We lost that match through penalty shootsout yeah! But the truth is that we were robbed out by the Tunisian refree who refused to award a penalty against OLEMBE of Cameroun who commited handball foul in their 18 box and during penalty shootsout Ikpeba' s goal was real and was refused by the refree. Olise & others took the refree before the penal of CAF and that Tunisian refree was suspended. Pity though, today will be a different story. I hereby appologise to all 9ja citizens living in BF to stay indoor and avoid celebration openly to avoid beaten to death. African/French folks are barbaric when it comes to football.
Thanks and happy viewing to all 9jas.

hum! i remember vividly how I dreamt on the eve of the match how cameroon defeated us and i woke and thanked God so much that it was a dream not knowing it was going to be the real deal.

I remember how i knelt down praying during the penalty kicks, so sad my heart was so broken that i didn't eat food for 2 good days. it was sadness all that 2 days and after I eat, i advised myself never to find myself in such situation any more.

Somehow I have been able to pull it off, I only get sad now for few hours and I forget it completely.

Albeit I was under 10years old then, I can still remember vividly the pains I felt that faithful day having lost d cup to the indomitable lions...The memory is still as fresh as ever.
Like some previous posters said, d only way the memories of that painful loss can be completely erased from our hearts is for d SUPER EAGLES to do us proud today by lifting the trophy....

stagger:

Your account of this match is filled with errors.

Ike Shorunmu (this is the spelling) did not make a blunder. Patrick Mboma nutmegged him. Almost every goalkeeper in the world has been at one point or another.

Jay Jay's goal came 5 minutes into the second half. It was Chukwu Ndukwe who pulled our fitst goal back on the stroke of half-time from a sweet pass by Kanu.

The closest misses of the game were Ikpeba's header that grazed the post in the first half of extra time, as well as a shot from an acute angle by Tijani Babangida which Alioum Boukar had to dive backwards into the goal to bring out.

At least you should appreciate him for opening the thread for refreshing our memory and now you just burst in picking errors just look at yourself are you that perfect....you've forgotten that one finger is pointed to him while the rest are for you...learn to appreciate sir!

angryI stil burn and cry once I remember that penalty dat wasn't awarded by d referee bac in 2000 afcon final...clear cut goal but as ikpeba stupidily placed his hand on his head thinkin it was another heartbreak after his d loss of his wife, we eventually lost it..saw him in calabar recently during d qualifiers n wanted to remind him of his stupidity dat cost d whole nation sadness..but I let it slide angry angry

Hopefully, todays win will erased dat nightmare.

Crownvilla: @ all

Didn't the replay of the Ikpeba's penalty show that the ball actually crossed the line? My memory is not 100% but I'm almost certain that one of our disallowed penalties definitely crossed the line!!!

You are right sir, God bless you

I went to Church to pray so we can win and that was the last time I went to Fellowship in OAU. February 13 2000

CFCfan: Actually, the game was played at the National Stadium in Lagos, not the Teslim Balogun stadium.

Anyway, that match was heart-breaking; Ikpeba's penalty 'miss' still rankles me anytime I remember it.

dude...dats wat he said nao! Did he mention Teslim Balogun?

Actually ikpeba didnt miss,he just wasnt civil (for lack of a better word to use) enough to celebrate his goal and instead held his head. Now al he does is go about “gbagaunating“ on supersport, o ga o.

crazy man. Passionate nigerian fan. Guess you didn't bother going to church today to pray for nigeria to win like you did then so that today's match wont be the de javu of the 2000 final?
