What does a christian living in america (even though iranian american) have to do with going all the way to iran on a mission he knows is illegal? Missionary work in iran is illegal.many of these evangelical pastors have been exposed of bribing the poor iranian youths especially with promise of US visa/citizenship upon converting to christianity.the iranian system of governance is built upon Islam.attempting to preach is viewed as a treasonable offense because it works against the regime or the system of things.this is viewed with high suspicion as part of america's war on iran for regime change.at a point in america being a communist is against the law and a criminal offense.likewise, even in nigeria you can't preach communism or advocate beliefs contrary to the system.you can't aim at regime change and think you'd be taken lightly.

People should know this incident is more political.it has nothing to do with Islam Vs Christianity or Muslims Vs Christians.indigenous iranian christians who have existed centuries in iran are given their place and due rights to survive as a community, without been offended in terms of existence.

Funjay:

You obviously didnt read the report well and u have not been following the story.

This guys is Iranian American. Born and bred in Iran but converted to Islam later in his life. Met an American citizen who was on a working visit to Iran, they fell in love and he married her. He became an American citizen by marriage but still visits his family regularly in Iran. Whenever he visits Iran, he does not hide his faith involving regularly in evangelism and charity works, it should be noted that the house fellowship/eveangelism he was involved in then was not a threat until receddntly.
He was arrested the last time he was in Iran and has been detained since and his wife threatened not to come to visit him in Iran or risk been arrested.

besides,he claimed to have been back in order to establish an orphanage, could be mere misunderstanding from the gathering of his Christian friends and business partners or some person is not happy about it and changes the story with of course evidence of the gatherings. GOD HELP HIM sad

His creator is watching over him and he will be in peace with God and not with man.If he went to jail for Christ, he is already celebrated in heaven. God is watching over him and his family.

That law in Iran has been there since forever. Why did he break the law? He flew all the way from America to Iran to break their well established law. Are there no more Americans that need to hear the "word"

People dip their hands in fire and cry fowl.. abeg undecided

God's law is supreme above iran's law. God ordered him preached to the whole world including iran that has dead religion. he has break any law he only obeyed God's word. he is being persecuted for Christ's sake.

Madam, breaking a law while the person is well aware of the law is have nothing to do with your freedom to believe or disbelieve.freedom to believe or disbelieve is a god given gift entrenched in the mind.faith is in the heart naturally.so if I as a muslim decide to start worshipping a stone, and call it my god, then that belief is in me.in a similar sense,if you're born christian,I have no right as muslim to persecute or oppress you based on your religious identity.islam says so: "let those who will believe and let those who will disbelieve".this is religion.

However prohibiting preaching or christian missionary bribery and enticements is a political decision.this isn't the first time americans have been caught in iran for an illegal act.last,it was the american hikers who entered iran illegally and said they are "tourists";while they were viewed as CIA spies.why can't america just leave iran alone? Is that hard to do?

Islam!

Yet our people are so blind that Islam is a forceful and violent religion.
Whenever Islam is in charge, non Moslems are nothing but slaves.
They want to enslave us in Nigeria.

Solution, let them have their own republic of the Jihardists

But I did not read that he was charged for being a Christian. He was charged for preaching- this guy knew the rules before breaking them. You do the crime, you do the time. Polygamy is illegal in America, that limits the religious freedom of some Muslims living there.

Oya, start comparing and contrasting.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Not everyone accept his or your mission as "God's order".in iran, iranian law based on islam is above your "divine order";just like in america they deem american law superior to any other law.I'm sure you will reject it if the terrorist boko haram group claim to be following God's order.your justification for a christian breaking the law in a sovereign state and committing an illegal act as "God's law" shows your intolerance.when you look for trouble don't complain when you're punished deservedly.

Tell me about it. Many people here come from places where mosques are called "Hausa Church". Their exposure and knowledge base about Islam is pitiable. That is what is evident here and elsewhere on Nairaland.

This is actually Bulls****t, in clear language!

Why should Islam be the only one in the world enjoying exclusivity on Gods earth? Islam is accepted everywhere in the world where religion is accepted but how many Islam states are there in the world. Should Christian stop preachig the true Gospel to all the people of the world which is the only Christian great commission becouse I slam stakes a Sharia Lam claim where ever they forcefully manage to dominate?

What does politics have to do with this? Is the USA not a Christian state? Are moslems not practising their religion in the moster USA? Why is difficult to apply what you give out to what you get? What in the world is wrong with this pic?

Really? America is afraid of Muslims... tell me the story.

The truth is that CNN understands that "Freedom of Expression" is not absolute and has its limitations. Some Nairalanders will be in jail by now with the kind of hate speech against Islam they post here everyday if Nairaland was owned by a United States/ United Kingdom based individual. It is a big disgrace that this platform has been allowed to reach such dismal levels.
