offence is in the eyes of the beholder.
